I did race Brent "Pee Wee" Lee the other day in an open class at Eugene.

I raced South Florida from 1976 to 1980. My main track was BMX 84 (I think someone else called it Grand Prix) in Ft. Lauderdale. I also raced at Hyatt Cycle Park where they had a BMX track in the middle of the flat oval cycle track. I raced at the West Palm YMCA. I went to some other tracks that I can't remember, but not often. Also raced the Orange Bowl in 1978.
I remember:
Greg and Bryan Esser
Tim Judge
And I used to race Hal Orr.
There are many others but none that I remember after 30+ years.

I used to race Corky and Pee Wee all the time and honestly, it sucked. The always went 1-2 or 2-1. They were pretty good friends. I knew Bret Luce but I was a year older. We went to Jr High together and rode the same bus. He had a lot of potential, but I know he got involved in some bad stuff around age 14 or 15. I hope he finally got it together.

You were guaranteed to find Steve Shepard and Evan Lee (whom is a member of this list even) on the podium.
I vaguely remember early on in my career the likes of Derek Brown (SE DB-IV), "Chicken" George (I can't remember his last name but his parents owned a bike shop in Englewood) and a cat named Chuck Van Fleet.

I'm from St. Louis, MO. We had a bunch of guys from here with factory sponsors, a bunch of number 1s and top ten riders as well...
Tim Kikaraus- Vector / Freshour- top ten amateur for several years
Travis McGhee- Vector / Coastal- made the last terrible ten in BMXA, top ten on 20 and 24"
Ryk Roth- Free Agent- B Pro originally from Downey, CA
Derek Fink- Coastal- Top ten or so 17x, 18x
Dru Potts- Freshour- top 15 once or twice, maybe 16 or 17x
John Piant- DG / Huffy- I think everyone that thinks of St. Louis thinks of this guy. He did a lot.
Paul Gossrau- Jag / Raleigh (?) Nat'l #1 a couple of times against guys like Ellis, Williams, Johle, Leone, etc.
Mike Goeddy- GT- Nat'l #1
Steve Moore- GT- Nat'l #1
Jim Wallace- Torker- Nat'l #1 cruiser
John Baker- RRS- Nat'l #1
Kevin Conrad- Kuwahara- fast little guy. his head would shake "no" all the way around the track. crazy to watch.
Bob Hunt- Torker
Owen Dowdy (I forget who he rode for)
Marty Luker- Traker- I'm not sure if Luker ever got a number 1 but he was really fast. He was going up against Loncarevich and that class, back when Loncarevich was on Diamond Back. I guess that would have been 15 and 16x.
Matt Guinn- MCS
Margo Carroll (Panda?)
Jenny Zeuner (lived here in the late 80's, now in Colorado)

in the early 80's @ Middletown NY there was this kid Steve Prokosch who I think got a nat 7 plate or something in 9x and then got picked up by cyclecraft. I saw him ride nationals for a year (1985?) then dissappear. His dad did a lot for that track, dont know what happened to them. Older brother matt was fast too.
From same track: Earl "the Rocket" Smith, cant remember who he ended up riding for but he would kill everyone and wound up Pro. I wanna say he rode for CW before disappearing.
Dennis Neubauer got really fast in the late 80's and when I quit he was B pro, and is on here somewhere.
Then after middletown closed I didn't really have a "home track", closest was Jockey Hill about 2hr away. So we frequented Jockey Hill, Shoreham, Tri city, Bingampton. I raced cruisers alot against Eric Brownell and Justin Loffredo. Those guys killed me. Justin went on to big things in bmx.

funny thing about Shelby, the dude rarely practiced, and on the rare occasions he would race local events he would just roll up, whip everyone's butts and leave. I guess it really wasn't that funny for the rest of us that had to race him.
