Ok, i "scored" this frame & fork set for $36 recently. And, you guessed it, i haven't got a clue what it is let alone what year it is. For now these are the only photos (provided by the seller) so until i have the frame in my hand these will have to do i'm afraid.

It seems the main point of focus will be on the reinforced rear drop outs and the "CrMo" stamped on to the top tube. As for the oval forks, no idea about them either.

Anyone?

Any help or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,

-Timo

smells like a Redline to me (probably wrong)

Akisu? Sekai?

Looks like a Predator to me, but the dropouts scream Kuwahara

My guess is it's a MT Racing Frame. Here's a Silver Fox - similar dropouts.

Looks like MT wins it.

Or an MT made frame, MT is a Taiwan Mfg. - one of the first to build frames for other brands - I believe they are still building private label bikes.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Hmm.. but the drop outs still seem way different to me.
Didn't anyone notice the L-shaped reinforcements/bends on top and bottom of the rear drop outs? I can't see such on the MT drop outs. The serial# is other way around and the curve on the front part of the drop outs doesn't match. All i see is the similiar three holes and even they are different.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was an euro frame since this was found from germany if that helps.

Ok, time for an update on this. I got the frame & forks today so now i am finally able to post more specific photos, although quick ones to help ID what this frame & fork might be. Here we go..

The frame & fork overall.

Headtube & gusset, notice the CrMo stamping on the top tube.

Inside view of the rear drop outs with those reinforcements.

Outer side of the rear drop outs.

The oval tubing, partially capped fork and the somewhat unusual drop outs.

I found this fascinating, the fork tube is knurled under the bearing race.

Ideas/suggestions?

Thanks for your patience again,

-Timo

Didn't Kuwahara have 3 holes in the drop out too? But the rest does not look like a Kuwie.

It's still an MT - take a look at the gusset:

The forks have lawyer tabs - so it's early late '80's early '90's, the fork race is knurled because the tolerances on the bikes is crap and they wanted to make sure it didn't slide around.

It's a turd, but it's your turd. Break out the steel wool and polish it.

What does MT stand for?

"MT" stands ofcourse like you said, for "My Turd" in case you didn't know. laugh.gif And indeed, that's what it is. Well, turd or not, i am all excited about the frame and looking forward creating something cool out of it because i see lots of potential. Steel wool.. nah, i was thinking more like oxalic acid.

Btw, didn't such old style gussets more less disappeared by early-late 80's anyway? Early 90's.. i am very skeptical about that but my guess might be as good as yours.

Thanks.

Hard to say, Taiwan bikes were always a few years behind. They would just keep building with the same jigs. To give you an idea, they were the one's building Felt's bikes a few years ago - you know those good looking, but utlimately junky bikes that ended up all over Ebay.

That is a 1984 mt "the fox model ta"

was sold as a complete bike that retailed for $165.00

frame should have a decal on downtube saying "the fox"

fork should have a decal on it saying "aerodyna"

i dont have a scanner but im looking at it in a bmz action ad as i type this

november 1984 page 53

hope that helps

Thanks for the response guys.
But what is up with the rear/fork drop outs on mine? They don't seem to match with ANY MT Foxes i see at bmxmuseum? Here's an example, check out the drop outs:

Also, the support tube at chainstays right behind the bb doesn't match either. Mine doesn't have one.

It'a all very very similiar but it doesn't seem to be an exact match (?)
