Its been about 5 years since I got back into bikes, and built my first bike, to go ride with my kids. I stopped riding my Profile Champ Pro in 86, after I was hit by a woman on it. I'm no racer, just a guy who loved his bikes as a kid..,.,ok.,.,.,., well a younger kid.

I started off with a Mongoose frame, that the University Police threw way from their impound lot. Bought some Skyway's, new Redline cranks ( hey, I didn't know any better), cleaned it up, and became my rider.

That bike was cool, first time riding since 86, and I could hang with kids, and keep them safe. My oldest son was getting older, and a little bigger, and didn't know about inch bikes, so I went on a hunt. Figured he can have the one I was riding, and I was going to find a Profile Champ, and build her up. Found the frame and fork set on ebay, and was the winning bidder at $420.00 shipped. Cool, they were my fav company back in the day, and I couldn't believe I found one. Clean chrome, clean drop outs, i was happy. Took a few to gather parts, and built this

And boy did I get some reaction on the redline cranks, the profile gas pedals, the cw bars, the laybackseat post, and the newschool xl stem. I had no idea about the era correct parts that should have been on there. So I took the bait, changed things up, and came out with this

Inbetween all this, I was tired of the kid riding on a cheap kmart frame, so I picked up a SE Mauler, got some SE forks, DK stem, and SE bars, transfered the usable parts off the Moongoose, and now he rides this

Along with that, this bike, for what ever reason, got my attention. Its sat in the for sale section for weeks. I dug it out of the archives, and contacted the seller, and bought. This bike is getting a complete restore. My young son will be riding this.

Man was I hooked on restoring/building bikes. Was looking around, and came across this next bike. I was like wow, an over sized PK Ripper. Cool, so I picked it.

Once I got, I stripped it down, and started the change to this. (NOTE, this Floval now rides on 24 graphites)

During this time, I was acquiring more bikes, and parts. I loved how my first two builds came out, but still wanted to be able to go out, and get nutty on a bike, without braking something on those 2 builds. They aren't carpet queens, I ride them, but needed something to kill on. FOund this Floval, and gobbled it up

Yes, lol, that 24" is sporting CW Pro bars. But let me tell ya, for my 6'3 size, it rides soooooooo smooth.
So I rode it like that until the new 24" Graphites were released, and took the H spokes off the other Floval, and put them on this one, along with the alum redline bars, since the other Floval now has black redline bars.

Now during all this time, I acquired a few more Profile frame sets, and more Profile cranks, and stems, and many other parts. This next bike took 3 years to build. I had already read enough, and seen enough by this time, that I remembered all the part's I ran, and all the parts I snapped, crackled, and/ or popped. So I started with this

and ended with this. 3 years, wow, what a long time to take, just to build 1 bike. But it had to be right

During this time, as I said, Ive been buying parts, parts, parts, and frame sets, and more parts. The list is too long, but you see them on my builds so far, and you will see more on my future projects. This being one of them. Four over 4 1/2 years of searching, and searching, and FINALLY getting some Profile bars this build is about to be released. I have to get the wheels respoked, and find 1 red/white label snakebelly tire, and she will be done. She is known as the "Monty" build

So while I'm waiting to get those things done, I was board one Sat morning. No more Olympics, the kids were out with the wife, and I was tired of tripping over my other Profile frames. I had all the pieces, so why not. The wheels were a complete restoration project. They had bad brake scares on the sides, the spokes were grease stained, small bits of rust. Took some sandpaper, and my hands, and went to town. Sanded each spoke, and sanded the sides. Then took some mothers, polished the spokes x2 on the front, (have to do the rears still), and polished the sides. Took some mothers wax, and polished up the hubs, and blam

So what's coming up in the future. I have a 07 Retro Quad to build. Just waiting for the re issue Profile cranks, and a 1 1/8 stem, then I can build her. (sorry, no pics) I have a Shelby James frame to build, along with 3 more 20" Champ Pro's. (Profile bars in photo are on "Monty")

I know, I'm a Profile whore, and sorry, but I wont be selling anything. I plan on using a couple of builds as trade bait for a 24", and a Magnatanium mini. Also check out my Profile Info thread, for as much 81-86 Profile information ya can stand.

Man, what a nice collection. When I see other people building multiple bikes it encourages me. You've busy in the last five years.
Kurt.
Great story. Awesome collection. Well done!

THANKS for all of the compliments guys. Here I thought, "I'm going to build "A" bike, 5 years later, I have a sickness.

Building bikes is an expensive, but yet are thilling theropy sessions for me. I love being taken back, as if it were 1983 all over again, out in the garage, wrenchin of a bike. The best part, is I get to do it with my kids nows. Back then, I would help a couple of "special needs" kids on my street, with their bike problems. What a feeling to see a kid come over with a frown, but leave with an ear to ear grin. Nothin better.

I'm not a show off type of guy, that's why you dont see post with my bikes in them. I build them, post a thread of my newest build, and that's it. But I was relecting, and was proud of what I have accomplished so far. I also like how this thread has been a motivator for others.

Hoarder, or whore.,..,.,Ive stepped back, too let others pick up Profile items. Yes, I was a bad man, and gobbled up everything Profile I could. I'm sure I'm to blame for being the one on ebay who snaked a Profile product you were bidding on.Hubs, stems, cranks, frame sets, decals. I started feeling bad, and chose to step back, and let others have a shot at items from this fine company.Money wasent an issue, and I probably helped keep prices up on certain items.T Plus I have enough items to do what I want to do with my other builds. The market is open, for now.,.,.LOL.

I'm glad this thread opens more eye on this fine company, and hope it produces more builds, because in my opinion, there arent enough Profile builds.

Thats better than going to disney world for summer vacation. My want list includes a Profile.

Awesome builds! I enjoyed reading thru your thread. Just don't go completely full circle and get hit by a woman while riding your Profile.
