Well its obvious they had some tension in their marriage regarding his collecting. Thats the rub with all of this stuff. Too many people live beyond their means and purchase bikes or items that they shouldnt be.
I have alot of opinions about this but wont go in to deep to avoid offending anyone. However, I will say this...............
I would never, in one million years put any bike, bike part, or any other material object above my wife, my son or the rest of my family.

A wife who throws down such ultimatums isn't a good indicator of a happy marriage anyhow.
However, moderation in everything...it pays. I have a few bikes, I have my drums, my guitar...and a wife who's cool with it. Everyone wins.
And the "shoe defense" ALWAYS has some merit, LOL... And just how many purses/handbags do the girls have, huh?

I can envision how it all went down:
The husband was sitting at the computer staring at an eBay buy it now for a certain dated Dia Compe brake cable housing while his wife was mouthing off. She screamed out "Bikes or me is how it will be!" then the husband clicked the buy it now and looked at his wife and said "C-ya babe!"

First of all I surely wouldn't post my personal shiot on here. If your looking to get rid of 100 bikes to keep her, I'd say your out of luck. So is 100 bikes the unlucky straw? Why not at 50 or 75 bikes?.

Her assumption that being into bikes is an alternative to "showing love to another human being" is the flaw.
I've been happily married for nearly 19 years, four kids - and of course I would toss the bikes if it came down to losing them. The beauty is that, so long as you collect it in moderation and don't neglect your relationship, you can have both.
I agree people need to check their priorities - because you can lose perspective. I feel sorry for her to be honest. I don't know who was to blame, but she clearly has had a very bad experience.

2006 Suzuki 1000. This bike is perfect! It has 1000 miles and has had its 500 mile dealer service. (Expensive) It's been adult ridden, all wheels have always been on the ground. I use it as a cruiser/commuter. I'm selling it because it was purchased without proper consent of a loving wife. Apparently "Do whatever the Hell you want" doesn't mean what I thought. Yeah, bmxmom is cool. My wife doesn't understand much about the bikes. I get "what are you going to do with kids bikes"? Duh, hang em from the ceiling in the garage and look at them. I do get them down now and then and air up the tires and a ride them up the street and back, but for the most part they are on the ceiling.
She puts up with it as long as I don't over do it. When there is really something that costs, I do run it by her and present the case and reason for 'really needing it". I then get, "which one are you getting rid of then?" I tell her which part or whatever, then I get to buy and then forget to sell (hehe).
But whenever she really starts in about it, I casually take her up to the craft room and show her all of HER scrapbooking stuff. Pretty much nips it in the bud right there. No comparison.
Maybe the guy just couldn't bring himself to tell her she was a b_ _ _ _ and he was leaving her, so he just threw himself into his hobby and ignored her to the point where she had enough and it was her idea to leave. He wins both ways...more bike stuff and free from her.

Man I just got back into all this BMX stuff around January, since then I have spent some money on BMX parts/bikes and made some money off of some BMX stuff,, But the Day I brought Home 3 Big boxes of NOS from an Old bike shop, and it took up too much room in our already tiny place, was the day The S#$T hit the fan, GOT SOME NOS STUFF FOR SALE,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ANYBODY interested,
Really what is it in the makeup of most Female brains, They Just hate it if we pay more attention to something other than them,
I was sitting on my OLD Hutch the other day just after I mounted my Old Powerlite bars onto it, and she turns to me and says WHAT THE HELL, when was the last time you spent that much time with me, You Love that Bike more than me, WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I told her well I have had this Bike Since 1982, And not once has it ever Nagged Me, Bitched at me, or made me sleep on the couch,
Guess where I slept that night

My wife is very understanding about it as long as all the bills are paid, and the family has everything we need. I try not to go high dollar but look for the deals. I haven't really built anything old for awhile but have several projects that are waiting for the deal. Most of my spending has been on my race bikes and I just finished a new build and she's way cool with it since it was for one of the boys. The only time she got a little PO'ed was when she repainted the bedroom and I brought the Tri-Power in and leaned it against the wall and commented how nice the wall matched the blue in the stickers. It did find a home in the corner of the bedroom for about 2 months then had to move out when a chair was found.

That's exactly where I'm at right now. Not actively buying/building but I will snatch up a score in a heartbeat. When I ebay something I'm not gonna use and show my wife what I got for it as opposed to what I paid, the planets align and the universe is in perfect harmony.
I have what I need in the bike department: An old school build, a new school rider, a MTB and a some parts I've had laying around a while.
