Not as much soul to that one and no Redline Factory flash, something Stu was "and is" the King of!...the whole bag to that was they were Porsches..VERY EXPENSIVE IF YOU MISSED.

Yeah I remember the first photo. If they wanted to even reference it they should have snazzed it up.
This reminds me more of the one where RL jumped over his truck.

Ya got to hand it to him that was huge, he could have almost jumped 3 Mack's at that height. Still Im with you guys, a more retro, or even current "Race" look would have been cooler, but then Stu did it right the first time, Its hard to top that much radness, maybe they wanted to add their own kind of new school vibe or something.. . Amazing jump regardless. How many full suspension DH guys would line up for that same jump. That had to hurt.

Cool and stuff, but what's with the editing? I want to see the entire jump in one shot, not fragmented and truncated.
Kids these days...

That was pretty cool. Is Toyota a Redline sponsor or something? If not they should have tried for some Porsches.
I think STU or Oz posted on here about that jump and Stu left some tire tracks on one of the Porsches during shooting.

Very cool tribute to STU! That was some huge air!

This is way radder in my opinion. Mike "hucker"Clark is twice the jumper than Stu was in his prime (that is pretty much fact). It is pretty cool that they recreated the picture and filmed it though.

Like it or hate it if your not feelin' the love that was put into it then best you check your pulse! I'm as old scool as they come (and almost 50 to boot!) and I'm digin' it! I want a copy of that then & now poster to put up in the lab!

Times have definitely changed...jumpers are much crazier these days but you can't discredit what Stu was doing for his time...he is known for racing mostly, but he was a hell of a jumper back in the day, he even rode skatepark pools and that stuff. Stu was always getting huge air for the time! That pic was/is a classic for sure.

It was 25 years ago, he should be 10 times better. When you compare the bikes they were on the original is way radder. I can just about guarantee that if an early 80s Proline landed that hard with a 200lb rider it would have collapsed.
Overall riders are way better today with 35 years of progression, that guy might be the greatest jumper ever but that video was nothing more than some guy hucking himself on a 40lb bike.

Since I replied to this a bit ago I have been thinking about this. It is just progression and progression is infinate. What Stu jumped back then was bad [please review the site FAQs]. Clarks jump was even more bad [please review the site FAQs]. In 20 years some kid may come out and do it blind folded or some rediculous thing. It is a fact that this generation of BMXers have way more great places that they can ride at. There are thousands of kids/ people from ages 12-40 that are dialed riders in all aspects of the sport.
I still think that Stu's was rad but Hucker's is even more. Im talking about the comparision of the 2 pictures.

You guys read the comments below? I can't believe some think it's "gay" (WTF?) to NOT have a landing ramp.
Very cool shots.

Stu jumped Porsches and todays generation jumping Toyotas. Haven`t they learned anything from the older rider. lol. It looks easy but it`s not. It`s cool that he didn`t use a landing ramp.

That is a cool tribute to Stu but there is nothing like the original. Would have been great to see it done in full redline gear, open face helmet, goggles and a jofa. Stu rules and the picture of him in mid flight over the porsches is timeless.

man its all the same...
All rad!
Just diffrent times...
Diffrent equipment..
Diffrent Circumstances....
No one is better than the other.....Just times change and progression shows....The new guy is always gonna want to do better than the old guy who inspired the new guy in the first place..

Reading the comments, I am kinda sad that the kids that have posted do not see the significance of this jump. Cool jump by today's standards, monumental jump to us BITD! I wonder if they even know who Stu is (or any other of the early legends)?

That was cool. It was cool when Stu did it and Pratt's was cool too. I hate guys that can jump and make it looks so easy
I also think the photo of Stu was way better than the video. The capture of a slit second of a moment is far more powerful than seeing the entire vidoe.
How many of you would love to have that as your backyard?

This may come off like I am defending my friend, and that is ok, because I am. Stu is far too modest to comment.
Stu and I hung out, raced, and just rode around together from 75 to 79 and then some. He may not have been the most 'stylish' jumper on the planet but he could get it done. This picture was taken around 1975 at Western Sports Arama (WSA) off what we called the 'Big' jump. It probably had a jump face between 3 and 4 feet high. WOOHOO.

Oh yea, flat landing... He is riding a Redline squareback with MotoMags.

He may not have been the most stylish racer, but he could get it done. I could tell race stories that go on and on, but not now. Some other time, perhaps. His accomplishments speak for themselves...

The Oz picture of Stu is a time capsule. A great moment in time. It reminds some of us of a great time in our life. It is what it is.
The Fuzzy Hall picture is another great picture. An admitted tribute to Stu. It is what it is.

Very cool - giving Stu his props..
Imagine, how far BMX has come since the original shot - especially on the 'freestyle' side, and how that jump still made the new schooler work..
It speaks volumes on how special Stu really was / is as a rider / racer / jumper
all of the above..

Too one dimensional now for me but glad it's still happening and people enjoy it.
Gone are the days when Bmx'ers could race, then could turn around and win a jumping contest same day, and still know how to tear his bike down, regrease/tune and rebuild it for the next gig...and tell you who made every part on his bike, how long his cranks are and what sprocket ratio he's running.
Now You buy your Bmx bike complete at bike shops, they tell you it's light, you buy it, nuff said. (Yeah Taiwan).
Now the jumpers just jump...don't race.
The racers just race....don't jump. You spend all your time doing 1 thing you should be good at it.
