I've been collecting serial numbers for about six months to see if they can tell me anything about the bikes. I have 40+ and I've learned a bit, but there are so many re-stickered bikes and so many with long-forgotten histories that many holes in the story remain.
Basically, I've determined that Torker used a letter at the end of the SN to distinguish the model. I also think I may have a vague time line for the product line, or at least I can distinguish when major changes in the modle line up occurred—maybe.
I have SNs from Big Bikes, L.P.s, E.K.s, 26" cruisers, 24" cruisers, 280s, 340s, Pro XLs. I don't have any SNs from MXs, minis or, maybe, the "long" frames.
I'm compiling this info for a fairly comprehensive article on the history of Torker I am writing.
If you have any Torkers, I'd love to add your SNs to my list. Best to PM me with the info. Or post here if you want.
When you send me your SN, this is what I need to make it really useful:
Full SN:
SN location (BB or drop out):
Original Color:
Top tube length (center-to-center):
Down tube OD (20" only; 1" or 7/8" or 1 1/4")
Fork leg OD (1" or 7/8")
Head tube style (machined or not):
BB type (Euro, American or machined American):
Gusset type (Fish scale with circular hole, fish scale with oval hole, Redline/Haro type, none):
Brake bridge type (flat or round):
Description of stickers of original (original style, 280/Pro style--particular interest in headbadge and seat tube stickers):
Thanks for your help.
