If I remember correctly, 20X1.5 rims started coming out around 84. I think DB was one of the first bikes to have em. Does anyone have an idea when ARAYA started making the 7X in 24" x 1.5"?

I have a set but am not sure which build to use them on. I'm trying to be period correct.
Thanks.

I didn't know they made a 7X 1.5 24?

I am assuming they are 7x since they look just like the 20" versions I have. Anybody else??? Maybe neither of them are 7x but have the same 7x styling. If that is the case, I have totally been duped scratch_one-s_head.gif

I will try to post up some pics when I get a chance.

The 1.5 7X was called 7XN (narrow). I still have a pair that I purchased new in '84. I think they went to market in '84, maybe late '83. Unfortunately, I can't comfirm that information. The diamondback 1.5 (Turbolite) rim was different.

I'm going to say the 7XN's came out in '83. I hope that helps.

I don't know about the 24s for sure, but the 7XN came out in late 83/early 84 as a response to Keith Bontrager's "narrow" modified Mavic MA-2 mountain bike narrow rim. It would seem logical that the 24" 7XN would have the similar dates

Don't know about 24", but 20" would have been late '83 when DB introduced the Turbolite. Yes - DB were the first to bring out a 1.5".

This quote by Jeff Haney (from Sandy Finkelman) explains: "Another interesting things was i never knew that the DB Turbo lite was the first BMX bike in history to ever use a 1.5 tire. Until then the tire never existed and DB had Mitsuboshi develop the tire just for the Turbo Lite."

I had a set of these BITD. I was getting too big for the 1 3/8 tires and wasn't ready for the 1.75's. My memory maybe be fuzzy but the Turbo Lite 1.5's were 28 spoke correct?

I bought my first set of 20" 7XNs in March of 84 (I have them on the Profile in my avatar). I've been running 1.5s on my 24 since 87, (still do today) but I've never seen or even heard of 24" 7XN before. I ran Weinmanns for a few years until the Sun Mistrals came out in 24X1.5. I've been running Sun Chinnooks since 93. Got any pics?

Early DB Turbo Bikes came with the 20x1.5 Chrome Plated Araya 7x (some people refer to them as 7xn) laced up to low flange track style hubs with Campy style floating washers. This was before the Turbo Lite hoops in 1.5. I still have a set downstairs that was a take off set from a DB Turbo from Bike Gallery.

DB turbo-lite 20x1.5 rims came in 36 hole as well.
