A few weeks ago, when the Old School event as in Portland, I invited an old riding buddy to the event. He came with his 9 month old. When we started talking about the Haro Lightning Bolt party, he said "I think I might still have my plate..." The following images are from treasures he found in his attic. They were mostly pictures and decals.

1977 Blue Lake Park Track

1977 King Dome Race Decal

1978 Beaverton Fun Run (Roger Berg's Track aka Uni BMX)

Vince Foster followed by the orignal groovy guy - Tom Rennie! Vince was the guy who was alwys messign with his bike. Not to be faster, but because he was creative. Cook bros Hubs laced radially, DG decal cut creatively on the Head tube, DG on the crown. Always cool little things.

Mike's paperwork when we joined PRO and raced in the LA Coliseum Aug 12, 1978. Covered in the first issue of "Inside BMX Plus". Digging the contingencies.

And the most amazing thing... in 1978 we ordered four hand made Bob Haro Plates due to the BMXA Hot product blurb.

We ordered 87, 124, 23 and 111 with "Bike Gallery".

124 (Vince Foster) stopped racing by 1979 and the plate is long gone.

87 (Ben Joy) plate is long gone and I have no idea what happened to it.

23 (Jay Graves) kept his but went to throw it and his Cal Pro plate (hand made for DG) out around 1990. Ken Pliska grabbed them, then returned them and they were sold to Tim Cook. At the same time, Jay went to toss out BMXA's in binders. Ken saved them and they long ago went to a Georgia Collector.

111 just surfaced - in NOS never mounted condition. 30 years new.

Shannon - 20 x 1 3/8" hoops radially laced to Phil Wood. I didn't realized it at the time, but Bob and Jay always had us changing it up... likely as it sold more product.

I haven't posted the decals as they are all going to eBay. I am hoping to land the plate somewhere special.

On the PRO paperwork, I swear I never saw this pre the race or that we were able to practice. Nice track layout. I remember almost missing the first corner as the track was set up hectic and at half time (Rams/Chargers). The jumps were also very abrupt.

I was with PK, Turnell and Tinker. It was overall time and our moto had a few in the top positons overall (we finished very closely together). I gather others got a bit lost as well. Regardless of how close I was, I lost....

Mike, who had these items, is #24 in the front row on the right. I'm over JU's (35x) shoulder with the DG helmet. Seriuosly, I was a kid 1 week into my 16th years old and I get PK, Turnell and Tinker in my moto? Crud.

Check out row one - 3 of the bikes in row one have been show at Rockford. JMC, SE and DG. All three plates still exist. Back row are Stu, Byronious, Kos and Bob Hadley. Obviously stuck with me all these years. It was nice Mike found these items to relive the memories.

Great pictures Ben. That first shot of that start gate looks like something from the motorcycle Grand Prix at Saddleback. Unreal!!!

Hey Ben, did you get to race that Coliseum race? I raced my sidehack there. There was a 4 foot tall wood jump in the middle of the grass field. They told us hack racers that we had to go around the big jump. As we aproached the ramp there was a guy standing in front of it waving us off. He did manage to just get out of the way before I went off it. laugh.gif

Cool pictures Ben. Thanks for sharing.

i think the first Patterson's were made by Champion and were similar frames. i believe it would have been called a Sentry.
did you also notice the bolt on brake bridge?

Wow Ben DG`s were everywhere in Oregon! Looks like everyone raced one. Isn`t the DG #2072x in the Coliseum race Bottemas bike? Doesn`t look like him riding it? Very cool pictures.
BenOr
It is Harry Leary, Jeff, and Jeff U, along with an unknown and Mike Harry. The frame Jeff is on was sold a few years ago and it had Yellow tape on the gusset.
