Most likely are hand painted originally, but could be scanned and digitized easily. There are a few similar fonts out there that I have seen, but not exact

I agree, looks like hand painted, or else old type dry transfer lettering. Here's a good place when you're trying to find a font name:

Why bother with a font, scan it, vectorize it in Illustrator or Flash - and you'll have the exact logo in a scale-able file.

i would think a big graphics company would know what to do, but they want to charge me an hour labor to out line it.

Most likely the letter styles were stock Letraset rub on letters... Most all companies/graphics shops used them BITD.

I know I did when I designed some of my earlier Crit Plate stuff.

Try this...

The Anderson font style is Brush Script that as been stretched a bit with the "A" being modified to make it an more of a custom look. And the AVALANCHE is the font Marker Felt.

Both were stock Letraset rub on fonts and they look rough because they were hand screen printed... Probably by Bob Dillie of Dillie Screen Printing in Orange CA (I'll have to check on the last location of his shop) who did most of the industry decals in the 80's.

You should try to get a hold of Ronnie Anderson who run s a track in Cali... He might be able to ask his brother more about his signature decals.
