Hey man. Slow, fast. It's all just bike riding. We all do it because we love it and it's fun. Just the fact that you are even going to get back on a gate after all you been through shows some serious heart!
Dexter
Depends on how many people we get there this weekend to determin what class Ill Ride, I should have my cruiser ready tonite, and my 20" is ready to rock so Ill be in either 41-45 cruiser or inter on 20...and who knows, I may be some moto fill for the 35+ flats race...lol

Well depending on moto count and classification we might be on the gate together in 28 and over inter. smile.gif

Don't worry, half my body is still iffy (knee, hand, back) so me and you might be taking a leisurely cruise around the track at the back of the pack.
Dexter
Looks like fate has made my mind up for me, my daughters new cruiser frame wont make it till monday now so I put her on my Alliant for the weekend, (and at the moment I still refuse to use those silly clippy pedal things she insists on running! LOL) so if I am on board anything it will be a 20"
Dexter
Allright guys, and gals, another update.. I just got home from my 10th knee surgery, just a scope job this time and all seems to have gone very well, got alot of floating bone chips and arthritic buildup cleaned up and hopefully soon I will be back up on my feet checking out the improvements..I am just bummed I wont be able to make it to the track over the weekend...lol.. have a great weekend all, and good luck to all of my friends, neighbors and relatives who are racing in Oldsmar this weekend!
Dexter
I am starting to get around again alot better, its nice to be able to bend this knee without all the sound effects that used to go along with it.. Have to go back to Chicago in the next week or two to get fitted for a custom knee brace and am back to physical therapy on monday.. never thought I would miss the torture of PT but I am more than ready to get back at it.. spring is coming, and I want to be ready to ride!
CoreyRoss1
Man Dex those are some pretty intense pictures. I seems almost like a miracle that you still have that leg attached! Glad to see that your still mobile and even more glad to see you get on a bike. Hope everything keeps improving so that you'll be able to race weekly. smile.gif

*Off Topic*

Just wanted to say thanks for all the work you've done on my bike. Your the most reliable person I know when it comes to finding a solution on fixing a bike. Thanks for all that you've done for me.

Corey

Go get em man! PT sucks!
Dexter
Looks like I am puttin off the custom knee brace for another week or two, Desoto calls and My daughter wants to race, PT is going great, back on the stationary bike and pedaling like a machine again... its going to be a long road, but it really looks like I will be back on the gate...just gonna take time...and alot more work, but what the heck, nothin worth havin is easy!
mannequinforce
Good to hear! Keep pedaling that stationary bike. It works you good if you use it right. And make sure you are hitting the gym to work your upper body! Don't want to neglect that! Keep it up and good luck!
Dexter
I have been doing a ton of upper body work, I am probably in better shape than I have been since I was 21 (except for the leg that is) its probably going to be another 2 years before I am back on the gate full tilt, but when I am back I will be a beast!
mannequinforce
That's sweeeeeeet to hear! Sounds like none of the guys in your class will stand a chance!
Dexter
Got to take my bike out on the track the other night, the knee is feeling alot better, still have to take it easy on it only 6 weeks out from having it cut on again but it does feel like this last surgery really did some good, now on monday I am off to get fitted for a custom brace finally.. we will see how that works out...have a great Easter all!!
mannequinforce
Please update this thread more! I want to see how everything is going! Tell us about the new knee brace! That should help a lot!
Dexter
Just got back from Chicago, the nice folks at Ballert orthapedics cast my leg and are sending that cast off to CTI so they can build me up one sweet carbon fiber custom knee brace.. should have it in about 3 weeks or so... Im gonna be the bionic man before too long! LOL
mannequinforce
Ha. That's awesome CF is sweet stuff!
Dexter
My Carbon CTI knee brace is in.. I go pick it up on monday.. hopefully this baby does the trick!
Dexter
Got my CTI today, the thing fits perfectly and really, Really helps with my stability, I have not yet had a brace that let me move as smoothly as this one, cant wait to get out and pedal some with it.. gotta wait a bit the knee cap piece is still on the way, have to have the protection, this leg is up over 350,000$ dont want to jack it up again now! lol

Next time I see you I'm chopping off your leg and listing it on Craigslist!!!

jk... good to hear you're on your way to racing again Dex.
Dexter
I got out on the track last weekend, actually made my main in the RFL.. I love to see the looks on the faces of the dads who say they are too out of shape to ride when I hang my cane on the fence in staging and get on the gate...lol
mannequinforce
Badass!
Brandon002
That's awesome to hear man. Congrats on having the will to push through all that and the guts to actually race again. Huge props to you Dex.
okibono
very cool...
cane in staging... awesome.
Dexter
Hi all, just a quick note to let ya know Im still kickin, the knee is still junk but I am still workin as hard as ever, no plans on giving up ruling the 46-50 cruiser class in a few years just yet..I have started school, I am getting my degree in physical therapy, just started school today, I figure if I want to get back into 100% shape I ought to know how to do it myself.. Ill keep you all posted.. and just an update, my custom CTI knee brace is still the freaking BOMB!
Dexter
I will be lining up my machine for the old guns shootout in February at Steel Wheels indoor, time to see if I can put some power through this reconstructed leg of mine.

How are you doing man? What's the status?

I am doin allright, the knee is still nowhere near 100%, and it is probably looking like the only way to get it close will be a knee replacement, pushed it a little hard over the summer trying to work the track and such so I went backwards a little there, but I have been keeping up with my workouts (if ya dont count the last 2 weeks, holidays were crazy) and I am staying strong and riding when I can.. the plan is still to come out hot in 3 years in the 46-50 cruiser class, right after my man Tucker does a sweet biomechanical tat (think terminator leg ripping out of the skin) on the part of that leg thats still unscarred for the most part..but until then you will see me at the nationals with my daughter or at the local track helpin out.. look for the tall guy with the carbon fiber cane and the Dragon wheels shirt most of the time..lol.. really wish I could bust out at our national here in september, but its not looking like it will happen at this point. Have a great New Year all!
mannequinforce
I am really sorry man! I hope that 2011 treats you better!
okibono
Sorry to hear that man... KeeP working hard. It will come around.
Dexter
its all good, I am still on two feet and still workin hard, as long as I am on the right side of the grass I can keep moving forward.
Dexter
I got on the track today for our race for life.. for the first time in the last 5 years I actually felt like I belonged on the gate.. I still have the snap of a 3 toed sloth(still lead with my left leg which is still pretty much toast) but the rest of the track felt pretty good.. made my main and in the 2nd round made a great move reminiscent of the old me before my accident... had people callin me the bionic man after that.. lol.. I may be movin damn slow tomorrow.. but for tonite.. I feel pretty good.
Brandon002
That's awesome Dexter, congrats. I'm hoping that I'll be following you soon as far as getting back on the gate. I'm dying not being able to race at all.
mannequinforce
Saweeeeeeeeet!
Dexter
Think I may just have to race the Hoosier National...bout time I got back out there.... Just renewed my cruiser membership for the first time in about 7 years... I may not be out front, but at least Ill be out there!
Dexter
Just got home from the ABA scholarship race at IG/Steel wheels and pulled a 3rd.. felt great to be on the track at speed again!!
burdettebmx
Dex had the sun gods of BMX shining on him today. Made it to the main then watched a guy flip the gate and Bionic Dex picked up 3rd place at the IG BMX Indiana State Championship Finals.
okibono
Awesome Dex!
Dexter
Its official... My new ABA card just came in the mail... Im somebody again!! LOL.. look for #654 at the Hoosier National... you may have to look towards the back of the pack, but this gimpy old dude will be on the track!!
Dexter
I may not have lit the world on fire today but, I was back on the gate for a national.. its a slow start, but still a start.. gonna keep workin and gettin faster.. see ya on the gate boys.. Ill be catchin up to ya soon!
mannequinforce

Pt and training is goin allright, still pushin to get back where I was over 5 years ago, still have a ways to go, but quitting is not an option, I am back in school to get my degree in physical therapy so thats cutting into my workout time a little, but I am still at it, and the new hot tub I have on my back porch is helpin matters a ton when I do my usual overdoing it at the track and or the gym..thats about it for now...didnt make my main at the national on sunday but then again I dont think I embarressed myself at all either.. Ill try and keep some updates comin..see ya all at Grands.. dont think Im racin it this year, but Im gettin closer..
Dexter
Just an update, been racing a little more, not quite a main maker yet but gettin faster, and I am puttin up over 400lbs on the seated leg press, a long way from what I used to, but the most I have done in over 5 years... gettin there.

Great job. Keep up the hard work!
Dexter
Been doin allright on my cruiser, thinkin its about time to renew the old 20" card again.
Brandon002
I love hearing this stuff Dexter. I can't wait to be on the road to recovery as well. The fact that you're able to work your way back after the injuries you had makes me feel a lot better about what my future holds.
Dexter
just got back from the gym. doin leg presses a few sets of 10 with 440# on there, gettin stronger all the time. Make that 450# as of 1/18/2012, If Im not goin forward, I feel like I am goin backwards so full steam ahead!
Dexter
-Raced my 20" for the first time since before my accident, felt allright.. didnt make the main but hung with the group pretty well, I am gettin there.
mannequinforce
Jealous man! I haven't raced in over 1 1/2 years. Training everyday and getting stronger is great for you! Congrats!
