When I was racing back in the mid 80's in TX there were several people that I hated racing.

1. Jay Davis - He was such a skinny kid, I couldn't understand how in the world he could beat me.
2. Eddie Siqmund - He was about 6 months older than me. So I had to race him about half the year.
3. Parnell Haley - Had to race him every night. But he sure made me a better racer.
4. Marty Christman - When we went to race in San Antonio, and our class or his class didn't make. I hated having to race someone who was about 2 younger than me and facing the fact he just might beat me..

no wonder why i hated it so much,
come to find out,
they were like 3 years older then me
or something...
diden't they get banned for life?
1983 superbowl of bmx in toledo,oh
would have been mine if it wasn't for these guys.

Shawn Sheely MN-1
Richard Flemming (took me out - and himself - from behind while I was leading the Mile High Nats, two years in row 15x/16x - both mains at the last one, jeez) and Tracer Finn (similar reasons).

Definitely hated racing Lee Medllin (never saw anything but backside when racing him).

Oh, and never like racing Ronny Anderson - too fast, too dirty. And he stole my shorts and liked to hide my bike! smile.gif

At the above mentioned later Mile High Nats, Willie Hubner's dad handed me a half gallon of lemonade after practice (it was over 100 degrees) - I was sharing it with John Sandberg near the finish line when Ronnie rolled up and said in his NorCal drawl "dude, gimme some of that". I said "no way Ronnie, get your own". After some threatening taunts, he turned to John and said "tell your friend he's lucky I don't beat his azz" and rode off. John was like "what was that all about". I said "two pair of OP shorts"... I was actually scared, but it felt good.

I never really hated racing anyone,
If they were better than me it only made me try harder to get better so I could beat them,
if they were Dirty racers, well I just played their game and Wasted a moto and crashed their A@&
In fact I kinda liked doing that it was more fun than beating them

RICH COLES!
I hated him back then,
and I still hate him today. sarcastic_blum.gif
mainbiker
Dave Wilson at Azusa ABA in California. He was only guy I knew that I did not even have a chance against. One time he crashed and still got up and beat me handily. He had the most natural speed that I have ever seen. He raced on a dirty bike, in jeans and t shirt, beat everyone, and was still cool as ice.
riderippers
Would have loved a few more shots at beating Geoff Schoffield (GT). He was lightning fast, only had a chance to race him a couple times. There was another guy that was factory Diamond back, didn't hate him, just a little upset I didn't beat him when it mattered. Had him every moto, till I hit the dirt!

Also Adam "bomber" Clay (SE Factory Boy) (Where are you, I would love to catch up) It was more that I liked to race these people as they were so fast. I would have liked to have had a better winning pct. against them though!
GRIZZ
Well, being that I started racing in Souther Oregon, I guess anytime the NorCal pros or Portland pros would come down to take our money. We had a local car dealership put up a few thousand a couple years in a row, and none of us local pros ever won sad.gif Damn, Steve Veltman was fast - still is.

But, who did I hate? Someone you probably don't know - Jer Dubert. Still lives in SoOre and racing stock cars now, I think. I am sure he's a nice guy now, but I couldn't stand him then.

GRIZZ
omartcruisers
Corky Gainsford and Pee Wee Lee up in Washington (River Valley, SeaTac, Pennisula). Those guys were so fast! I never trophied till I moved to AZ and raced in Tucson when Manzanita reopened in 93 or 94.
Jason Chang
There always seems to be that one beer belly guy that is fast. I HATE THAT. It is so demoralizing.

I never hated racing anyone but 2 guys that I wish I had beat were "Chicken" George Seevers and Mike Luna. They were always the fast guys around my age that you would see in the magazines winning nationals and get factory rides. I liked both of them but would have liked to have beat them even more.
B. Apold
I ran into some issues with Mike Salido (Skyway Factory). I'd say just about every national main him and I were in there was some kind of contact. He usually got the best of me because he was a good sized kid, and I was not... Richie Anderson was usually gone (of course). I never really hated running against anyone but Salido, on the other hand its racing and he held his line better by using his size .(more power to him I guess). Actually everyone in my class for the most part ran pretty fare. (Sandberg, John Anderson, Disipulo, Cocurous, Krone, TC, etc. all stand up racers IMO.

Sean Miland was a real hack though sarcastic_hand.gif

Jason Johnson was his correct age and never banned from racing. He just grew tired of it, I actually had a long talk with him the year after he quit racing. He came to the ABA Grands to spectate. Not sure about Jason Bruton though.
dsmith
well thats what ive been told, tahoe taylors i think(not sure)(long time ago).
Racer
Guy Metz - Easton Schwinn then Factory Schwinn after winning NBL National #1 Amateur.
I dont think I ever beat him. Considered him a freind just frustrated that I never beat him and by the time I was fast enough to have maybe, possibly he really wasn't racing.

For me, I hated Gary DeBacker! We only raced each other for 3 months a year, but it was always intense! Both of us being from Michigan was rough too. Then he got his big break with JMC and I wanted to kill him even more....and I was only 8 years old.

I look back and it was just such a fun time. I wouldn't change anything that I did.

If you look at my avatar I think that is Gary DeBacker behind me from what I remember. That is my alltime favorite picture because I am in front of the national #1 at South Park.

Nico Ortiz...dude was 13 and the size of my dad. He'd be like 5 lengths ahead of everyone by the first jump no problem. Ended up on the Skyway team. That was pretty huge for a kid racing on a track in Santa Fe, NM.

I hear he's still in the area and owns a restaurant. I also hear he still has a T/A Cruiser.
gaijin
I always hated racing Tony Szynaka, 'cause he was a huge shizzle talker and I wasn't fast enough to shut him up.

Jason Burton started racing at the Jax BMX track in the early 80s. He was 3 or 4 years younger than me. The guy was huge even then. At least 5'10 with facial hair. Everyone at the track thought he was older. He was fast but not smooth at all.

JT Taylor......I didnt hate racing him, I just hated the dude...

I think you and debacher always kicked my butt from what I remember, but it was fun. Like you say its hard to remember when we were only 8 to 10 yrs old

Very True!
I raced from 1979-1985
All over the country from 1980-1982
Richie Anderson (Patterson), Eric Kocen (SE), Kelly McDougal (Cook Bros.) they were about 8-10 months older than me and I could never beat them!
Billy Griggs (CW): he was about 8 months younger than me and he beat me more than I beat him!
Ron House (Vans), Tom Christopher(BMX Plus), Korry Neal (Kuwahara): alway had some type of drama with these fast kats!
These were not guys I hated to race against but always gave me a race: Doug Davis (Diamondback), Gary Greene (Torker), Greg Liggins (Jag), Tony Denim (CW), Robbie Foster (Panda), Jeff Anderson (HBS), Dave Wilson (GT), Eric Garcez (Redline), Brian Gass (Elf) (when he was older), Roy David, Chris Torres (Patterson), Jon Anderson (Redline)

I hated racing against my brother Iceman. He smoked cigarettes and never rode his bike other than at practice once a week and race day. Granted, he's 7 years older than me. I had to race him in the cruiser class and when I turned 17 it was 17 and over expert as well. I did beat him a few times at the start of the season b/c he hadn't been on a bike since the previous season, but by week 2 or 3 it was back to the old routine. I would get crazy butterflies in my stomach if I was in front of him. He was the first to admit I could beat him, but just had a mental block. It did make me faster racing and practicing against him all the time. We were the two fastest guys at the track smile.gif
VAbmxdad
There was a kid who used to show up at my local track named Dusty Quick. I can't remember where he was from, but when he showed up, I knew I'd be taking 2nd that day. Never beat the guy.
Mike'Ultimate Sin of Bmx'Crehan
AKCUDA, I know your brother, I raced at NorthHampton Mass indoor, and at a few other places.
Billy Patterson
Locally (Austin, Tx) - Eddie Siegmund & Troy Jenson. There was always drama between me and who ever. Usually because someone crashed.

Regionally (Austin, SA, Dallas, Houston, etc.) - Clark Worth, Jay Davis, Parnell Haley & Jason Jones.
AGAIN. ALWAYS DRAMA. There was always drama between me and who ever. Apparently The 40 times they accused me of being older than I was and having to produce a Birth certificate, ABA Card, etc wasn't good enough. (Nope still same age, same B-day, same class, whatever.)

Nationally - No one really. Maybe Robbie Fox in From Tucson, Az (I think) and later in my BMX career Jason Johnson (Hutch Factory). He was a big kid and he and I usually bumped until one of us went down or the other won.
Ted Carl
laugh.gif funny topic...

I can only remember one guy that I hated his gutz out.

I can't remember his name for certain. It was a Sean or Shawn (Omitted, but I think I know it, lol) from Wisconsin. He wore one of them red plastic open faced helmets.

Novice class, he had narrowly beaten me a couple times one day. ...Then (it was a bigger indoor race, Cornhusker National???), I took it wire to wire in the Semi-finals. And after crossing the finish line I turned to say "good race" and he punched me square in the face (I had a full faced helmet on).

Then when I looked back again to see, who the, what the, ...he grabbed the face bar of my helmet and tried to pull me off my bike, saying something about taking "His" line in the last turn. ...Then a TO grabbed him. I don't think he saw the initial hit, but I remember hearing the crowd, and people making different "Ohhhh, Ahhhh", sounds, and all eyes looking at us.

Maybe the TO didn't see it, (everyone else did, lol) because he didn't get DQ'd. I think he won the mains that day, and I got second. Which made me hate his gutz worse, because he should have been DQ'd.....

I just decided to take the high road, and whoop him badly on the track from that point on.... I made sure the guy never got close enough to me to see anything but the name on my Uni after that, and he never did sun_bespectacled.gif .

I hated that guy. He became moto fill for me and I quit seeing him at races eventually. wink.gif But he was not friendly at all, just a big jerk wad, and he is the only one I remember ever hating to see at races, and racing in my class. Cuz I always just wanted to sock him in the mush....lol.

Oh, and I hated racing Shawn Sheely, he used to eject roofing nails, and sharpened Rondo bottle caps, out of his handlebar ends in turn one. laugh.gif (I'm only kidding, Shawn's my bud... )

There were names that gave me anxiety on the moto sheets. But the only ones I disliked racing, were usually unknowns to me, and were proven to race dirty...nobody likes a hack. If you T-boned me in a corner to knock me out of the race, I hated racing you.... sarcastic_blum.gif
