What a great show Paul put on in Portland today!
Thanks, man - good job.
It was fun catching up with other vbmx members too. And, lo and behold, the OM showed up with t shirts and auographs. What a treat to talk to the guy who made this bmx thing what it is.
I will post pictures in the upcoming week, and encourage others to add them to this thread.
Again, a huge thanks to Paul and his gang for a fun afternoon.
bmxmom
good to hear it went off well. looking forward to the pics.
ghostriderBMX
Steve your bikes were sick as usual.

The flakes that didn't show up really missed out.

Not just the OM, but Ron Wilkerson, Mike Domingez, Scott Freeman, Hugo D, and Brian Blyther. Such a great turnout and the guys hung out all afternoon talking, taking pics, and signing autographs.. Here's a few pics.

Looked like a great time!! always fun when scot shows up!!
What are the moster looking hubs on that jad?
Roc
good2.gif WOW!!! By far the best show I’ve ever been to! The location at the Recyclery just added to the overall VIBE. The bikes, the people, the Legends, the weather, the PBR drinks.gif ; I couldn’t have asked for a better day. A BIG thanks goes out to bmxghostrider (Paul) for his time and commitment for making this event the party it was. I was thinking that the lot may be to small for the event, but it was actually just right and plenty of room to spare. Those of you who blew it off, really missed something special. Looking forward to next year.

the whole thing was cool. Having legends there added to the flavor. Ron Wilkerson had the whole UniBomber look going on, minus the hooded sweatshirt. Ron, get a haircut!
Also, the Nike 6.0 thing was crazy to say the least. It is confirming that I am getting too old for most "partying" types of things. But, to chat with the OM, Blyther, Dominguez, Freeman, Wilkerson, Nourie, and more, is a cool experience that I won't soon forget.
Thanks Ben for the opportunity.

Nike Party

BenOr
DJ Peanut Butter Wolf was spinning the hits for the kids. Lots of video, ice sculptures, BMX riders of new and old... pretty crazy evening.

ghostriderBMX
Thanks Ben for setting up a lot of that stuff with the guys. Made it an amazing day.. Knew I should have went to the NIKE party LOL.
DAN
I took home the ice sculpture but somebody must have stole it while I was sleeping. All that was left was a puddle!

Seriously fun day of BMX. Flew in to Portland at 10:45 Friday night with Ben there to pick me up and put me up. Ben's place is so nice no five star hotel could beat it. Wake up and have breakfast (homemade by Ben's great wife) with a true legend of BMX Ken Pliska...oh yeah Scot B was there as well. Head to the Portland gathering hang with Roc and Alfa. Meet some new people and see some cool stuff. We tried to hit a local shop I had scrounged a few years ago but the crazy owner was off burying a body so no go on that one. Portland locals can probably figure out the shop!

Off to the Dew tour after a quick tour of the BMX Museum. Now I've not been a big fan of the site but Gary the owner of BMX Museum is one of the coolest cats I've met for a long time and I had a great time hanging with him. He invited me over to hang and dig deeper in to his casa but I was beat and need a little recharge before the Nike gig. Anyway back to the Dew tour we barge the VIP section and enjoyed some killer riding and some free grub plus all the Mountain Dew we could consume (one can in my case). The new school riding is so off the hook. Thanks to Scot B for hooking up a couple of VIP passes and thanks to Gary for getting the barging taken care for the two other members of the party!

After some down time at the Joy estate we scoot down by the Nike 6.0 gig and have a couple adult beverages at a local watering hole. The bartender asks if I wanted a beer back...I love that! We make the scene and what a scene it was! Nike must have spent a fortune on that gig! I've been to my share of art openings but this thing was done at a new level. I guess the shoe biz is still pulling the loot. There was a cereal bar as well as a candy counter full of candy bars and indiviual candies. They had what looked to be a pile of eclairs big enough to bust the new school guys out of their girl pants if they weren't careful. Pro's from the old school and the new hanging, signing stuff and fighting to get drinks along with the rest of us. Oh yeah the plates were killer and I was stoked to see our own Scott Towne was included as one of the artist. Nice job Scott!

Five thirty wake up on Sunday and back in time to open the store and get to work. Killer time and much thanks to the entire Joy family as well as The OM and Gary from BMX Museum. Also thanks to Roc for the grips and Aaron for the cool 70's pads!!

Man I'm tired....

It was our pleasure DAN.

Here is a 3 1/2 min Youtube video of the photos I took.

Now THAT was a blast!

Absolute BEST day of pure BMX (Old School, Mid-School, Race, Freestyle, Current) in the NW!

It will take hours to go through my photos but I'll add some to this thread as well. That Nike 6.0 party was seriously "off the hook" as my college kids would say smile.gif Tons of Dew Tour athletes there till the wee hours of the morning, even though they had live televised finals the next day.

wow that looked really cool.....thanks for the pics........

This place was packed! Tons of Old School BMX Guys, AST Dew Tour Guys, Freestyle legends, arm candy......

Notice our table was juice, water and soda only. No need for alcohol for us.

Gary (BMXMuseum.com) was a serious autograph hound smile.gif

Don't let Ben's mellow nature fool you. He knows how to get excited for Fuel TV.

Hey a quick note to everybody. The picture with me giving the thumbs down to Scott Towne's plate was a total gag and meant to be placed with Ben Joy's thumbs up shot. I was the mean art critic he was the nice one....seemed funny at the time. Thanks Jack Daniels! I love Scott and respect his art and riding so I'm sorry that it came across as me putting down his work. Sorry Scott.
BenOr
The intent made it to the youtube version.... We were razzing our friend who is creative and can ride a bike like a man 7/8's his age.

BTW - We went to the "East Bank Saloon" prior. The event was so back logged, we had water...

This year, I spent more time looking at the details of some of the greater bikes at the show. These are some of the things that caught my attention:

This was from an A&A. It was my favorite bike at the event. I liked how primitive some of the components are. It is a very honest bike.

Paul brought an impressive collection of DGs. I loved the bikes, but this equipment was my favorite. Very cool...it takes me back to any 1970s issue of BMX Action.

This Stroker was another honest and period-correct bike. Those tires are great - perfect for a bike like this one.

The winning 70s bike, a Champion, was all about the details. This brake bridge/Mathauser combo is the kind of stuff taking a resto like Roc's Champion over the top.

The OM. Great to meet Scott for the first time ever. Super nice guy.

...and, he was signing whatever came his way:

66alfa_gtv

From the same Champion, a really clean double clamp stem:

More 1970s coolness:

Nice pics Steve. I see the artist in you..

I was impressed by all the 70's bike as well.

scottTowne
Dan, quit being a [something about a cat?]. Let's talk about that orange Cheetah!!!
BenOr
Louieville, Did the chevy goofball post and it get deleted?

KOP - Mirra was so cool. He was nice while being pulled 10 directions. He rode well and was polite at the party. OM set us up with VIP passed - Net Dinner and seats behind the judges.

That's my bike. I'd be more than happy to talk about it!
For that matter, I understand you may have some stickers. I'd love to see what they are supposed to really look like.
Monster-Robot
WOW!!! A&A stem and forks(?)!!!!! wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

Sweet stroker as well....although setting next to a bright blue G-Boy it kind of loses the gee-whiz effect. Gorgeous bikes!!!

Feel free to post up the Cheetah again....we're not even close to tired of that lil' fellar yet! More pics always welcome!

66alfa_gtv
This old thing?

Monster-Robot
^^^^ mmmmmmm.....yes!

One of my top five favorite builds......EVER!!!
scottTowne
sorry man, I know you've asked about that sticker and I haven't come through for you. I'll try to dig it up. Those bikes are amazing. I love the 70s bikes so much. I just might do some vintage work here soon....
Roc
Steve, all those close up shots are killer! good2.gif What a cool perspective... Thanks!

Monster, you missed the A&A bars and seat struts..

Where in the world did you come up with those!? And your decal....?

How do you identify them (bars and struts)? Were the fork and frame together or is that the fork that was on eBay a few months ago?

I'm rather obsessed with A&A right now.

BenOr
An a past Bike Gallery Racer (Mike Harry) showed up at this event. When the Haro guys were there, he mentioned he thought he might have his old Haro Plate. Bob made 4 plates for the Bike Gallery Team in 1978. The only known to exist had been sold to exist had been sold to TIM for safe keeping (23 The Bike Gallery). The other three were gone...

Until this week. Mike found his hand made Haro plate, pre thunder bolt. It is hand cut on a Preston Petty Plate and signed by Bob Haro in 1978. The best thing? Mike never installed it as it was a white plate. It is un drilled! It is a hand cut Bob Haro artwork that is NOS and 30 years old. It is going to eBay for his sons savings account.

Also found? From the early August 1978 trip to Scot B and SE's factory our PRO sign up paperwork and decals, NOS SE decals, and pile of otehr items.

What a cool gathering! Man, I wish I was able to attend someof you US guys gatherings. They seem so cool!

Who is the owner of the stellar winner of Best Cruiser (the Kuwahara 24)? I'm keen to see more photos of it, as I am building one. What a stunning looking Kuwahara 24!
Keep_It_Warm
This thread really is sweet. I can't tell you how many times I've come back to look at the pics.

...I've already met DAN, and seen Ken Pliska many times, but now I finally can put a face to Ben Joy!

Very well-captured event!

beautiful pics and great bikes. 70's stuff just rocks doesn't it. Brilliant.
