I beseach the BMX Gurus for enlightenment

I've rencently came into 2 Western Flyer BMXs still unassembled in their boxes. They came with a lot of bikes from a shop that closed in 1982 and sat in dry storage (the shop was in the high desert) until they were sold to a colletor in 1997. The original shipping lables were still on the outside, but no discernable model was named. The lid on one of the boxes had been openned, so I removed that bike once to photograph it and its components before repacking it. The bike that was photographed was a chrome Western Flyer Invader 24 with blue pads and tires. I am assuming that the other bike is a similar model and it says on the box that it is red.

What I can't peg down is what the specific year these bikes are from. Since the shop went under in 82 that gives me one end of the spectrum. Any illumination on what years Western flyer was building the Invader 24 or was still functioning as a company would be great. The two model numbers on the outside of the boxes are (for the Chrome): 34-2742-4, and (for the red) 34-2750-7.

Any and all information on Wester Flyer BMXs would be appreciated.

I confess that the significants of 2 old school BMXs in the box is somewhat wasted on me. I would prefer that these beauties go to a collector, someone who would appreciate them, hang them on their wall, or put them back in a time capsule to appreciate. I'm in Portland Oregon, so I'll be at the vintage BMX show this coming saturday with the bikes.

IF you have any particular attachment, question, or interest in these bikes let me know.

Cheers

I doubt the model #s will do you any good. It's the serial #s you for a date code. Cool find

Hi and welcome,

Nice finds there. I would guess these are Murray built. The box says 20" but the pads indicate 24"....little confusing to me. Not high end stuff but still have good worth to them. I know where there's an NOS 20" BMXer still on the sales floor at a closed Western Auto. It's got freewheel and gumwalls and I guess it to be from '82ish. I would pick it up if someone has enough interest in it. I wish you the best and hope they go to a good home.
