Seriously, for Industry Folk, nobody deserves to be in there more than Roger Berg.

Roger Berg was a design engineer for General Motors and it is he that actually designed square headlights in the very early 1970s. His best friend was one of the main Corvette designers at GM.

When Roger retired from GM, he returned to Oregon and opened up an award winning restaurant that featured his famous Vertically Cooked "Verti-Burgers". Next to the restaurant was a piece of swamp land owned by a local private academy. In the middle 1970s, Roger signed a lease with the academy and built one of the first Permanent BMX tracks in the Northwest. His track, Fun Run BMX, would host some of the first west coast Nationals with the NPSA (National Pedal Sports Association).

Always the inventor/designer, Roger took a long look at the 1970s BMX bikes and decided to shave some weight off of them. He then designed the world's first one piece Seat/Seatpost Combo and called it the "Uni-Seat". The second generation of Uni Seats (The Turbo), were designed in a wind tunnel as were the Uni number plates of the same era. With his automotive background, Roger was all about weight and aerodynamics. By the mid 1980s, Uni had grown into a huge company and regularly took out six page spreads in BMXA and BMX Plus even during the lean years of the Sport of BMX.

The freestyle era favored the Uni BMX wheelcovers and funky Aerodynamic plates. The Uni Wheelcovers for track bikes are still seen at Velodromes today. Uni seat copies (BMX) are on every mini out of Taiwan and China and the latest generation of authentic Uni Seats are selling like hotcakes around the globe right now.

The Uni warehouse is filled with all kinds of inventions that have come from the mind of Roger Berg. Microwave Milkshakes, Tuna Can Strainers, Poultry Cookers....... you name it, Roger probably has a patent on it. His Runabout Strollers are some of the most sought after high end strollers ever produced.

At 70 years old, Roger continues to invent and develop all kinds of things to further the sport of BMX racing as well as help with everyday tasks.

I urge you to vote for Roger Berg for this year's induction into the ABA BMX Hall Of Fame.

What other products besides Uni Seats and Plates did Roger Berg design for bmx?

Uni products were always totally innovative and looked cool too!

Funny timing, I just bought a NOS (1981) Uni plate off ebay last week and I was reading the back of the original packaging, comparing weight and aerodynamics...I'm sure there was weight was a saving, however I'm not sure that there would be much gain in the aerodynamic effiency huh.gif

The old Haro Tech plate or mesh verison would have a little more cred in my opinion...with the air passing through the plate

However, not to go too far off topic, I think Uni, were one of the first company to take weight saving into major consideration...and there innovation would make them very much worthy of the Hall of Fame...

Ken:

Are they still making BMX products today? What year did they get started?
or01bmxr
Cash, have you been to a race recently? All the cool kids are running the new Uni Mini's.
I gotta admit, to see Uni come back and have a place in today's bmx market, is pretty cool.
Someone (company) needs to have the guts to bring back billboard sized number plates. I remember loving the air dam plates.
Oh, and Ken, you forgot the thermoformed frame that was hung up at Verti-burger and the carbon CW-style handlebars that were tested by Jon Minor. The ones that flexed at least two inches each way from center. Even genius's have their off days.

Steve,

I actually wrote those on my note pad and forgot to type them into my post. The World's First Carbon Handlebars in the 1980s. If I remember correctly, Haney owns the only surviving set (from Jay Graves through Ben Joy to Haney).
