I have been on this site since the very beginning, and I remember about 6-7 years ago Jeff Haney talked about an original SE STR-1 that he knew the whereabouts of and he was in the process of trying to buy it. I also understand that the original STR-1 is considered by a lot of collectors to be the absolute holy grail of collectible SE Racing frames.
So, have any been found?

I had the impression that a few were made, not just one.

I think someone mentioned there were a few protos that supposedly never left the factory. Don't remember who said that, but it was here on Vintage.

I thought the original number was 6 made and destroyed. Is Scot lurking somewhere?

Made and destroyed? why? all the time fabricating...that would be a waste...or would have been....

The problem was that they couldn't get the frame straight, trying to make the twin tubes do all those bends. That's why the project got scrapped.

I remember hearing that one of the other problems with this design was that the bottom bracket would rock back and forth under pedaling and put too much stress on the welds.
