Not exactly vintage, this was in '96.
The bike wasn't a tricked out Ventana or Santana full suspension rig, it was a budget KHS Tandemania with a Manitou 3 fork (which really didn't work), and some V-brakes. Thick tubes to take the heat generated from braking were a necessity.
Riding and racing this beast was real test of the strength of our marriage. Big Bear and Rim Nordic were the courses we ran it at. We weren't the fastest out there, but we were the oldest. laugh.gif I was 38, Teresa was 32.

I don't care who you are, that looks FUN!

I've got this one.

Its an absolute blast. I basically traded a 87 gt profreestyle tour team for it. Best trade off ever for me.

We took the tandem out for the first time (in dirt) in at least 10 years.
The ride was in Lucerne Valley this past Saturday.
It was 22 miles of work, to say the least. We haven't exactly been doing any training, other than me doing the bmx thing.
It was also the most fun that we've had together bicycling in a long time.
We're at 1:14 in the video.

H#ll yeah, that's the best trade ever! I love it! What year?

MTB tandems look like soooo much fun.

A holy grail to me (now that I dont chase vintage bmx bikes...er much), would be an Ibis Uncle Fester or Cousin It. I really (REALLY!) want to track one of those down, and build it up.

Still have my 90 Rodriguez AL26. Funnest biking ever is off road with a fearless stoker.

Cool topic

I recently bought an early 90's IBIS tandem that is really sweet, got it from Brent Walk and he hardly rode it. I dont have any pics to post but I can try to this week.

Last November I raced the Iceman Commeth Challenge in Traverse City, Michigan with my three kids 6, 8 and 10. They each did a section like a relay race, my wife drove them from point to point to make the exchanges. Its a 28 mile race and typically cold sometimes snowy & rainy, it was very hard but really fun with 2500 riders on the course. We had a blast doing it and my kids all did great.

Mostly we ride our tandem on family off road bike rides, my daughter tends to go slow when alone so if I ride the tandem with her then we keep the whole group going a little faster.

I really want to get a tandem, but I already have a bunch of other projects going.

There's a race series in Folsom, CA that has a Tandem class. I give them mad respect along with the single speed racers.
