OKOK
In 2000, as eBay was ramping up, I cashed in. Not my proudest moment, but helped me get ahead as I started my professional career. I worked in a mail order bike shop fro 1989 to 1992. In the neighboring town there was a amish bike shop who bought our dead stock because they did not care about the latest model. I used to buy 12 haro master 1985 frames at a time. Many of the 85 masters came from this lot. Our shop bought the last 500 pairs of shimano dx pedals too. Sorry so jumbled with the details, but after collecting 16 proper bmx bikes circ 1981/1985 I ended up selling them to a weed dealer for 15k cash. GT nora cup, hutch pro racer, 3 quads, CW phase, Paterson RA, powerlite pit bike, JMC shadow, skyway TA. All with flights, bear traps, etc. A what seemed top be a huge pile of memorabilia of that era. This was an exercise to look closer at what my heros were using of that era, and flip some bmx goods on ebay. After selling all 15 bikes to a weed grower in Northern california, I was out of the game scott free. Never saw an acme featherweight chain from mike c in the process. Last week I picked up a jmc black shadow complete off ebay. will track down a few things, but at the end of the day its important to remember these bikes can act as a time machine for taking you to an era, and what that era felt like.
For me, It was important to feel what and Jeff felt racing as a 16 year old with the world in front of him. I think I will need to get this frame painted candy apple red with blue decals to really strike the nerve, but for now Im back.
Jeff, Craig, Scott, if your out there, would be psyched to share some life details with you, and gain some prospective of how it all went down. What was that shop in Chesterton with the parking lot to parking lot step down? that seemed like jumping off the edge of the earth as a kid.

I really am happy to see these posts on this thread. I will try to scan some pics from my photo album. There was a pic from Buds that someone posted and the guy was wearing a Red Bud T shirt. I unfortunately do not have photos from that track even though we would race there every Friday ( which was the best down hill track ever next to Evansville), raced Benton Harbor on Saturdays and raced South Shore on Sundays. Occasionally we would do Edwardsburg on Saturdays after Benton Harbor. I am really thankful that my parents supported me and the sport. Like I said I have some pics but not as many survived as I would have liked. I will try to scan and post.

Duane... if you ever make it back on here again, would you mind re-posting that pic you had of me? My computer crashed and I lost all my pics. I thought that was a funny picture and you have the only copy!
How about some storys from the old south shore?
The last race ever at the indoor track, They made an anouncement "free hot dogs at the snack bar" I ate so many hot dogs that I got sick and at the same time I was installing a new pair of cranks on my bike, then during the mains, I was coming up on the first turn... way out in front... then my left crank arm falls completely off. What a way to end my racing at south shore. I remember walking my bike off the track with my left crank arm in hand humiliated and embarased. oooohhhh... the shame !

Hey everyone, Mark Viel here. WOW, seeing all these names bring back so many memories. I remeber racing Damon, Duane and Jason BITD. Southshore was a blast back then, I cant believe we used to race 2x a day in 2 diffferent cities!! Some of these names I havent heard in years. I remeber going to my first ABA grands in Tulsa with the Starbucks. Whatever happened to the Moody clan? Koby, Mollie ,and JT Taylor. I still see Craig "Reynolds Wrap" Reynolds on TV as a commentator.

The only surviving photo of South Shore in my archives. Must be because I was in the lead (I exercised editorial privilege and "edited" out all the other ones...probably steps away from the Photomat).

Spy my sah-weet "Hotfeet" pedals. Lots of gas was purchased due to those babies. That is about as UN clipped in as you can get (without riding on the shaft-only of your Kingsbury or Hare pedals after that little clip got lost). Hard to tell if I was slipping a pedal and headed into the pavement, or just that WFO.

I'm loving all these old stories about South Shore Indoor, and Elkhart IN.
Remember the announcer at Elkhart, Kenny the Printer...lol
Now in my "over 40's" I've cleaned up my Bandito Cruiser and going to start racing the "old mans" cruiser class
out here in Cali...

That's a great pic of Poe. I'm pretty sure the drilled Ripper wasn't Ron Schnick. Ron worked for my family for years and ended up going to work for Bose. He took me under his wing and taught me everything about racing. He's a great guy. Holla back if your out there Schnick! I'm trying to find some great pics I have from the Hutch BMX Camp in August 1983. Anyone out there attend that shin dig?
.
I was their for the summer camp and had a blast. In 83 I was 16. Racked up a ton of points and also received a nice plack to put on my wall I also received a sportsman ship award for helping with the week if you have any picks I would love to see them please contact me at tedbrockly@sbcglobal.net

Great memories flooding in. Remember the time the track was flooded (82 or 83?) and we could not race? Also, I crashed in practice once in a short sleeve shirt. Landed in a corner and did not slide. I stuck. The syrup literally pulled all my arm hairs off and some skin. The officials had to peel me up cause it hurt to much to do it on my own. Now I have 43 tats on my body. I wonder if...

http://justgobmx.com/old1.htmI remember a guy with last name of Lackey that hung out from time-to-time with friend of mine from Calumet City (Eric Larson) that had lake cottage near my house in Michigan. I raced at South Shore a few times but can't remember if Eric did or not. Lackey I remember was riding a Traker I think. That you?
