Been thinking about doing something with all these pics and stories but between racing and work havent had much time . NJ started a bmx site just for the history of bmx in NJ this past year . Delaware should do one . Ive checked out DE. site and theres no oldschool stuff . Have you been on a track yet ?

Does Road bike count....then no...I purchased Ron RE 's bike, but when they turned Blue diamonds track into a RC Track it killed the drive to try. No one around here is into it, if my kids had a track local to go to I could see a come back . I lived on that bike... I think kids around here love Wii and Nintendo DS.

Was that a aba or nbl , cause I think theres still one open in De. Yea its hard to get kids on the track . I find that most all the kids arround here ride trails not tracks .

Man, memories I didn't know I had. I don't know who I'm racing here. popcorm2.gif Must be a local race at Lums Pond or something.
In the third pic it's clearly me and Gordy again getting into the gate, while the 15 & under cruiser moto rolls off again. I don't really remember a North Bergen national that looked like that. I could be wrong, though. It's still 1981 though. Wow, you took so many pics back then.

I am still waiting for the 3 NBL Grands DVD set after 2 weeks. Hope I wasn't lost between the cracks.

Bob that Nj track was a ABA national 82. I think the cruiser was like 15-24 , Im the only 15 year old in that race .
Raced Clarence Perry in the trophy dash there . Hole-shotted him from the inside , by the time I got to first turn I could feel the ground vibrating (NO JOKE). He pedaled arround me on the outside , he is so strong its unbelievable . That day I figured out why they called him Earthquake . Still have his # plate from that day . He probably thought I was weird , someone from his class asking for his plate . From what I hear he is still racing . good2.gif

Excuses. I made my comeback with the intent of only racing very nearby Blue Diamond but it closed a week after I finished my new school bike. I race NBL now but Milford, First State (ABA) really isn't that bad a drive from northern DE. Once your on the track again you'll see the drive is worth it.

Cool glad to hear you guys in DE still have some place to race . You might want to check out the Pa & NJ tracks I hear there's still a few . I was there for the first bmx race in DE ever .

All thoughs pics make me wish I had raced for a few more years back then . After I quit I started as a concrete carpenter , all I did was carry these forms connecting and disconnecting them all day . They weighed 100 plus lbs each , so I got really strong really fast . Its too bad I didnt get back into it then . I got to play some football , but I played for another school (my school had no football team )and I hurt a few players . The school's insurance didnt like it so they wouldnt let me play anymore . They used the excuse that I was taking a place from one of there kids . I played both offence and defense line & both special teams so i probably did keep kids from playing . Just getting back up to speed now so I'm having alot of fun racing again . BMX people have been real cool to me .

But could anybody on Wooden Wheels do a Leary BITD?
FWIW, I did a full 180 cross up on a Moosegoose off the Millersville berm and Justin Shepherd's father took a pic of it. Hopefully Justin is reading this and will post the pic as a reply.

I think Ron Re & I were the only guys on the team that would get the Leary jump fully clicked . There may have been others but I didnt see them do it . I have some old shots of me and Ron doing it I'll try to find . Maybe I'll just have to whip one out for you old dudes & post a shot . biggrin.gif

Hey DeLuxx,

I have a shot of me doing an X-Up over the Millersville berm. Justin's dad took it. It's dated 11-3-1980. That was a fun berm to jump for sure!

Here's another pic from the same day.

Millersville BITD recorded with wind up 8mm camera that ran down at the end:
Millersville: Larry beats Chad Christy

I've got my fingers crossed that Justin Shepherd or his father are out there, because I know I did a clean 180 like that with big air on a Moosegoose no less and Justin's father definitely got the pic. I think he liked it so much, because he later bought the Moosegoose frameset from me!

The 1st time I went to millersville it had a concrete sarting hill alot taller than the vid for a national . The ABA made a vid for the hall of fame of bmx from part of that race . Anyway the vid shows me going through the woops and the dude next to me explodes & does a face plant flip then the bike does massive cartwheels right beside me . NBL put out a dvd last year for congress and I think its got a shot of Bubba Hayes , Richie Anderson and myself coming through a first turn somewhere bitd and I slip a pedal trying to get under Richie in the turn . smile.gif

I was teammates with Franco Perrino we were the same age and I don't remember racing cruiser, but that was my first race riding for Thruster. I guess he may have a few times obviously.

Those pictures are great.
I see Joe Layton in this picture, don't know if you remember him, cool guy, just never tucked in his jersey.
