I am trying to restore an old GT , and realised I know very little in terms of product history.

Its an Feb / 84 Performer (I believe this is the first month of production?)
Anyway, I need to decal it up and wondered what decals should go on it?

So does anyone know did the world tour come as a frameset or complete bike?
Was the world tour released at the same time as the pro performer?

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

I don't know a whole lot, but I'm pretty sure a World Tour, Performer and Pro Performer were all the same frame pre-1987. It was just a matter of the parts they came with. The World Tour was the top of the line and came with top of the line stuff, while a performer came with more entry level components. But they were all built on the same 4130 single-bend frame, with different stickers. In 1987, GT came out with the S-frame, and those were chromoly. All bikes from the Pro Performer up came with the S-frame. They continued to make the single bend frames at the same time and built what became their low-end Performer around those. These were no longer chromoly and no longer available as the frame only.

I have an 85 Pro Performer and an in the midst of restoring. I got my decals from AJK Bikes (a site sponsor on the right of this page) and they are SOLID!!! I thought that the World Tour came AFTER the 84 Pro Performer no??

i think a feb '84 frame would be too early for World Tour decals. pretty sure that name came in '85.
