I'm not having a pop at Matt, Kurt - just having a discussion. I think my points are valid, but they are not meant to upset anyone.

my view is that those cranks are not repro. they are genuine JC and are a testament to the quality work he does.
we cannot deny the fact that Matt's build is stunning, even if some purists need to nitpick.

thats cool Neal, i dont think your having a go at me, i like debate and opinions..
when i was talking about repair, i was trying to point out the getting ripped off point...as you were if a part was repoed and sold on later...
the cranks on the Nat pro is widely used and think i gave a good enough reason for not throwing the maker out there straight away....to be honest, i am fairly new here and thought i might just get comments like
"nice build" ..
it is interesting, will you buy some of De Bruins pedals..repo/retro...i will....and yet the changes are very slight as these cranks i am using although easy to see the difference if you own the originals...
John is the owner of the company and will make alot of parts and if the money makers wanted to make adjustments after purchasing his gear, could then rip you and me off..
I seen Heath try and sell hutch cranks two years ago, and they were copies..and no one went near them..
just remember, your initial statement was getting ripped...

I stand by my initial statement 100%.
Of course Matt's bike is great - never disputed that. The fact that he omitted to mention the cranks thing just made me think, thats all.
I am not a "purist" either - those guys dont go along with rechroming or repainting or anything. I dont think I will be buying anything from John, no, but I'm not making a song and dance about it. Do I believe that those less scrupulous than us could take advantage of the fact that it is easy to grinfd down 4 splines and sell as old school - yes, I believe it is easy, and I suspect that the value of the original pedals will suffer as a result, but thats just my opinion.
So are all the Aussie guys going to chime in here? lol

i stand by my original statement too..
you REPROduced a pair of rear dropouts and restamped them...thats not repair to me...
repair is a weld and dropout fill...
like i said how much of the bike do you replace before its not the bike it was when it was originally sold..
and if i put a set of my original hutch cranks on this bike, then they wouldn,t be nos in box...they would be used
Opinions!!! LOL
