Responding a PM'ed question, the hubs are Sturmey-Archer drum brake hubs, which were the state of the art in the mid-late '80s. Dizz Hicks, the factory CW rider (among others), was a big fan of them. Unlike caliper brakes, they work incredibly well (even if you're 200+ lbs), which is why I put them on this bike. I also have a set of HP-48s and FS-883 caliper brakes for this bike.

I think you mean Ceppie Maes, he used Stormey Archers, Dizz rode traditional coaster brakes. Awesome brakes, I should have gotten those back then, I can only imagine the stopping power.

Neil no ego trip here, like I said if people want to know the real story about the F/F ask Gonzo on Os
it was his. its not like you were assuming that someone went in and resprayed it, Redline did it by mistake.
your making it a bigger deal than it is. why dont you relax and build all the F/F that you have boughten
isnt what this thread is about. What happen to all the the Rl22's, NEil bought them up but he doesnt build them.
its not that I dont want to tell the story it doesnt seem or sound right if I told it plus I dont wanna say one thing and it was another. we all know how stories change by the time the 3rd person tells it

Here's a sort of custom one I'm working on. It was re-powdered before I got it with the stickers on it. Powdered a little too far back, but I like it so I'm not messing with it. I just added the blue squares that I cut out from a sheet of blue vinyl sticker paper and put them over the purple ones. The stripes a the end of the powder too. The yellow and lavender look cool, but it's been done so much because of the sticker set, I just wanted something a little different. I kind of just thought up the idea from the post Brian made asking for ideas on what to do with his chrome one. I thought up one like this, then thought, Hey, I could just do that myself. Anyway here's my start. I've got some blue/Yel B1B's on the way hopefully (just won them on ebay today), and a blue Tuf-Neck power disc also. I have a rotor too, not pictured yet. We'll here's some pix so far. I just started getting it together a few weeks ago, there's still a long way to go.

Yeah, they're the race bars too and I'm sticking with them because I like larger handlebars. I may make them yellow, but we'll see where the project takes me once it comes a little further along.

Thanks guys!!! I have some dark blue Tuff Wheels that go great with it and the dark blue anno stuff, but I'm thinking rims could be the way to go with this one. That idea sounds pretty awesome Chris. WHatever I do, I'll most likely go with some different colors on the parts of the wheels anyway. Chrome rims are awesome, but I thought of maybe even blue Z-rims if the blue is dark enough, gold nipples, chrome spokes, blue hubs? Who knows. Some blue Peregrine mags would be pretty sweet too, if the blue is dark enough. I haven't seen any in a long time in blue, so I don't know. Anyone have a set to post pix up so I could see?
I think those cable guides came on all of them, but some of them had like a slit in them, like as if they were made of 2 smaller rings? Something like that. Maybe they weren't on all of them, but I think they were.

DonV -
Great looking '20II! I love the yellow and blue accents - great color combination but you never see it on a Redline. Beautiful! Cute cat, too.
And you're right about the cable guides near the headtube - they all came with one, and over time there were two styles (just as you described).

Hey Don,
That's a sweet RL20II, I like the blue accents in the decals and the anodized blue parts. It's kind of like RL's Hazard Yellow how he had the stem mach the purple 'squares'.
As far as I know the 85 & 86 RL20II's both had the solid cable guides by the head tube and the 87's had the split cable guide. The 88's however don't have that cable guide.
Pauly, I didn't know that some of the very early 85's didn't have the cable guide, they must have been the fully painted frames with out the chrome rear and forks.
Here's a picture I have of a set of dark blue Peregrines, they used to belong to a friend.

You know - I rarely chime in here to add my 2 cents. I find most of the back and forth he said she said banter here to be quite a waste of time, and childish to boot, but I've gotta set this straight. I'm 100% with Neil on this one with regard to the "STORY" of that candy apple red 22. It almost does seem like you want your ego fed. If you DON'T want to tell the "STORY", why OH WHY even bring it up? If you're going to mention it, tell the story - caugh it up! Don't be so elusive and try to spark some b.s. interest, and then try to direct us to some other website to go on a scavenger hunt! How hard is it for you to contribute the story by copying it and pasting it if you know exactly where it is? Is that not why we are all here? To share these bikes, and their history? You are talking to the top, absolute TOP redline collectors. Our collections would put yours to shame! I also don't think it's appropriate or in any way warranted for you to antagonize Neil (Subwax) about his purchases and builds. What damn business is it of yours anyway what he does with his collection or what anyone does with their collection! We are not the ones on here posting teaser pictures and saying go find the story! I'll watch National Treasure if I want mysteries solved! All that the members asked is for you to share the story, and your responses are elusive and quite frankly bullsh*t! You preach in the end of your speech about how stories change by the time the 3rd person tells it -If that's the case why not tell the story? You want us to go and dig it out, and tell it for you. Should we ride that bike for you too? Sh*t or get off the pot as the saying goes! Setting quite the reputation for yourself so early on - what a shame!

In the 86 catalog wasn't the ukai 48 in chrome with the sealed peregrine chrome hub an option...If I recall correctyl ukai made the rims and peregrine just decaled them as peregrine super pro 48's? Someone clue me in if I've got this wrong.

That may be true about the chrome option, not sure, but super pros are the double walled HP rims. I'm almost positive that those were not available until after 86. The first gen peregrine 48s were single walled UKAI rims.

I also remember seeing other riders bikes with the Super Pros in 86 magazines. Maybe the Super Pros(chrome) came out in mid to late 86. The 86 Redline catalog has chrome plated Peregrines listed as an option although that may not mean they actually were available.

I have a set of NOS chrome Peregrine rims that aren't HP's(double walled). Does anyone know what year these came out? The spoke holes are smooth and not raised like other non-HP's I've seen.
Does anyone know what hubs should go on these? I'd like to put chrome hubs on, maybe chrome Suzue(without the Peregrine stickers).

Are you sure they are chrome double walled HP-48s and not just chrome single walled Peregrine 48s? Chrome double walled HP-48s are what I consider to be "Super Pros".
Somebody set me straight here. When were HP-48s introduced to the market?
