I heard that someone was repro'ing them. I need a load of them, and they are pretty scarce to find.

Anyone that has more than one 86 RL-20 II and wants to spread the love....
I'm looking to trade this 85 Master for a similiar shape 86 RL-20 II. Its build up to factory specs including the Sugino stamped 400s and is all NOS other than the f/f which was restored by C4 and the cranks were rechromed.

Wow. I don't know where I was when this thread started, but I just saw it for the first time right now. Amazing stuff.
Kevin, your black II is totally off the hook, dude! If it didn't get it's own thread, it's never too late.
Don, I love the yellow and purple color combo. Definately chill.
Manilo, that is an exceptionally sweet build. I actually like the look of the race bars, and the fact that they're chrome. Should have it's own thread. That bike is mint.
Sherwoodparkglen...; keep up the good work...you're in the home stretch!

I consider myself very lucky to also have an RL 20II. I want to say that it's an 86. It's red with the gray that fades to the rear dropouts. It also has the one piece cranks with the Redline chain disk. I am sure that it's not the most desireable model, but I cherish it and hope to someday make it as hot as the red one posted on this page....except with white peregrines.....that I had since I was about 12!
oh and it came with an ACS slant stem and rotor. all for a buy it now at $249. I couldn't pass it up.

aluv, That's a great price of $249. It sound like your RL20II is an 88 with the gray paint on the rear. Post some pictures here so we can see it.

thanks, i'll try to get some pics soon. I actually had to think about making the purchase. At the time I had been spending a good deal of money on projects.....I went for a cup of coffee.....thought about it and said, "if it's still there when I get back, it's mine." Well it was. For once the saying, "he who hesitates" didn't apply.

That looks great! It would look better with some nice turquoise cables though.

A black bottom bracket on it would be sweet.

Turquoise cables are on the way, along with chrome Nippons. I will be complete soon, I'm not sure what to do about the BB however.

awesome looking build. i think someone said mine is later than 86. I'm debating on trying to keep it more original or upgrade things. for instance i got it with the acs slant stem and rotor and one piece cranks with the redline chainring. wondering if i should install three pieces and a forklifter.....as for the handlebars....well, we've all seen what they go for! anyway that turquoise build is looking SWEET!

I have since gotten some blue metal flange Tuff II's and yellow Comp Stadium tires. Also I got a blue Kashimax seat and the correct chainwheel that I was looking for. I pretty much just need a seat post, some blue brake pads, some chrome chainring bolts and I want to get my silver Nippons anodized blue. That stuff shouldn't be too hard to get, and I could move some of that stuff over from other bikes, hate to do that though. I'm hoping to get at least the wheels and chain on it pretty soon, then I'll snap some new pix. I'm off work for 4-5 days now so I should have the time for at least that.
Oh yeah, I also switched out the top bearing cup and put a pro rotor on it.

Wow! Even though I am pretty much a Haro guy I went through a phase BITD where all I wanted was a RL20II. Seeing your bike brought me right back to the first time I saw one in person, it was turquise just like yours and I remember being enthralled with the crazy build quality of the frame and fork. It just seemed so....exotic compared to other BMX bikes at the time. The 5 inch head tube, the tapered forks, the twin top tubes wrapping around the headtube. So nice! So nice. Thanks for the memory.

Any reason you did not thread the brake cable through the top tube brace vent hole? I always thought that was a nice touch on an RL20II build, my boy whiteboy Jesse did his that way. Regardless, an excellent look you have there JD

The picture of Todd Anderson's RL20 has the rims with the black stickered hubs. They look like Super Pro's to me. I'll look through my old mahazines and find the other pictures.
Does anyone know when the single walled chrome Peregrines, that I posted the pictures of, came out?
Double Chevron, That picture of RL and the one of Dennis McCoy is from 86. Dennis is one an 86 Master. RL's bike is an 86 with 85 Hazard Yellow decals. RL always had something different.

Hey everybody, my name is Kenny and I just came across this topic after joining up today and I have to say I am blown away by what everyone here has been doing with their rebuilds. I am a former RL 20 II owner and I need some closure on this bike because it was stolen from me when I was 13 and I dont think I have gotten over it yet even though I am 34. I have been wanting to find one for a long time but as you all know they are next to impossible to find for a good price..hopefully someone on here will be able to help me track one down to restore so I will be able to post a rebuild of my own..for now I just have a picture for over 20 years ago of me in Brooklyn on my chrome RL 20 II..Thanks

Cool pic Kenny. I had my bike stolen when I was just about that age too. A pretty much brand new white/black/blue Haro Sport. I'll get another one day. Hope you come across an RL20-II soon, it's fun re-creating an old bike of yours. I did it with a Trick Star and it was awesome watching it come together.
