Hey there...

I'm new to the site and hope someone could answer a few questions. I found my old diamondback silverstreak in my parents garage last week. Wow...it sure brouht back some great memories of riding the neighborhood with my friends. I'm trying to clean it up and ride it with my kids.

Could someone help me indentify the year of the bike? The serial number is 2H1925.

The chrome cleaned up nice with some superfine steel wool...but I'd love some advice on how to clean up the spokes.

Thanks,

Reid
Kurt.
Nice one Reid. Welcome to the site.

The first number (2) gives you the year - 1982.

'82 was the first year for the Silver Streak too. I have the BMX Plus test for that bike if you'd like me to post it.

I suspect you could soak the wheels in Oxalic Acid to clean up the spokes - check out the OA thread pinned to the top of the Tech section.

Great looking bike! Really cool that you still have it and in good shape.

I would have probably done things in reverse. Dipped the frame in oxalic acid and used the steel wool on the spokes. Definitely read the Ted's thread on oxalic acid and the polishing thread as well. Two "must reads" for anyone starting to restore a bike (looks like your about done though).
