I was talking with one of my friends about two weeks ago and I couldn't for the life of me remember this one rider's name.

We were talking about old contests and the first time we saw tricks and stuff. I was saying that the first time I ever saw someone do a tailwhip air on a quarterpipe was at an AFA contest. This kid used to ride for General I believe. He was a bit sketchy.....but he ALWAYS went big!!!! Anyway, all of a sudden he does a tailwhip air.....and everyone was like, "NO WAY!!!!" It wasn't until the next contest that I saw Joe Johnson doing them. So I always kind of thought this guy had invented them. I can't remember his name though. Anyone know who I am talking about?

Chris Rothrock? I don't remember him doing a tailwhip first, but he rode for General about that time and he usually went pretty big.

Was it Rothrock that ran like a 52-16 setup on his bike?

I just came across this video. Watch what Dominguez does at 5:38! This was in 1984. I don't remember ever seeing anyone doing tailwhip airs or flyouts or anything until I saw Roger Sullivan do it....I think it was in 1987 or 1988....not sure. Wow! I guess Dominguez had them both beat by about 3 or 4 years!

There was a sequence in `Plus in about 87 or so with either wilkerson of dominguez landing a tailwhip (feet on the top tube) on the enchanted ramp. I recall it was touted as the first successful attempt recorded on film...

Hey Stuntrider, what part of CT you from? I grew up in meriden/wallingford and have been hoping some of my old riding buddies would eventually turn up here...

Mike D was the first person I ever saw do a tail whip fly out at Upland, but Mitch Collins from FL was the first guy I saw ever do them on vert, during one of my Hutch tours when I was in FL. Woody.

I think it may have been 87 that I saw Roger Sullivan do a tailwhip air at an AFA comp. I know at the next AFA comp after that Joe Johnson had tailwhip airs pretty much dialed.

I am in Shelton. I grew up riding here.....moved to NYC for several years and then moved back here to Shelton. Who did you used to ride with?
Jeff S
Whats REALLY insane about that video of Mike D doing the tailwhip flyout, is that it was in the combi-pool. If I remember correctly, it had something like 4 FEET OF VERT???!!!! I stood at the bottom of it once, and to tell you the truth, I have no idea how those guys could drop in on that, let alone flyout. Insane!

Mike Bell, Greg Williams, Eugene Lee, Jimmy Overly, Lenny Liptak, Rich Frank (although Rich and I never got along), and occasionally Mike and Joe Gonzales. I`m sure I left a couple out, but those were the main cats I rode with.
