Hey guys,
I bought it off the original owner last week. He got it build new in SF in 1976, He's 73 and doesn't really remember the specifications of this bike he got built. All the parts are either chrome or ano'd gold. I'm blasting it next week so i wil really know how bad the rust is on the frame.

Is there a Laguna website with old catalogs? I'm looking for the specific model and type of tubing used for the frrame.

Here are the specs that i can name:
Laguna 26" chrome frame and fork (serial in the 600's) , Tange headset, Tuf neck stem (pat pend.), shimano tourney brakes with some sort of adapter type pads, dura ace cable holders, fluted post, brooks springed saddle, dura ace 175 cranks with sealed BB, Lighting kkt pedals, DID chain, Snimano 18tooth freewheel, Bullseye hubs (thru bolt style), double butted spokes, ukai 26x1.75 rims

Give that thing a bath in OA before you do anything!!!

Sweet bike, I raced one of those back in 1981.

No way the guy bought it in 1976 though, 1980, maybe.

Those look like King Sting forks, defiantly not Laguna forks.

on the top tubes of the frame, the chrome is peeled off and most of the chrome is starting to flake too.

The forks have black plastic caps on the bottom.

Yeah, OA can only do so much on that one...looks like my Powerlite was when I got it---peeling, badly pitted.

Definitely an awesome find, even so. The parts should clean up nice. From that ad, they apparently came white as well. Well, that's also how my P'Lite ended up!

Nice score!

What is OA?

I have the same bike in white - owned it since '82 and in the process of fixing it up, including new powder coat in black with blue rims, bars, crankset, etc.

Thanks - this is a great site for finding everything I'm looking for to restore some old bmx cruisers I have.

For the bike on this thread (and mine), it's not clear to me yet whether the paint should be carefully stripped off first and then dipped in the OA, or just put into the bath first.

Monster-Robot
It's not necessary to strip the paint. The OA will not hurt it.

You can get all of the info you need from the first four or five pages of the OA thread.

I read the entire 21-page OA thread yesterday and today...I plan to repaint/powdercoat once the rust is removed so I guess the question is really whether to do this before or after the OA bath? The old paint will have to come off eventually.

Thanks
