I remember seeing loads of riders in the very early 80's with the coolest wheel covers for racing, they came in different colors and most were translusen uh,,translucsen...uhhh see through! I never did see them in the catalogs, or local shops so I dont know who used to make them. Does anyone have any of these old gems on a retro build, or some good pics? I would love to find something to put on a cruiser Im building... I have seen the solid white ones from the department store bikes, they just dont do it for me....

Ah, wheel covers. They were cool till you got airborne on a windy day. I have a pic of me with clear ones in the 1976 Suzuki Bmx thread farther below.

UNI made some I have a set of white 20" ones that have not been installed. But 1 is cracked so I don't think they ever will get used sad.gif

<<<<< see pix. the only reason that I ran them is cause I got a little something on the side...

If you look close at my picture you can see mine, it was made by Uni. I just ran it because it seemed like the cool thing to do. Windy days were not fun!!

yeah, a crosswind at the right moment would be bad news.,, have any of you made a set of your own, wonder what material would work. I thought of trimming down a set from a road bike, but they just dont show up on the auction site, unless Im using the wrong keyword....

Ah yes. I remember getting my set of UNI wheel covers and excitedly putting them on. Road around with them for a whole week until race day where I found out that a windy day over the step up jump at Howard County Md was not the place to have a front wheel cover. wacko.gif
