Mel Stoutsenberger is one of the all-time old-timers... not only could he ride a BMX bike... he tested some of the earliest BMX designs and pioneered the "ramper" 26" off-road bike with modified Redline or Roger Decoster forks with his friends... worked for Skip Hess packing up the first "goose in a box" complete bikes... a job that Rick Twomey got for him... oh, yeah, and he rode for the Rick's Bike Shop team with JP and Thom Lund and David Clinton (check out the tube slide pics with DC, Thom and JP... he still has one of his original Mongoose frames... with a freakin' loooooowwww serial number...

Those things alone would make him someone you would want to meet and get to know... but the best part of all... he is a GREAT photographer and he took pictures of EVERYTHING... recording it all from tube sliding to racing at all the old tracks... and he KEPT THE PICS!!!

Thank goodness for guys like Mel... smile.gif

Those were some INCREDIBLE photos!! Thanks for posting those Shannon. And Thanks to Mel, if he's the one that took all those photos!! I can't believe how many great shots were in that slideshow. I especially enjoyed the shot of #29 (John P. maybe??) with the craziest gate jump I've ever seen!! HaHa...good stuff.
