What is the deal with this situation? I haven't visited for a while, but when I saw this stuff pop up, I got on the sites and not much discussion here, a little elsewhere...is there something more to this before I make a rash decision on how to help out?

info (he wasn't aware of the situation, is now) has been posted on os by folks who have spoken directly with the man. i would think that if harry wants to disclose the rest of the story (if there is one) he will do so.

I saw the stuff too. I won't bid out of respect and not knowing the story.
U-Haul storage did an auction of my stuff after a payment got lost in the mail. The next months payment was sent back to me w/ a letter stating all my stuff had been auctioned off. This was back in the mid 90s.
I'm still fuming over that one and wish nothing but ill will toward U-Haul and all it's employees.

I bid on the JMC pants this weekend with just that thought in mind, Juan (lost the bid by 2.47)!
Hopefully, people who are mindful of the history will get this stuff and not just some punk arse speculator who just wants to ring the register.

Maybe he is just getting rid of a bunch of stuff. Sometimes the most simple answer is the right answer. Harry is a great guy and a warrior. If he is having issues he will conquer those just like he has everything else in life. From where I sit, it doesn't look like he is having any kind of crisis, just selling a few things on ebay. Lots of people do that.

I tried to get the seller to join us for an interview so we could ask him about the auctions. Here was his reply:

Good Morning, I am happy that your user are interested in my auctioins as I have quiet a bit more to list, however I am not interested in any interview about my business, because of the nature of my business, I have been in business for over 20 years and this type of publicity does not help my sales it actually hurts them. So thanks for the interest and offer but I am going to Decline.

Can't say I'm not surprised that he declined. That was a heads-up move though Mike, nice try to get him on here. Would have been interesting interview.

you gotta wonder how often he gets pseudo-famous stuff. probably not real often unless he seeks it out which I doubt.
i had a friend that ran apartment buildings. we were always getting cool stuff from the defaulted rentals.
best item i ever got was a fullblown jon boat/duck boat including trailer. even got it relicensed into my name with no trouble. sold it for about 5 times what i paid him for it.

I can speak from first hand knowledge about Storage Unit Auctions. They are true Diamonds in the Ruff!!!
When I got out of the Navy back on '06 I did not know what i wanted to do for a career and allways liked going to swap meets selling stuff and going to auctions. Went to a Police Auction to score some killer BMX bikes and while there talked to a guy who did the whole Storage Unit thing also. THATS ALL HE DOES FOR A LIVING!!
I bought a 10x5 Storage Unit for $35 that was so packed full of bicycles it was sickening. When I pulled all the stuff out I had over 90 bikes and an unreal ammount of parts to go with it. I kept the good and took the rest to the local swap meet and sold complete bikes to kids for $5. My wife still does it and lets just say I don't need to pay for her lifestyle anymore! She mostly goes after units with Kids stuff since she knows how to instantly price stuff in her head for that stuff like i do with bikes. But she has brought home some killer bikes for me also. She scored an entire 10x20 unit full of Lennox Glass, all in their box's. Had to have been from a store that closed and they just went defunct on the Storage unit. To this day she made over 6 g's from 1 unit and we still have like 5 3x3 box's full of stuff toi still sell.
So to answer your question... This guy makes a great living!!!

I bid 100 bucks on the 3 plates. one of them I did 125. that's as far as I'll go but it'll also let me see the final price on my ebay.
this would have been a good one to do the guess the final price games.... maybe on the next storage unit auction.
You out there Stu? Could you please forget a payment or three so as we can stay entertained?

considering Juan just posted a similar want ad for race stuff I'm guessing he'll nab 75% of the stash, which at least will put it in safe hands.
My guess on the blue 2 plate is that it will hit 425. but i'm tempted to say $620.....
