Good Lord - the man who built the bike that spawned a cult! Damn cool.
Mike - GREAT pics. In the shot of you on The Bike, downing your beer, with another hazard yellow bike over your shoulder you look like a man about to rape and pillage...(lol). Very fun.

I left the bike industry in '88 and just started getting back into it about a year ago, Yes I am amazed to see it again..
I built a lot of bikes for a lot of people all over the world during my time at the Source, I even had little stickers made that said "hand built by Steve Blackey". I put them on most of the bikes I built even R.L.'s and Mike Buff's.
It would be cool to find a survivor bike with that sticker still on it.

Hey Guys,
It's Matt. Yeah, Mike and I got together at my place for a few days of drinkin and ridin late at night, and tinkering around with my bikes. If you guys want to get together sometime, that would be great. If anyone wants to come over here, and have a BBQ, and see RL's bike, and the rest of my bikes, that's fine with me. We can cook up some burgers and dogs on the grille. Sorry I hadn't chimed in until now on the thread...just crazy busy with work. I would love to show you guys some pictures of my bikes on here, but I don't know how to post any pictures on here. Maybe Mike can help me with that...I've never posted a pic....MIKE??? Help a brother out...least you can do for riding RL's bike! I'm pretty jammed up for the next couple weeks with work, and some construction going on here at the house (annapolis maryland), but if anyone wants to get together for an afternoon, let's work on some dates. I know Mike will want to get down here as well. Maybe sometime in the last two weeks in June? Anyone? If that doesn't work, anytime after the 4th of July weekend will work as well.

thanks guys. in the first picture, where you see them in a U shape, the first two red ones are restored, with almost all nos parts. the third red is original cali red, and NOS, the first yellow 22 is restored with almost all nos parts. the haz yellow rl-20 is NOS, the radberry 22 is NOS, then rl'b bike, and then the next two turquioise's, the 22 and 20 are also both NOS. I also have several nos 22 frames/forks that are nos but not pictured.

May 16 2008, 06:13 PM
No doubt that is a nice riding bike. Way better with spokes than mags.

Hey Caleb,
Nice to hear from you again pal. Yes, I actually have plans for those red peregrines for another nos cali red 22 frame/fork set that I have that is not built up, and not pictured. I've been saving those for that build. I just have to get those mags looking minty mint first. Been putting off that elbow grease for quite some time, mostly because I just haven't had the time b/c of working on my house. But, I will get around to it very soon. I will also post pictures of that build once it's complete. I'll keep you posted.
Looks like K-Dog, and Incheck could make the 5th or 6th. Mike, if you can make it down for the weekend of the 4th, that may work.

Matt,
I'll let you know if I can make it. It would be real nice to get together with a few guys who are into all this stuff. However, you may have to let me ride that crappy yellow bike again since I don't have a rider built yet.

Have to disagree with you about the wheel setup, that bike screams for yellow Peregrines.

May 17 2008, 10:51 AM
I'm saying how it actually feels (felt) when it is ridden. Tighter feeling and faster- spokes. Slower, not crisp-mags. I guess I just feel that way about all of them. Not how it looks.....
You gotta remember I probably rode it more than RL did since he was always getting something different.
frontguard
May 17 2008, 11:53 AM
Hey Jeff,
I agree with you about how the bike felt and rode with 48's. I have always preferred the bikes the way they look with mags, but for riding, the 48's always felt the best. Lighter, tighter, and just felt more balanced. Mike and I have since changed the way that nos rl-20 looks. We put the black panaracers on it, and changed the stem to the original chrome one instead of the haz yellow, and a couple other minor things to bring it back to it's "stock" days. It looks much much sharper now.
Mike, did you take any pictures of the haz yellow 20 after we finished it? If you did, post a picture of it here. I don't know how to do it. And let me know about the 4th if you have it figured out yet. If you can't make it that weekend, we can all try to shoot for a weekend or so after that so that we can all get together here, even if it's just 4-5 of us.
Matt
Caleb,
I've also been looking for a TRP post. If anyone has one, please let me know. It's the only thing I need on RL's bike that is missing. Wish I had one of those.
