Alot of us were unseperable as kids. I met my best friend Rockne when I was 11 yrs old. I'm 43 now. We rode every day together during the late 70's and early 80's. Rockne's kid brother Rolland was with us alot as well as close friends Buddy Ikeda and Eric Phillipart.

Rockne became the winningest BMXer in Hawaii and held the no.1 plate for 2yrs in a row. We both raced in 14 and 15x and competition got in the way of our friendship at times. We even got into a fist fight in the middle of a race. But, as best friends do it was quickly forgotten and freindship prevailed.

In our adult lives Rockne got married and I was honored to be his best man. When I graduated from recruit class in the Fire Dept. Rockne pinned my badge on my uniform during the ceremony. So we shared alot of things together as adults.

But, sometimes life gets in the way and we had a falling out and lost touch for about 5 or 6 years. I also hadn't seen his brother Rolland from probably about 85ish. Buddy Ikeda and Eric phillipart went to College and now live successful lives in the mainland. But, BMX brought us all back together again and we ride weekly!

For me thats what BMX is about the friendships and memories we make! Just thought I would share these two pics.

Us as kids on our blue Team Gooses: L to R Rolland No. 536, Rockne No. 8, Me no. 668

Us this last Sunday: L to R Rockne on his childhood Supergoose, Me on a Team Jag, Rolland on his childhood Team Goose, Jason Chang on a Formula Cruiser and Jay on a NS bike

Great story and excellent before/after photos! I'm glad someone in your life had a camera as you have a great collection of photos!

Now that is a great story! Your story amazingly is something that brings us all together and that we can clearly understand the emotion tied to it. What a great sport that brings us all together...

Oh yeah...that is the stuff that matters.

Even after I moved down here, I still talk to pretty much all my high school buds, and see most of them once a year around Rockford time...some friendships are indeed forever.

Great that you're all riding again too!
