A lot of us have been aching for a more "local" flavored Chicago BMX get together...so we're pulling the trigger!
***SAVE THE DATE***
Sunday, June 29, 11AM-Dusk
Who: Anyone who raced or rode in the Chicago-Area or was sponsored by a Chicago-based team (so Welcome to Hoosiers, Hawkeyes, Michiganders, et al.).
Location: TBA but in the Oakbrook/Elmhurst Area (Easy access to 290, 294, 88, 355)
Food: Barbecue pit will be in effect. Burgers, Brats, Dogs and other common fare provided by VintageBMX.com There will be a "DIY Grill" if you want to bring a slab of bison for personal consumption. Bring a side, a vintage signature creation or a dessert for the group.
Drink: (Depends on the venue, but adult beverages are a priority)
Cost: Free (but feel free to renew your
Site Supporter status to help the overall VBMX cause).
Bring the family! (we'll set up some games for the kiddies and maybe a BMX-wife tire drag race or something)
**GET THE WORD OUT**
Break out your phone books, email lists and other com devices, and let's get ALL the Chicago-area community out there--including people who are not regular VBMX visitors. Someone you know is in touch with the old crowd...so ring 'em up.
More details to be announced in the coming week or so, but wanted to get this up on the board so you can save the date, and comment on any ideas of events, and other fun.
Look forward to seeing you all there.
Best,
M

Well since I didn't race nor grow up around here,(L.A. Transplant) I guess that rules me out.

Nah... Come ahead! Guess it was kind of pointless for me to phrase it that way, as there's no way we're turning away a fellow Vintage bro (tried to cover myself there with the "et al." but...).

I have a spot in mind for this event. The village of Berkeley has a park right on the Prairie path. They have a car show there once a year.So it has plenty of room for a bike show. There are some dirt trails near by and just down the path in Elmhurst is a small skate park.I can call the village and see if we would need a permit and what is and isn't allowed in the park.AL

I called the Berkeley park district and June 29th is taken. The only other dates available are July 6th and 20th and August 10th.He told me the permits go quick.Like the first day of January. The guy I talked to said it is a public park and we could still have a show but no permit means no alcohol. There are a couple of spots in Elmhurst that might work.I plan on calling them next.Let me know what you think or someone else has some place in mind.

Thanks for the legwork, Al. Give Elmhurst a try and if we strike out there, we can try forest preserve of DuPage. If all else fails, I guess we could look at moving the date (but as a last resort).
Best,

Mike, this may be a little further south of where you were planning but Planefield has a new bike skills area in one of their new parks just off I55 on rt126. Could show those MTB guys how to get it done.

Plainfield is a bit too far south. I'd say 355 is the "outer marker."
I'll get in to it today and see what I can scare up.
Thanks for all your help and recommendations!

OK Gang, Sorry I have been silent on this for the past week or so. But we have progress!!
I am signing the papers for the location on Saturday, but just to let y'all know that things are coming together.
The location will be in Elmhurst, close to Butterfield and York roads (close to 290, 294 and 88).
Date is still set for June 29 and the time will be Noonish - 7PM (with a potential after party at a secret location close by).
The event will still be free, however I am going to set up an Eventbrite page so everyone can formally RSVP. In order to guard against day-of no-shows, you will be asked to make a $20 deposit on Eventbrite, which you will get back, in full, when you show up. The venue is costing us $300 for the day, plus $100 cleaning fee which, as the host/sponsor, I am happy to pick up. But to pay that, and then buy food for 50 (or more) and then 20 show up...well, I'm sure you understand.
Please advise if this is cool with you all so we can move forward with getting this party started.
Best,
M

The location is the Yorkfield Civic Center (basically a neighborhood association clubhouse, with the same look & feel of a VFW). We bring our own food & drink (alcohol is permitted, but "responsibly" as told by the caretaker of the venue).
It is about a mile off 294, for those coming form Wisco or Indiana, a mile or so off 290 and 88 (for those coming from the city or points West).
I have a map that I am going to scan, along with the official address. By Monday, I will get the Eventbrite page up for RSVPs.
This is going to be great! Already have a few peeps thinking about flying in, and lots of others who have never made it out to a Vintage event before (some of whom are not even online), so you're going to see some new old faces and some familiar old faces! I'm doing up a postcard (for distribution at Rockford and local tracks), as well as a PDF you can pass around by email.
Thanks to all!
Best,
M

Here is the map to the location. You can use Mapquest or Google Maps to get from where you are to the general area, but BE ADVISED, that some of the mapping services have this location on the WEST side of York road, when, in fact, it is on the EAST side of York Road.

The physical address of the location is as follows:
Yorkfield Civic Center
15W354 Lexington Ave
Elmhurst, IL 60126
Day-of phone: (630) 530-9035
It goes without saying we encourage you to bring out your bikes and stuff in a "show & shine" format (no competition at this one, unless you guys want to organize some kind of "100% payback" situation).
Burgers, Dogs, Brats and some other special edibles will be provided by Vintage BMX, as well as soft drinks and a keg of something good. Please bring a side dish, salad or dessert to share. There will be a "DIY" grill for those wanting to bring Veggie burgers, or a 72oz "Big Texan-style" Steak for personal consumption. Should you not be a beer (wo)man, feel free to bring your own drinkable (personally, I am more of a wino, so there will be some cab and/or zin in the house for general use).

P.S. Again, the $20 Eventbrite fee is FULLY REFUNDABLE (except for the .99¢ Eventbrite fee) when you check in at the event. It is only in place to prevent day-of no-shows. When you check in, we'll give you $20 and a wristband (and up to two others for family or friends joining you). That will get you Food & Drink.

OK, Gang... We're getting down to the wire here...So if you are putting off the inevitable and have not yet RSVP'd for the Sunday Chicago BMA and Freestyle reunion, now's the time to, as the prophet said, Make it Happen!
Registration will be suspended tomorrow at 5PM Central time to permit proper time for me to shop for food and drink, and make other preparations. The event is RAIN OR SHINE, as we have a nice indoor space which is available to us in all eventualities.
Right now weather calls for "scattered storms" but a nice comfy 70 degrees...so one way or the other, we're gonna have us some fun!
Post here with any questions, or PM me.
