looking around in a box yesterday I came across these

My old NBL license the date on the bottom one is 1983 and the top one is 1989, I raced from 1980 - 1988 not sure what happened to the 81-82-84-85 maybe they will turn up one day

Do you still have Your NBL ABA NBA or any racing license from BITD ?

I coulda swore they made us turn ours in after we got 10 wins in beginner /novice .They would paper punch ours after a 1-3 trophy .
I dont have any..
Jsea73
I do remember something about the paper punch in the early days, but i don't remember having to turn them in, I had to get a new card when I turned expert I do remember that,,when I raced beginner Derby City didn't require us to have an NBL Liscense, that was 1981

My first NBL # was something like 27614 or 27014 I don't remember but my parents signed me up as James Sears and I hated being called James so sometime in late 1983 I signed up as Joey so I received a new number 67173, I ran the # 14s in the early days then I had to race # 73s sarting in 1984 that first card says it expires in 85 so it must be from 84 and not 83 so that may be the reason I'm missing the early cards they had James on em so I probably tossed em

Ohhh do I remember that time shortly followed by a phone call going something like this....

"Mr. Edwards can you please come and pick me up at DTW because Bob just took my license away" Those were the good times for sure. Not to mention you spent New Years Eve with your best pal errrr the love of your life at the time <cough>

I don't know where my old license is but i do know when I started back 3 or 4 years ago the NBL allowed me to take my original number. I always get a chuckle at the moto board when I see my old number lined up with anyone else that races today.

Haven't found many that are lower in count.

Here's mine, my oldest anyway.

Click to view attachmentOK OK Its not BMX but I declare "PARLAY" anything pre 1980 is all good! I was more skate than bmx bitd. this is my skatepark ID. Ride on was in Newark ,CA. I used to skate there on a G&S fiberflex with Bennett pros and yo-yo's. all the old skool skaters came thru at one time or another This was also the first place I saw bikes on vert. I dont remember the names but the bmx dudes were the craziest!!! They would ride up the freeway (880) jump the fence ,cause the park didnt allow bikes, then go off until they heard police sirens .we would always let them bum rush the bowls cause we knew the managers would be callin cops and trying to grab bikes!!so heres to all you bmxers that rode Red Devil till dark then mobbed the skatepark at night.....

I skated Newark once, gnarly coping on the not quite vert pool. I have my Winchester, Campbell, and Milpitas cards but the only BMX card I have is a USBA one.
Jeff V
I think this is all of them...except for my current one.

Will the NBL still let you get your old # back ???
gaijin
as long as you can still remember your number. Both my 20 and cruiser #s are the same as they were in 83, and both have lapsed several times.

Oh, Shingle. Love the Club Homeboy card.
dsmith
Bob Poffinbarger
hey Shinglehead, it's funny that all the ABA cards are plastics except your last pro card. I don't have any of my cards but I still have the envelope from my last NBL card from '86. NBL #72. people would tease me and ask if I was "The Fringe" being 6'7 and 270. I'd say no, I live in Indiana not Illinois.
jerry a hutcher
Funny how paperwork becomes collectable too..Mine is long gone as with my trophies, and im regrettin it...I have a few items floting around somewhare....

That is too Funny Rod because that is where i found Mine in a nylon velgro wallet at my parents and it had a few BMX business cards in it also, one from our local bike shop okolona schwinn, one from dans comp when he used to come to Louisville local races with just a small trailer full of parts and Yvonne from Free Agent's business card
Bob Poffinbarger
so Rod, it looks like you were transplanted from Indiana to Georia? were you born and raised in Indy? I'm from N.W. Indiana by Shinglehead.
Gregtnorcal
Here a few of the cards I had save .I also have a NBL and NBA cards but this is one of 3 pages in a photo album of mine. Also did anyone save their invitation to the ABA Gold cups or ABA state Champion certificate I had those too.

Adam we must have raced eachother because i jist found my Norwalk Bikers license and my b-day is 12-16-64 which means we were racin the ten yr old class ! Thats way cool will post mine on here shortly .
Racer
Wow a 1975 bmx license. Holy cow that has to be one of the oldest left , period.
Mark the NBA changed names to NBMXA to avoid a lawsuit with the NBA (National Basketball Association).

BTW Mark, Colorado was huge in NBA. You were in District D (Denver) and there was also a District P (Peublo). P was the first district. Off the top of my head, only CO and CA had more then one district.

Randy...resist! Don't let her do it. If you need me to intervene in her intervention, let me know. LOL

I know this is not all of my licenses, but it covers most of the basics. I also have the same one as Adam, but is a little worn. smile.gif

This next one is cool with the race shot as background.
