Long time no see butch !

Now I wish I would have done the conversion at the old school race. I just don't want to go buy a membership to race there 2-4 times this winter. I guess I'll hit RAy's more. It's actually a little closer than Dayton.

But, we'll see. I may get the itch in January and Feb! LOL

Steve, stumpy, chris, billy, what kind of bike are you guys riding? year, brand, size [xl/pro] 20'' or cruiser 24''/26''. I'v been looking just woundering. thanks
maverick
I'll be riding my 24 dk cruiser.
Chris C.
I'll be on my 24" SE Floval Flyer.
timmyd
do they have a pro or xl cruiser? or are they all standard. like to know a year, old, mid, new school. 5'11'' 190lbs have my eye on an 88' cycle craft 24
maverick
my dk is an 07 model year. It's a pro cruiser with a tt of 21.5-22. Some companies make a pro cuiser and an xl pro cruiser. I'm 5'11 and 200lbs best bet is to ride some bikes and see what feels comfortable to you. If you are going up to Ray's tomorrow just ask for me and I'll let you take some laps on it.

I didn't get a single picture from Rays. There were some people who took pictures and I would love to find out who they were. Someone got a great picture of me and Justin Travis going over the Red Bull box jump side by side.

The name protour77 comes from another message board I belong to. I have a Pro Touring 1977 Camaro that I have owned since I turned 16. Its my other hobby. I use that screen name everywhere I go because its easy for me to remember.

I am not going to Dayton this weekend but I will be in Morristown the week after.

Any of you guys wanting a taste of the big time races will have another shot at akron and hopefully a regional too near ohio..

you didnt mention scott fahnstalk, the hines bros, scott mcmahon im sure you knew these guys too.Think both the scotts were from parkersburgh?
timmyd
just wanted to post something to keep this post going, why does minnesota 1980s have so much to talk about? i think OHIO should be the same
steve smith
Still seeing oldschool faces at most every race i go to.
When i was at morristown as i was leaving [wish he woulda came up sooner]a guy asked me "you may not remember me but i used to race ,my name is dave bennet"
Heck yeah dave we all remember ya ..told him to check in i was just talking bout him.
He said he was in contact qwith crazy eddie some ,and taked to doni hier too -he said donnies doing tile work now .
Dave said he lives in tn some and ohio and plans to come to the buckeye national in feb..Hope to see more of youall there too.
Chris C.
I talked to Doni a bit at the Akron Black Cat Chilli race a month or so ago. He was there and it was his son's first race. He asked alot of questions about cruisers and I gave him this website.
protour77
Doni Hier was at Akron for the Chili Classic helping his son get started racing. He was wearing a hardwood and flooring company shirt. Something like Heir flooring or something, but I talked to him for a bit as did Chris Cline and he was already asking about the classes for our age group. So i would look for him next year!! good2.gif

Funny, My mom said the same thing when I told her I saw him there!!!! LOL laugh.gif

The funny thing is I used to wear a neon shirt when I raced because he did. huh.gif

I raced at the "Superbowl of BMX" in Toledo. I will look around to see if I have anything from it. What are you trying to find out?? I remember that race very well, they raffled off like 5 hutch's and I won one. Made the whole weekend since I raced like poop poop poop, I say again, poop!

interesting how this website edits swear words. I did not use the word poop in my version.
jwahl
The "superbowl of BMX" was one of the worst tracks I ever raced!!! It was in between x-mas and new years. I lived in Toledo and I remember being so excited that there was going to be a national right in my home town. When they brought in the dirt it was frozen and as it thawed it turned to soup....it was awful!!

Someone had the great idea to try to freeze the water in the dirt by turning on the ice rink under the track. I think it started to work a little but if you rode off the track into the infield there was no dirt and it was just frosty cement. I'm sure more than one person wrecked hard when they rode off the track. hahaha.

by the way...
I think the rider behind the hutch rider above is Rodney Freeman from Milan MI

Damon theres 2 guys in here that prolly have every issue of every bmx mag .
johnny ringo[i asked him bout some results awhile back and he never responded -and Oldtimer1980s
Im sure if you tell oldtimer1980s the date and ask him very nicely hell find your results .Mine from orlando in 85 were only covered in super bmx and freestyle and only showed top3 so i didnt get to see who finished behind me but i know andy golibic and joe spurer beat me at age 12 in 13 under cruiser [i thought i may even beat brad birdwell for the 1st and only time but may never know ?]
steve smith
The thread is starting to get dormant i think everone may have turned thier email notifacation off lol.
I know im a big mouth on here but im excited about bmx again.
Is there anyone considering racing the buckeye or akron national this year that came to the oldschool race ?
Wildman says hes going to try and come to the feb buckeye race [its been 2 years since he came home]It may be pricey to race a national but 75 % of us would be in the same 20' or cruiser class anyway just wont be so oldschool.
Any event ,if anyone wants to participate in a night out [dinner catching up like some of us did at the os race let me know]
All you old farts have a great christmas !
chazbo473
Steve, has anyone tried contacting the NBL to see if they would let us run an OS race maybe during one of the breaks or something? They may be for it as long as it doesnt interfere with the national.

I just found this site. Its so coool the see all the old names and places. I remember going to races all over Ohio.
I saw one mentioned the dust bowl at the madison track, I was there. Matt Ling was injured at the North park trackby Pittsburgh and never fully recovered from that. Does any one remember Stormin Norman ?
