I started racing in Ft. Hamilton in the summer of 79... Let me look through my "archives" and see if I can find any old pics from back then...
I also started at Ft. Hamilton in 79, it nice too see that its still around. I'l love to see some old pics of "the pit" do any of you remember this? The pit was were the current parking lot is, it was a huge hole where i think the first dirt came from to build the track; anyway if you were not racing on the track you were riding or watching others ride the pit, there were several fly out type jumps, and it was fun back then.

Jrad,
I TOTALLY remember "The Pit"... That was my favorite part of going to Ft. Hamilton. There were a few guys who were getting some pretty massive air "for 1979" and then landing on FLAT ground. I saw more than a few broken frames and pancaked rims from the pit!
Wasn't there was also a dog racing (Whippet??) track behind the pit?

Here's some old Delco pictures from March/April of 82 I found. I only raced for one season. I ran track and played in a couple Baseball leagues too. BMX was some extra stuff we tried to fit in. Wish we had been a little more involved.

My bro getting a slow start,

but everything turned out good! No one around heading to the finish. He passed away in 93' in a motorcycle accident.

Me on a Sunday cruise in with another Victory! Those where some good times. I see Doug from K&G under the tent.

Check out GM plant behind in the picture.

The Team

Another team photo. We where sponsored by Radar Security.
I remember Brookville and the second turn. Everyone going down. LOL! I only raced at those two tracks. Still have all the trophies in a box.

I'm the one in the middle in front of the Van. My name is Jim Arnold and my bro was Chris Arnold he was on the left and are friend Kyle Geralds on the right. I would have been 11 and my bro was 10 at the time and Kyle was 11 too. Thanks for the comments. I just recently dug out all my brother and me's awards to show my son and ran across them. My son is seven and we go out to Delco regularly. I think he could have a bright future at it. He's going to be a big rider. He's already about 4' 6" and 95lbs. Like big Stu. My dad didn't care too much for BMX so it had to take a back seat to the other sports. I'm going to let my son get a little more involved. He and I just started riding around the track again in May of this year. I still try to tool around a little. LOL! Sounds like you had a radical crash Steve!

Theres several pictures i couldnt upload last night cause theres a bandwidth limit on vintages site .You can only upload a few pictures to vintage at a time directly .With photobucket you can upload around 15 -20 looks like at a time and then you have to wait a few posts .
Just go to the photobucket and view them all .If i see a vintage member ill post thier pics ,otherwise ill update the link each time .
http://s79.photobucket.com/albums/j142/zuk1972/?start=0Btw ,i remember like it was yesterday when hutch picked up TODD i was so jealous !Hutch was the epitome of factory rides .He really did the colors justice at his first big race at columbus for them with all that jumping he did that year [the can can photo was awesome too]
I remember his green pro racer 20' at hilliard right after they picked him up.
If someone told me 27 years ago id be racing and all these old photos and friends would be in a lil box called a pc .....Who knew? These pics were just amazing .
Next years old school race will be awesome !

My brother Tom, dad Tom and myself (Mike) were long time Whitman's riders. Around 1986, I raced for World Class Racing out of Florida and then for TNT after turning pro.
Hint on the picture: #2 is Tom Kiniyalocts from the 1982 Ohio NBL State Finals

How many can you ID?

Not 100% sure, but I'll take a guess:
#5 - Butch Thurman ?
#9 - Brad Lyons ?
Who is #1? I though it may be one of the Picaioni's, but I don't think so; this guy was from the Columbus area right?
What track was this shot at?
maverick
Oct 21 2008, 08:41 PM
I'm thinking #1 is Marty Brown but I'm not 100% sure.
Have to agree w/Jrad that #9 is Brad because of the UA shorts
I'm thinking the track is West Jeff but I could be wrong
Jradical
Oct 21 2008, 08:49 PM
Yes that's Marty, I remember his dad running the gate.
I forgot to mention that #2 is ELVIS!

It took me a second to figure it out but I raced against Marty's little brother but never knew his real name since everyone always called him Jbird.

I have never seen that picture before of all of the original Christmas Classic sponsors of 1986... I remember posing for the picture.
That statue is one of my favorite gifts that I have gotten for sponsoring a national.
I can't believe I wore that shirt! what was I thinking! I am second from the left.
I remember Charlie from DK (who was one of my Crit Plate distributors at the time) asked me if I wanted to be one of the inaugural sponsors of that race along with Bob and Kay Echo (RIP Bob) DK, and Cyclecraft...

This is when Ohio NBL passed the pres cup torch to national NBL. That's Bob Bruns (Ohio ABA) shaking Bob Tedesco's hand! Years later B.B. took the Dayton area NBL tracks over to the ABA. Not so sure they would shake hands today?
