Just so everyone can find me, I will be driving a black Chevy Tahoe with a Vintage BMX sticker and a Dale Jr. sticker in the back window. I will be there with my wife Vanessa and 2 girls. We will also have our little puppy too. I ride a Redline flight and wear red Fly gear. I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday.

Brian, I am trying to get there around noon, so maybe we can pit together.

Should be fun!

Good Luck to everyone tomorrow during the old school race. Really wish I could make it but the almighty dollar comes first.
BMX TEACHER
Thank you Todd for donating the frames, thank you Steve for setting up the race, and thanks to Bob for letting us race. It was really nice to meet you guys. It really was an old school race with the rain. Hope everyone got home OK, see ya all next time. Tommy P.S. Thanks for letting me win.

Heres a teaser til i get home from work tomarrow [i gotta go into work in a few hours ]brian wick has some video as well as me .....Old school riders class main ....

And winner of the old bike class tommy merryman congrads tommy

Very special thanks to todd lyons for the awesome gifts you guys need to remember him and pm him thanks since he couldnt attend.
protour77
I just got home too. Thank you Steve for putting this thing together, I had a blast. I accomplished my 3 goals of the day, Jump the first step up, Jump the doubles in the second straight and make the main. My hand is a cool shade of purple and green and should really feel awesome by morning but it worth it, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Maybe next year we can race on a day thats not blistering hot followed by a downpour!! LOL

It was really cool being on the gate with you guys. I am a few years younger than some of you and you guys were the ones I looked up to as a kid so it was an honor to get in the gate with you all these years latter.

Thanks again, and I will let everyone know when I get the video up.

Brian Wick, #5 in Steves pictures

What an incredible day, eventhough I did end up sliding safely into the first turn in the old guy semi. The main in the old bike class was a lot of fun. Tommy gets the "I showed the greatest disregard for the most significant piece of BMX history" for the day by racing that JMC cruiser in the mud.

It really was great to see so many people again. There have been a lot of great things happen in my life, but those 80's era BMX years were easily some of the best. My 20 year high school reunion is in two weeks, and I am not nearly as excited about it as I was this weekend.

My only regret is that by racing both classes, I didn't get the time to talk to some of you longer.

Steve, my sincere thanks to you for going through all the work and coordination to put this together. And to Todd for donating the bikes.

I can't wait to see more of the pictures and videos from the day!

Never Posted a pic, so hope this works!

Wow! That's all I can say. That was well worth the drive and the crash in the first turn. If you missed it, then you missed it. Big Nard on the mic. All I can say is don't miss the next one. Thanks Steve and Kettering Bmx. ps. MIKE K. still has it!
protour77
Who was the guy there that was taking pictures that is a profesional photographer? or at least had a profesional camara. I saw him at different areas of the track during the race getting some great shots. I would love to see some of them. Sorry I didn't get his name.

I'd love the mud too, if I was carrying a new PK Ripper out of there.

Instead, I have a pile of mud-caked pants, jersery, gloves, elbow pads, and helmet from that first semi. LOL.

Everything I brought down there is covered in Mud and was dripping water when I got home. I unloaded everthing in the garage in a big pile and get to deal with it today when I get home.

My hand, elbow, and shoulder are really sore today from my fall in the 2nd round, but it was well worth it.

Looks like you did a great job putting on the Ohio reunion, and thanks a bunch for coming down to our reunion here in louisville back in June, I only wish I could have made it up there to be at the ohio gathering,

Ohio had a ton of great riders and being from Ky we were always finding ways to make trips up there to race, It looks like some of the guys may have caught the ole BMX Bug again, so maybe next year we can do a Ohio/Ky gathering/old guys race. maybe a points type deal with a reunion race in Ohio or Ky in June, then the same thing in July and have a Championship race sometime in August and give away # plates, Maybe add in Another State, 1 day of racing on 1 weekend a month, it would be like going to nationals again but not spending all the time and money, and having some fun, we could do it during the local races at whatever track will have us,

1 day of racing 1 weekend a month, hell that is like being in the Army reserves, maybe we can get a law passed your work has to let you off to do this no questions asked,

Hope to see plenty of pics,

Did you give away the 86 Memphis DVD's ?

Joey Sears
C. Allen

I have some Great Memories racing in Ohio. I raced out of Pa so I only went to Ohio for the nationals or the indoor track during the winter.
Did anyone race the 1984 Columbus MidWest Championship? I was looking at of my pictures the other day from that race and saw some of the Whitmans race team in the pics you all were talking about. That was one cold race. I remember those huge heaters they had throughout the track. We would all pile in a train of cars and vans (South Park BMXers )and head to most those big Ohio races.

Man that was fun even without hitting the track! Seeing all you guys again (including some of your parents and some of your kids) was truely enjoyable. I kinda knew that BMX made us all better people but I had no idea as a teenager that our 80's bond would be so strong. Staying in touch with you guys is mandatory, we had such fun back then and hope this event makes it possible for many of us to stay in contact! Big THANKS to Steve Smith for putting it together and Todd Lyons for the sweeeeet frames even tho' I can't win watching! Next year I'll breakout the Kuwahara cruiser since Eddie Nelson was bustin' my and Lumpy's chops for not racing! LOL I will send some of you PM's to get your info and hope you all had as much fun as I did! Thanks again! Nate

P.S. How about J-Rad winning the first moto with style(Heli before the 2nd turn)! LOL

P.S.S. Mike K always had maad speed and even more class!

Do you have Nbl 1987 Akron,Ohio national on Dvd or Vhs would like to purchase a copy Pm me give a price . Thanks Billythekid

Thanks to whoever shot those videos and for posting them. Great stuff!! The mud crash ended being blocked out by someone who jumped in front of the camera.

I'd really love to know if anyone has any footage with me, particularly with anything where I jumped the doubles. THat was a blast! I had the '86 Team Ohio jersey on.

I still haven't even looked at cleaning the bikes, but I need to get the cruiser ready for a trip to Ohio Dreams this weekend.

protour77
I have great footage of every gate of us old guys. The big mud pile up in the semi is classic. We look more like the 3 stooges than racers!! LOL. I will get them up in a day or two. I have to figure out how to download them off the camara.

Chris you will really like my footage. Your wife and son were with my wife while she was recording and you can hear them cheering for you. Its really cool.

I will have them up as soon as I can.

Steve,
Thanks for everything and I am glad that everyone pushed me to get on the gate and race. Hopefully next time I can get some more girls to race. It was very intimidating being on the gate with all you great racers.

Hey everyone.. It was awesome to see and get to talk with such great people and friends! First off thanks Steve for such a great time it was like Chris said better than my 20yr high school reunion! It sucked the rain came down at the end so hard and we didn't get to talk after the race! We def. have to keep this going and in contact with each other! Hopefully we wont wait a whole year to see each other again. I'm waiting till tomorrow to feel the whole effects of the sorness I know is coming..lol (rvh_1@msn.com)

rvh...

Todd you'll have to make it out next time!!

Definately a HUGE thanks to Steve Smith, Bob and Anna Bruns, Todd Lyons and all attendees!

It didn't seem like there was enough time to catch up with everyone. Next time, we need to plan more social time!

Thanks for posting the pics & footy....It was a super fun time and great seeing everyone, I really enjoyed hearing Big Nard on the mic again. Special thanks to Brian B. & Billy J. for flying in for this. Thank you Steve for making it happen.
Chris C.
Open those videos and close your eyes . . . talk about an audible trip back in time. Big Nard on the mic, names like Mike K, Nelson, Heisler, Raflic. Very cool.

Oh, Brian, can't wait to see Vanessa's video. I hear my son in one of the vidoes the Greek shot. That's one thing I never heard in the 80s, my son yelling in the background of a BMX video. LOL.

Seriously, it was so very cool to have my wife and son there to experience why I still love this sport. Seeing how we reacted to well so each other after all this time really gave her some insight into how much this meant to most of us.

great videos I'm glad my crash isn't in them (visually) it can be heard. I'd be lying if I said I didn't still feel it. It was still worth it!

Looks like everyone had a good time with this race. Really wish I could have made to that event.

Steve-big thanks to you for putting this event on and hopefully next time this gathering goes on I won't have a last minute business trip. Just a thought, Heer Park is hold their state series race Sept 13-14 could be another possible get together. Might even be able to put on a race after the state race. Just a thought as I sit in my hotel room here in Northern Maine.

Dont forget ,now your #1 your going to have a target on your back sarcastic_hand.gif Your going to have to run the plate ,and bring it back next year for the winner.

That was my sister videoing for me .She knew 90% but was afraid to talk to most of you.
The thanks really needs to go to youall ,for that short time i felt like i went straight back to 1985.
I wish i had more time to talk with you all i had my son and he demands alot of attention/time.
I was shocked/very happy to see michelle dean, dawn conn, terry lee these few were a complete surprize i didnt know they were coming.

When i saw mikey crash in practice i thought o god what have i done [im very glad youall are ok]
Seeing chris cline passing every race, eddie nelson stealing the win on the outside line, lining up with billy jones after 20 years, shaking big nards hand and seeing reliving all the memories [even at applebees] sure put a smile on my face .You all were very fast and did better then i thought i did on my first race back.
Jrad your still smoothe and fast, eddie you surprized me not lost any skill, chris cline you underestimate yourself i was impressed ,ric hiesler man your one fast skinny dude.
Mike did you notice the video i posted on the racing section with your name ?There were 50 views within a few hours[maybe some in here are worried you may march a comeback] -your a gifted man and i know how hard your class was bitd and how hard you worked to get what you did in bmx .I think the only thing youve lost is a few pounds over the years..

Jack you are the man ,im glad your dad came out to see you tear it up..congrads

Billy jones/todd lyons :
On the next one ill help $ to get you here i think it should be set on a date both you and todd lyons can attend .
Also i think a picnic or banquet after /before the race or seperate would be better too for catching up.
Mike Kiniyalocts
After almost 18 years off the track and a total knee reconstruction, I really did feel pretty good out there. (Excluding the crash in practice) wacko2.gif

Who's up for doing it again next weekend in Louisville? wink.gif

The track actually belongs to my stepdad. My name is Chris Allman, and I spent alot of time there growing up. So much so that's how my mom ended up getting re-married, with my involvement in racing she started to volunteer and met Tom who owned the property and ran the track. Yes the track is there, unfortunatly it's under about 3' of grass/weeds. The property is for sale with or with out the track. smile.gif

It's been awhile since I've seen Mike, but I'm sure the last time I did the tail was long gone.
[/quote

Is this really the one and only Chris Allman???!!! I just happened to be fishing around on the internet looking for some old bmx info and happen to come across this site. It brings back some wild memories to say the least. It feels like it was yesterday. Anyway, this is Rob Damron if you haven't figured out already. I virtually lived at Phase IV for most my teen years helping ole Tom Jones and his wild family out with the track (Jemima and Clyde). I raked alot of rocks off that track in my day. That track was basically my baby and I didn't do to bad on it. My most vivid memory is beating Billy Au once!! We were a scrappy bunch of racers, not like most of the guys on this site, but we could mix it up with the best of them. Certainly know all the names of guys on here and raced with most of them even though they probably don't know my name. By the way, I'd love to get ahold of Mike Reddy if anyone has his info in Arizona. Him and I went to school together and hung out alot back in our day. Chris, I hope all is well and tell Tom and you Mom that I said hello. Just starting to get back into this thing with my kids and have been hanging out at Heer Park lately. Went over and had a good practice the other day.

The ABA Dayton Indoor on 16 Edmond St. Dayton, OH .. Its been there for yrs... old pepsi warehouse.. They have practice there every tues/ thurs day if theres a race the sunday before.. its just a great way to keep your skills or improve them to stay ready for the next spring summer.. there always a good turn out, because indoor tracks are far.. ussually theres dayton (aba), indy indoor (nbl), Steel wheels (aba), and not sure if they do it again this yr. but columbus area (nbl).. but practice is ussually $10 on tuesday, and if you come back on thursday its only $5.. but races are $15, but i ussually take the certificate instead of trophy, they add up after awhile.. Im working on a Practice pass for Bob at the indoor, see if he'll bit on it.. If you buy your practices upfront.. then you might save up to $80- $180 for racers with families. Still woking on the numbers for Bob, but Ill let everyone know whatsup with it...
