I didn't die! Steve Brooks dominated me. I did have both tires off the ground at the same time (on purpose), and landed back on them as well . Akron is just to long for my old tired legs. Sunday rained out again. Long drive for you Chris. The sun came out and it got nice out. The 2nd straight still would have sucked. Good talking with you guys anyway.

Any of you Ohio guys remember a guy named Van May? He raced in the mid 70s-early 80s? I'm 90% sure he was from Ohio. He came up to race in the PA State Championship race in 1980 16x and I barely beat him in the Main.
yes.how could i forget van may,,i grew up going to races with him,,the guy was FAST,,UNDERSTATMENT,here is the only picture of him i have att the jox jag bmx words in indy,,we both lived in a tiny little farm town on the ohio pa line, are local tracks were north & south park,,where at north park i got struck by lightning while balancing on the gate for a 17 exper 32nd semi,,everyone thought i died,,but i actually made the 17 cruiser main that day and crashed out in turn 1,,,remember how long the straights were at north park,,ok check this out, here are a list of riders from hubbard oh,off the top of my head,,van may,j.d. lind, mark blackburn, dan lewis, rodney hallapy, jeff heckard, mike petrosky,i know im forgetting some, but we had a lot of good riders from are little town,,

Didn't know that Bob knew what a computer was- hope you have good weather for all of your races comming up Bob. What do you think about this O-S Race we're going to have during the State race in Kettering? Oh ya, Congrats on getting the RC finals this year. Hope to see you there. Tommy Meryman

Remind me again on how this is going to work . .

Then what?
Should be fun watching someone else win the prizes. LOL!

I remember ol gary itll be good to see him too.
Havent heard from matt on the kuwahara frame yet so.....
How about i put up BOTH se frames 1 for each class? The pk for the riders class
The quadangle for the vintage bike class.
BTW
Todd told me i could keep the quad if i liked it ,its a judgement call and a1/2 to make .What would you guys do?
So there it is 2 bikes one for each class.I was in nashville over the weekend and had a friend give the bruns the fliers to pass out -they said from what i heard does he know this is during the state race ?I told bob it would be 2 motos not a grands type event

Steve,
I like having a frame for each class winner. Heck I might race in both motos just to get embarrassed twice. If Todd is cool with you keeping them both and giving them out, that is great. If not, that's fine too. It's just for fun and Todd and you have been very cool setting it up.
Just for the record, is it one moto for each class. Meaning, is it one lap and done? Winner takes it. Or will we run 3 qualifing motos and have a main for each of the classes?

It will be a automatic main like any other aba race .The main winners will get the prizes.3 motos each moto takes winner +/- depending on rider count transfer to main.
No- Todd told me from jumpstreet when he said he would send the ripper after the quad was sent mistakenly if i wanted the quad for "myself" to keep it

I had some thoughts of actually getting out on my bike to get in some form of race shape, but after further review, I decided that I would more than likely end up hurting myself in training, so I will be the squirrely at the back! Looking forward to seeing everyone...
Steve, you did all the work on this one, so if you want one of the bikes, get out there and win it!
#1 Most of us do not expect to have any chance of actually winning (see first paragraph - reason for not training) #2 The bikes are a VERY cool bonus, BUT most importantly this is a chance for us old BMXers to get together and catch up

Cna anyone tell me how long the first straight is, and how long the entire track in? If I recall the whole track is about 1000 feet long. Which means I can make it half way before needing an Ox refill. Will there be a pit stop in the second corner for this? One month to go, excitement is building.

I heard there will be a nurses station at the halfway point with oxygen and small beds to rest on. Maybe Steve should add a manditory pitstop like they do in NASCAR.

Yeah im sure bob will make everyone buy a gay-b-a lisc. they do have a 30 day version but big bird talked me outta it when i started.I think the 30 day is 30.00.If you have a current nbl the aba is honoring them and giving you a aba til the nbl expires.Again this info is on thier state race flyer so you need to be forcefull. They said to my friend does he know its during the state final [the flyer is j- rads pic on the the events page in here]they must think 300 peoples coming ...i was in crashville this weekend so i couldnt take them and explain to them but ive talked to bob several times about this he was cool.
The first straight is maybe 150 ft at most .The track is no longer then hilliard back in the day if it is not much more .The starting gate is very steep and boosts you so you wont have to get winded til the second straight.Gear up and save your lungs with this starting hill.None of the jumps are hard bob knocks them down any time the aba /help builds them up.
I think ill just watch im going to grands the week after i dont need no headhunters getting funny trying to win a frame
And yes i can believe after all these years mikey handing all of us our rears ...

Steve, thanks for the info about the length of the track. It always seems to me that racks are getting longer. Maybe its just me getting older and lungs getting smaller.
I believe the Day/Date for the race is Sunday Aug. 24. If not, I asked for the wrong day off. I just hope its not 100deg. in the shade that day. Kettering has been known to be very hot in the past. Have to bring a chest full of ice, just to cool off after each moto.

I wan't steve to race! You can have both frames if you get them to waive the aba licence. This is an opportunity to bring people back into the sport with kids. Not just any people. The people that made Ohio BMX the best place to race in the country. If people in charge can't see that, then stupid is why the sport isn't what is was then. common sence, Not so common! Steve call and conferm that info. Please! I'll be there and I'll buy anyone who can't afford it. After all the 4 hour drive with gas prices won't stop me from seeing you guys, nor will the rediculous aba license keep me from playing around in the dirt just one more time! Next time pick Columbus (more central) i'm just kidding. Steve, at least coast off the gate with us. You've earned that. I'll pay for that as well.

Just sent this email to anna :
Hey anna ,
I ok'ed the old school race with bob and been planning it since dayton indoor[about 4 months]
I planned it on the final at kettering to attract more riders to the state race to build the rider /moto count for dayton.I expect there should be at least 15-20 riders .Some want to race vintage bikes the others want to race current bikes thats why 2 classes .
They have been worried about your flier saying that you accept nbl and that when they show up you may not im wanting to confirm this. Many have never raced aba and havent raced nbl in over 15 years .They would want a 30 day lisc. due to no northern aba tracks up near akron. If you would get back with me asap so i can relay the info on to them so they can plan the trip with thier familys ...
Some of the names might ring a bell....
Kiniyalocts,heisler,nelson,raflik,carnes,cline,boring,merryman,werderman etc

its not down hill fast ,anna /bob have the fliers in hand -bob was ok with the 2 classes ,and at the final.Bob and i have talked about it recently as a month ago i told him i was making a flier he said to send it to annas email so she could pass them out .I made my own copys at work and hamilton, brookville, and ketterings got them .
The only issue should be the 30 day lisc .
Anna held my sons app. for a race or 2 instead of me buying a 30 day for him cause its 30 more from a upgrade or something silly if you decide to get a full lisc.
What im thinking could cause beef is them saying 30 day lisc is for people who have never raced in thier life ....but idk

I raced quite a bit in Ohio in the 70's and 80's... My all time favorite downhill track was in Minerva Ohio at a motocross track called Dusty Trails. We hit there in 1976 on the FMF-NBA Tour and I had to design and build a track the day before the National. It was the narliest fastest track in my moldy old memory banks.. It ended up being nearly a mile long, starting at the top of the MX track's first up hill.. We came bombing down it at 50MPH plus only to funnel down into a single line 3' high berm at the bottom! If you missed it or overshot it, we brought flowers to the funeral!
JU, Bob Hadley, Byron Friday, PK, Flyin Pat Ryan, Dan Loftus, Ted Gillmette, and our rag tag team of Bezerko BMXers attacked and destroyed the competition that day... We had a blast!
I'll try to find a few pics from that day.. maybe soem of the guys mentioned will post some too!

My riding buddy from the 80's; Steve Paul told me about a race that was held in the mid 70's at the Sugercreek ski hill in Bellbrook OH. (near Dayton). He said they raced down the hill and it had wood jumps!

The other cats such as chris cline can get a aba on a voucher til his current nbl runs out .Greg boring may have to try and snake a trial since you had a aba within a few years doubt you can get a full aba off your nbl ....
