One more week until the Old School Festival. So who all is coming? They got some killer awards and prizes to hand out. You don't want to miss this event.

If I can get back from PA. soon enough, I'll bring the old 80's Cruiser that Mike and Tiffany used to race.

I just left Mike's house and saw all the goodies! Tons of cool things for give aways and raffle items. I am not sure all the sponsors, but once I know them, they certainly deserve a big thanks for their support.

I do know Todd Lyons helped out in a big way from SE. Looks like DK made a big contribution too. And, if I am not mistake, the Bike Doctor was a big donor too.

Just a few days and it should be fun. Now, we just need to weather to hold off.
Jradical
I'm gonna try to make it on Saturday; hope to see some old friends & make new ones! smile.gif

This is for the guys (and gals) that came out on sat. for the BMX festival (even tho we had rain), thanks for a good time. I met some new freinds and had seen a few old ones, and Mike thanks for the raffle for Stephen Murray 'Stay Strong'. We all need to help get the word out there about Ohio '80s BMX racing so we can have a huge turnout for the next gathering. Thanks again for the Bike (Stay Strong raffle) and memories, I'll see you all again...

Tony,
I'd love to see that photo. The next BMX reunion need lots of old photos from everybody. It seems like most everybody has some so it'd be good to have a time to show them all.

So...did you paint the Echo helmets w/ the #1 Whitmans on the sides?

Pick up the newest edition of Columbus Alive (or check it out on line)

The local free entertainment paper came to Heer Park Sunday and did a nice article on BMX. They interviewed Mike Schroeder and Allen Godfrey, took some pics, and did a decent job promoting the sport locally. Yours truly even got a nice pic on the table of contents page. I'll have to scan and post.

Two pics from Ft. Hamilton spring 1980 I believe?
1. Turn 1, first time racing w/ my new Webco #04R, any idea who else in in this shot? My school friend Mark Hayes is taking the high line on his Mongoose Blue & White hockey jersey.
2. The Peddlers Shop boys getting rad in practice; looks like Orvan Armstrong in the air and Brian Jones is looking back watching.

Wow, Mike, the bike looks amazing.

Wow, Mike, the bike looks amazing.
Reddy1947

Chris,
Thanks, the thing that is amazing to me about it is how many memories and riding experiences it brings back all the time. I have not been on new school race bikes and I had not ridden in years until this spring so it may be different for most people. Amazing describes the experience for me very well.

Akron is having their national this weekend, are any old school guys going to come out and check it out?
DAGGETT43
Hey Everybody , Was curious if anyone remembered any of these names from Whitmans , Bruce Brockert ( I think he went on to race for Factory Huffy during the Pro Lightning days ) Tom Stover , He was from the Richmond , In. area. How about the Sparks family , I just picked up a set of Veras leathers and Jersey from the Sparks girl who went by Lil Sparks. She said she raced from the late 70's to the mid 80's . I'll try an post a pic of the jersey, I think it is the 1st gen of outfits for Whitmans but not 100% sure. I remembered these from 80-81.Click to view attachmentClick to view attachment
Jradical
Wow that is super cool! Yep, that is the 1st gen Whitman's uniform, wish I still had mine. I do have my Whitmans Veras helmet bag, matches the Jersey. I remember the Brockert family well, they took me to several races, I remember Stover & Sparks also.

Dagget43....whats your story, did you race back then?

Hey Jradical , I started racing in 1981 at Rose City BMX. I never raced a whole lot of different places. Mostly just 3 or 4 local tracks . I raced from 81-85 and probably wanted to race 5 years earlier than that when watching the exhibition race at the Pontiac Silverdome Supercross years earlier. I think I talked to you at the old school show in Columbus , I was the guy with the sidehack and a few other bikes and you told me about the helmet bag. Is the Brockert's still around ? I've tried to track Stover down and never can find him . I remember Stover riding that Early Hutch and His Whitman uniform and just thinking Damn that guy is cool . ( kinda like Todd off of BEAVIS & BUTTHEAD )
