I think I am going to have my oldest daughter race my old bike from back then. I can't wait to see that. I will be one proud dad. sun_bespectacled.gif

How did this fall all the way to page 5?!

There were a number of 80s Ohio guys/lady in Warsaw, IN this weekend doing some racing. Great track and facility.

Chris,
I think you are traveling as much now as you used to in the 80's!

Mike, I am enjoying every minute of it!

Selling my Standard cruiser, however, as I have fallen in love with my 26" bike and have been racing it.

Yeah, you don't need any more points. Plus you have enough nationals in already but don't need any regionals.

lol..Im getting closer to the top especially from last year .I had some good races with some really fast guys last year but couldnt get close in chase cause i only raced 8 races .Theres a guy in our class that had hit nearly 20 natls by march of this year .I get no $ help sponsorship wise im just a old man but theres only so many close races and i need to hit them if i wanna do well .I missed indys regional with a fractured shoulder last dec many of the ohio guys raced there and dont need to hit the race coming up.Id l;ike a serious shot at a top 5# Dont know if that will happen will see
I had some personal goals i wanted to achieve this year and i have came close .I was very close to quitting after fracturing my elbow 8 weeks ago im glad i went to warsaw last weekend and raced .My son told me he was thru several times but he decided to race the national too .Maybe some of you guys will make the trip to akrons national or even the nbl grands in ky this year .
Chris C.
I hear where you are coming from Steve. It sure would be fun and rewarding to get a great national plate. I just continue to remind myself why I am doing this today - fun. I love racing, hitting bigger races, seeing how I stack up against the best in the country, and even making some mains at nationals. But, I know I don't have the time to train, money/time to travel, or really just the natural talent to compete at that level. And, if I tried to force some of that all together, I am fearful the fun would dry up and that I could get hurt.

With that, I'll race the nationals that sound fun and that I can get to and realize I will never be much more than a top 25 national rider if I even get the Grands in the next few years.
schroed
Ive been working on some killer trophies for the event.I might let out a sneak peak when the time is closer.

Just a reminder"NO NBL LICENSE REQUIRED"

This is hopefully gonna be a big fun event.
I think Shawn Mcgovern has a great idea to have the event in different places every year.

Hope to see everyone at the track.Bring your whole family. We plan on making it fun for everyone.

Thats too bad about Steve not being able to make it. I also didn't check with the calander, that is Indy week for NASCAR, and my wife goes every year for the weekend. I am not going to be able to make any races/events that weekend. Got to stay home and take care of the family. I was really looking forward to going. See you all some other time. Tommy

OK,
When posted before, I never could figure out this track.
I'm told that #4 is Jason McNutt on a Black Shadow at Marietta track. That makes sense now.

This sux .Tl says he cant make it this year oct was his only time avail. and even then is iffy .Hopefully next year we can make it even bigger .I like the heer park track they wanted me to help with imput etc .i was waiting on todds word on when he could make it .I was also bummed pretty bad and had sour taste about bmx for a month or so with my fractured elbow .Ive spent alot of $ this year try to hit more nat.s and hate to not give it a full effort if i get hurt again this could be my last try .
Sounds like ba ,donny hier ,and some others we havent seen in forever will be there i hope you guys are all doing well and definatly plan on seeing you next year or at the akron national . sad.gif
BMX TEACHER
Steve, are you planning on going to Waterford Oaks National, July 4th weekend? My Doctor says I should be able to race by then. He doesn't know I'm riding around the yard already. Understand the injuries, you have to do what you started out to do. See ya soon. I'll be at WO Sat July 4. Hopefully you'll be able to make it. Don't know if I'll be up to speed by then, but 40-44 cruiser class will have me to contend with. Tommy

Yeah i been wanting/planning on trying to go to waterford .So far so good .I think you can win that race tommy id like to witness it .

Crab, I am not 100% sure but I don't think its a Golobek bro(Wayne and Andy). I am in that pic and I believe Wayne was older than me and Andy was younger than me. Wayne and I might have had some overlap with our birthdays. I also do not remember him wearing that uniform.
McNutt is the only only one I recognize.

HEY GUYS AND LADIES,
I JUST FOUND THIS FORUM TODAY AND DON'T KNOW IF ANYONE IS STILL ACTIVE ON IT. ANYWAYS DOUG JICHA AND I RACED TOGETHER FOR YEARS, WAY BACK WHEN WE RACED FOR EDDY'S BIKE SHOP AND BEFORE THAT. WE RACED AT AKRON AND BEFORE THAT AT STOW. JUST A LITTLE FYI HE DID PASS AWAY ABOUT 14 YRS AGO. HE WAS IN JAX BEACH FL. WITH DENISE AND HIS DOG ROXY, I USED TO VISIT HIM EVERY YEAR DOWN THERE FOR VACATION. READING ALL THOS NAME BROUGHT BACK SO MANY MEMORIES, IT IS GOOD TO HEAR ALL OF THEM, ANYWAYS THANKS FOR THE MEMEORIES- NORM

Anyone here race in Ohio back in the day during the 80's? Check in!

I raced from 82-87.

Anyone remember Lagonda in Springfield? How big and fast the Kettering Delco track used to be? How Brookville BMX was one of the first tracks in the nation to have a paved first berm? Remember the huge turn-out that we used to have at the Hilliard Indoor track?

A few names from back in the day: Nate Cheever (ran into him last year, he's doing good), Chad Lumpkin, the Danishek's (Bill and Niki), Billy Jones, Ted Jackson (ran into him last year, he's a police detective now), Dave Bordewich (sp?), Chuck Fugate, Doug Jicha, Jared Raflick, Steve Smith (he's on here now) etc, etc.

80's Ohio guys check in!

I am putting my '85 PK Ripper together for the old school event. Had the Free Agent last year. Neither is getting raced. After spending so much time on my 26", I am sure I'd end up on my head racing a 20".
Chris C.
You have to come to this event on 7/25! Mike showed me the awards for the 30+ flat pedal open class. He had custom made number plates for the event to commemorate it. Each person in the main will get one of these limited edition plates and the number on the plate is your finish in the main. Killer looking and way cool!
Todd Lyons
Have fun @ the race everyone! Hopefully I can make it out next year.

Wish I could make this event but I've got to replace some national finishes and only have next weekend to get them in before the grands.
