Jd lind was from ohio or somewhere close to the tri state .He rode for dk.
Jd finney was from tx or oklahoma .I believe that jd finney had a better record of wins and was more of a aba rider .i got them confused as well .But thinking back i remember racing jd at hilliard in 83,and 84.I think he quit sometime around 84 or 85.
Cant really see him in the photo but someone id'd jd lind in this superbowl bmx photo [dk rider #3]

Hey Steve,

I hope your having a great weekend?
I was looking at the picture you posted, the one someone told you that JD Lind was the #3 DK rider.
JD was a pretty big guy-if you remember he was a lot bigger than most of us. The #3 rider looks way to small to be JD. Actually, the only one who looks like JD to me in that Photo is one of the two guys standing on right-look at the guy on the left side of the Two guys standing on the right-doesn't that kind of look like JD? What do you think?
I also don't remember JD racing for DK-was that early in his career-in my 83 Grands photo, at that time he's racing for Factory Schwinn.

Take Care,
Craig Allen

yea how bout memphis in 83 and the fort wayne national my plate was 41 or 41a I ran for whitmans traveling team

Hey Russ-
What class did you race in?
I know I definitely raced a lot of the Whitmans team.
I remember especially in the winters at Columbus-The Mid-West Championship and the Christmas Invitational.
The Whitmans team colors-weren't they blue and white or red white and blue?

Yup ,raced all those cept hampton ,raleigh, and howell.

Hello Again Steve,

It's funny you say "cept Hampton, Raleigh" because that was precisely the Nationals I thought I found you in.

For those who went to the Hampton and Raleigh Nationals Memorial Day Weekend 1983 probably remember how hectic it was. As soon as the Raleigh National ended everyone scurried to the Hampton National but the racing definitely didn't end in Raleigh that day-it ended in Hampton.
There were miles of Motorhomes, Campers and Vans all strapped and filled with Factory teams and their bikes racing one another to the Hampton Race. The trip between the two Nationals became a National of it's own-I dubbed it "The Motorhome National".
I haven't seen anything like it since and I know I never will.

Also Steve-I know that a lot of the pictures I have of you was before you tore up our class and on your way to your National #1 and #2 plates-so if these older pictures don't interest you much I completely understand.
I've always thought it was pretty cool when you find someone you raced and they have pictures of you that you never knew existed. Just as you did for me.

Take Care,
Craig Allen

Hello All-
I had a question for who ever can answer it.

I asked in a earlier post if JD lind was from OHIO because I was trying to figure out who I was racing in my pictures from the Grands. I might be getting JD Lind and JD Finney mixed up.

My pictures I was looking at was either the 1983 Grand Nationals or the Murray World Cup. We finished 1 and 2 in the mains and I don't know which JD it was.
Does anyone know which JD had the #12 national plate and raced Factory Schwinn in 83'.

Craig Allen

Jd lind i believe did race for dk and thats all i remember him on ...If you look at the superbowl pic [its aba as well so the # is prolly district #3 ] you can see the dk emblems on the edge of his red helmet ...
Im def interested in any photos ...craig even when im gettin smoked

Those that crab posted are pre 81 looking [allmost 70s ?] i wore a schwinn jersey like crabs photos til late 83 .
The whitman was moslty black with a lil orange til 84 then orange and white after 84 ..
The ones from raliegh and hampton could [most likely be mike lausman] as i didnt ride whitmans til 84 or todd lyons possibly?

Hey Steve-
I'm all in the mustard and can't ketchup.
Ok-your right. After the mains my Dad took a picture of JD and I together-since we had been racing all day. Even though he's wearing a Factory Schwinn shirt there is a DK sticker on his #12 National plate. So you were right.

By the way-I don't have any pictures of you getting smoked. Even in your earlier racing years you were fast and rarely got smoked. Hopefully I can get these pictures posted soon.

Crab-
great pictures-thanks for posting them for us. Are you in any of the pictures-if so what's your plate #.

Take Care,
Craig

Last Saturday I spotted Matt Ling sporting his hutch all tricked out with Jax Hubs and Misc. Parts, Practicing at Akron. The workboots added a special touch. Great to see him again. I told him about the thread. Hope he jumps on board. I'm taking my boys to Dayton this weekend. I'm having fun watching them and practicing a few laps. I Saw Ken Au 2 weeks ago. He gave me BA's number. I need to call and get him in the groove.

Hey Eddie,

I got a random text message from Billy about a month ago. He didn't know that I had moved to Phoenix and wanted to meet up for some dirtbikin'. Anyway, I told him about the site so that maybe he would chime in with some stories but he seems to be pretty busy. Maybe you'll have better luck!!

Hope to see everyone on the 25th (or whenever) this summer!!

P.S. I think that I can get Smallwood to offer up $50 again if I can beat M. Kiniyalocts so I hope he's there...LOL...I tried last summer but got SMOKED everytime!!

P.S.S. Smallwood's got a band called The Garrison, been playing around Columbus so keep an eye/ear open!

Later, Boneau

I sent Billy Au a text message last night. Hope we can reconnect with him. My parents saw his parents this weekend, but I didn't think enough ahead to have them mention it.

Someway or another, we'll keep spreading the word.

I posted this over on BMX Museum also. Looks like Ed Nelson added it to Facebook. LEt's make this event as big as possible - the more of us from the 80s, the better!

Chris,
I'm going to try to get my old 24" cruiser there.

If you could get your Chevy there too you could start a "Car Show" in the parking lot to go with everything else that's going on the 25th.

It was a little like Old Home week at Ohio Dreams this weekend for the state race.

In addition to the old school guys currently racing (Boring, Wick, me, Schroeder, Riggle, Hill, Miller, I know there were more but it's not even 5am yet), Ed Nelson and Doni Hier where there with their kids who race. Sunday morning, Billy Au showed up and hung out for a while. Then Ken and Rosie and my parents came to watch and they hung for a while. I almost felt like asking my dad and Ken to change my gear between motos just for old times.

We all need to get out and hit this old school festival at Heer Park. It's great catching up with everyone.

Our Parents were just as much a part of the scene as we were. Great to see them. Looking forward to the old school race. All you closet readers (you know who you are) You better dust off you old heaps or borrow one and show up. It's not about winning. Its about getting elbow to elbow one more time just for fun. Some guys have came back and are fast (Chris Cline w/ two 1sts this weekend) some are just racing for fun, and others like me are happy watching the kids fall in love whith the sport that you all made great. I enjoy the practice laps and the old faces I see. I hope you guys make it out to ride around with us again in Columbus. So many names I'd like to see. So try to bring someone and make it better than last year. No NBL Licence Required so don't start making excusses.
