Steve - the ad was Indy Troy said. Yeah, the El Camino was mine biggrin.gif

Donnie Hier- His family used to come down to the river a bunch. Last I heard Donnie was in some trouble, been 10 years or so, not sure now.

Someone telling stories about Lisa? wink.gif

borntooloose
And Jim Hill?
Vonderahe
I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable. Its actually funny. Tom must have thought a lot of me to be telling stories 4 years later. Tom and Mike were both adorable, not to mention fast. I had to really think about it but the motorhome was a nasty place and I know at least that part isn't correct.
borntooloose
Is that the same Lisa Vonderahe that race 12 or 13 novice at Burbank indoor against the boys?
I have video of her

Todd you must be very proud of your son i hope my boy gets good and keeps intrest in the sport starting at age 5 im hoping hell be good !
Lisa wasnt your racing shirt [your name or something green?] i remember seeing you race before i got on whitmans in 84 i remember your brother too but i thought he was younger then me?Wasnt his name dru?

His name is still Drew and I have an older brother his name is Jay Vonderahe. They both raced for Wizard for awhile. I never had a green jersey but I used to have a favorite t shirt that had green sleeves and on it in green lettering said "I boogied at bogie". I haven't thought about that in forever.

maybe it was. I raced my first race at Bogie Downs in April of 1980? That was a great track. Marc "scooter" Steimer's parents ran it. A couple of pages ago someone mentioned Aaron Hido's brother but couldn't remember his name... Its Todd Hido and he's famous now.

That really is excellent information about Todd Hido. I also went on to art school and now work in insurance. It's great to see that he stick with it and is making it doing what he loves.

Wow Steve, I've been watching this thread for a couple of days...cool stuff.

Hey, those were some great compliments a couple pages back about being a clean rider....You know I'm riding for Dans Comp...right? You know these days we are "the dirtiest team ever" if you read the new school section. hahaha BMX breeds drama...nothing ever changes!!!

These are some great memories in here...I remember lots of the people who have already posted and I still see some of them at the races. As far as a reunion goes...It's too bad Akron doesn't have a race this year. There's always Louisville....

I remember the hapner name.
I remembered a guy that hung out with barnhardt last night and i cant remember it now he looked like a young robert blake[beretta] and talked kinda italian too ill remember it later.
Doni rode for dk til -air shot im guessing 86?Then went on to titan and quit around 88?Dont think he turned pro but if he did i guess he didnt do well cause he couldnt do his patented corvette lane change him and barry mac had it down in hilliard !
Ill ask bob about the state finals and when /where they will be ,rumor is the gold cup will be at kettering too.Im guessing 1 of the state races will be at ft hamilton this year since the aba/bob picked them up this year too.Im going to stop in and see if i can get big nard involved on this thread asap
louisville bmx has the dvd i bought one from him its well worth the $ i dont have a burner and he spent the $ to sell some on here if he cant hook you up i might be able to in the future when i get a burner [i hate to step on his feet he bought his burner to make my copy]

I got Jim Wahls name in there a lil late but i did remember a few posts back...Hes prolly the pride of ohio racing all these years and still being as good as he is [i can think of another wildman with less bmx races]Way to go jim !PS jims in joeys dvd fightin with billy au in memphis 86!

Steve

I need to quit messing around on the computer and Get that other copy of that DVD out too ya, I have no problem of you making, selling or sharing copies your not stepping on my toes, its just cool too still have that footage around to make into a DVD, I was watching my moto's on that DVD and was wondering why I was riding like I was scared or something, then My dad reminded me that I had sprained my ankle playing basketball 2 days before memphis and that is the reason I'm not riding very well, so when you get the rest of the footage and see my moto's dont make fun of me too much,,,,,,thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it LOL...

Jim, not sure you and I ever raced a bunch, but I just started racing again after a very long lay off and thought it was excellent to see you were still out here and having success.

I just moved up from Novice to Expert after some success in 35-40 novice at the INdy regional. So, perhaps we'll get to race and I can get a lesson from you!

Jim, I think you are right about the age thing.

I do plan on making it to Waterford. It will be my first national as an expert. I also race (rather, fill motos) on cruiser as well.

Man, great thread. Thanks so much to all for checking in.....a lot of great names in here that have jogged my memory.

Frankly I don't think most of you would remember me. Back when I raced my parents did no support my racing AT ALL and never took me to races (well, maybe once or twice). Most of the time the only way I made it to races was if Chuck Fugate's mom or sister took me along with them. I had to pay for all of my own parts and races. If I did more than 8-10 races a year I would be suprised. By the time I quit I was an expert but frankly I wouldn't say I was a competitive expert. I'd say I was a decent begginer and novice, but by the time I turned expert at 15 the class was stacked here in Ohio. I was moto-filler most of the time, but I did get lucky every once in awhile and do OK.

After I left BMX I went to college, then got into car racing (USA PRO Rally), then started racing mountain bikes and road bikes (and also cyclocross) back in '94. Did that for years until I tapered off around 2003. Just rode mountain bikes casually until 2006, then went to watch my little brother race at Dayton Indoor BMX and thought it would be cool to give BMX a try again. And here I am. It hasn't been two years since I got back into it but I think I am more excited about it now and I am one of the few that would like to think I am faster now than I was "back in the day". That's not to say I am all that good now......just faster, LOL.

I remember back when I was 16 or 17 my mother gave me "the talk" about how bikes were a waste of time and I would end up being a bum. To give it up and find a sport that was more for adults. Well, years later I certainly am not good enough to get paid to ride (which we all wished for at the time) but I have been in the bike industry for a long time now and make a decent living at messing around with bikes all day. Being able to race BMX now in my late 30's is a bonus.

Thanks again for all of the great memories,

Jeremy Mudd

ccline how ya been? I remember the GHP you rode, but what was the other bike you raced with their gear on? I am getting some more photos scanned to post so keep an eye out, I am sure you are in quite a few as we raced against each other a lot in our motos not to mention the mains.

I sent out an email to Todd Lyons to drag his butt over here to this forum, so lets see if he comes around.

Steve-I know how you feel about getting beat by Troy. I had the pleasure of racing Troy every year since we where the same age. I remember thinking I was big [I tried to curse] in the state until I went down to Troy's home track and had a plate full of humble pie.

It's funny how a lot us only raced each other at certain times during the year due to overlapping birthdays. It would be great to see everyone line up on the gate in the 35 and over classes from BITD along with the new riders today.

Greg Boring
steve smith
It didnt bother me much at all being beat by troy he was/is a good rider and rode very clean with me -even when he didnt have to.Troy earned his fame like a few of us on here it wasnt given to us o0n a platter .Its tough when another rider in your class gets more coverage/sponsorship/clout just because of who they are .
I teared up the first race i took my boy to,and after his first win in columbus 2 weeks ago too.
Mike and Tommy made me the rider i was ,i wanted to ride just like them.Btw mikey you and tommy are in the memphis dvd joey has and tommy won on sat i think [1 day anyway]

I didnt mind paying i said i would pay big bucks to see it [im REALLY REALLY wanting the 85 memphis that cc has especially if it has my mains cause i raced with brad birdwell and brent romero .
And Galin has the 89 aba grands IM REALLY REALLY wanting that one too even though i got 5th in 17 over x it was on espn i think and ALL the big dogs from bitd were there and still ams such as steve veltman, kenny may,sam arellano, john purse, james prichard, matt hayden, todd lyons, lawan cunningham, bryan ruest, plus countless others.
If anyone has the 89 nbl grands i would do just about anything for a tape of it as well. laugh.gif

Btw if we ever have a ohio old school race i say we get SIT DOWN DONNY FITZWATER to announce!Didnt see that name coming did you!
I think i heard wildmans dad announcing some of the mains on joeys dvd last night .

Just a update on billy norman im not sure if he will check in or not ?
His sons 9 i think and billy takes him to race at dayton indoor often where me and my son race ,His dad got remarried and has kids with new wife, and is building windmills in ny i think,he said his sister and mom was doing well.Hes doing concrete now he said.

On the concrete subject i saw Doug zimmer about 3-4 years ago still skinny and looks same ,said he was doing concrete too and family was doing well i think he said he had a 5 year old or maybe even 2 kids back then?

John johnson from carlisle one of the middletown local riders and fast bitd has a 12 year old son named jarrod .Hes on the verge of a national #1 plate in 12x any year now and rides for excaliber. John still rides from time to time and im trying to get him back on a cruiser to ride with me.

There was some talk on a other 4x4 site i go to about a local riverstar bros and they were doing ok from what i heard [i forget thier name again but they were red headed rich hiesler would be able to tell me]i knew them well just cant remember thier name now both rode cyclecraft frames and clothes but were like co factory or just bought the gear themself.

Id like to say hi to chuck fugate even though i was prolly 15 when he quit i sat at kettering and was friends with him ,and shroyer too.

Bob said last night that the state finals are earned by the rider count ,new riders ,etc but he thought that it probably would be at kettering.I asked him about a old school reunion ,possibly a old school class[you guys would still need a liscense] -but we could run out own moto of us how ever we want.Basically he said the planning would be the worse part- but we could take care of that part our selves.
Any suggustions/ideas/intrest would push this from idea into reality?
This could be a precourser or plans for a 09 national in akron too if they get one.

This could be a precourser or plans for a 09 national in akron too if they get one.

Steve,
AntDog (a member on here from New Jersey) has a full set of great "rules" for a King of Old School Class. If I recall, they are doing it as part of the NJ state series.

Here are the specifics of Ant Dog's KOS series!! I found them on Museum and have posted them on the Ohio NBL site (months ago).
