Full Version: Haro 3 piece cranks

I recently received a left side Haro 180 mm crank arm and was very excited. Until I noticed it was not the same type of spindle mounting. My right side side has a square hole for a typical type of spindle and the left side that I just received has a sorta Redline Flight look about it. I need a left square to match and the spindle with hardware. When I start looking again how should I be more specific so I get the correct one.

Any pics?

Your left side arm must be the pinched version, which came after the square axle version.
1niceharo
that would be the version WITH the chainring attached?
Hudson
I have a drive side arm and a complete BB set with the next to impossible to find haro dustcaps....

chromey
Hey Hudson,
Could you post up a pic of the dust caps?
Are they drastically different than generic ones?

BTW - that non drive nonpinch arm I bought from you is sittin pretty on my 86 sport smile.gif
Thanks again. I just need to find one spindle bolt... doh!

Well I guess thats what I need is a non- drive side non-pinch left arm with the bottom bracket and the spindle and oh ya dust caps that are almost impossible to find. Sounds like I may never get those cranks together.

Patience Grasshopper, do you know how many one-armed Haro cranksets I've seen in the 4 years I've been watching? Probably at least 12 to 15.

Check with StevenBven....I vaguely remember him having a single arm at one point.
DansHaros
He just sold the arm.

OK, i'll keep my chin and hopes up that one day my dreams will come true. As far as the bottom bracket and spindle I was told that its an oversized spindle that was made by another crank company, I think they said Sugino? Does anyone know?

I have seen the Haro Group 1 spindles and bottom brackets made by Suntour and I also remember seeing Sugino made as well.

arent those anlun made cranks still? those caps certainly are!!! only the anlun name has been switched with haro. if i recall the anlun cranks, 40's and group ones took the larger spindle. sugino didint make the group one cranks as far as i remember.
DansHaros
Lee,

I was just referring to the bottom bracket. The cranks are Anlun made
mr coasterbrake
yes, ANLUN made the arms, not sure on the spindle. i've seen them come stock with both suntour and ANLUN labeled bearing sets. spindle is oversized.

I have a survivor set I will send you.Give me a week,

Thank you Sir.

A word of caution. The Anlun-made Haro triangular-shaped arms are a SUPER shady design.

If you look REALLY close at the intersection at the backside of the crank arm near the spindle boss - there is an EXTREMELY high probability there are hairline cracks. I'm sure this contributes to the fact that there are so many orphaned single arms floating around.

My local bike shop was a HUGE Haro dealer BITD and at one point they had about 14 single cranks arms at their shop with cracks - I remember specifically because I bought an 86 Master new from them and sold it to a friend a few months later. When his arm cracked it was at the shop too. I have an old polaroid photo of my standing holding a number plate and the arms are all laid out on the counter behind me - just a coincidence since that was the day the shop owner was showing us the arms and I bought a new plate and they snapped a picture of us.

Anywho, the sets I have took me FOREVER to find without hairline cracks but I've had about 8 or 9 sets in 5 years. All but 4 were cracked in some degree.
mr coasterbrake
true, true.

i can't tell you how many of those we had to warranty.

Mike, I'd love to see that Polaroid pic.
Take a snapshot or scan when you have a chance smile.gif
