We've all seen the bmx racer that sits on the top of bmx trophies since the 70's (god bless 70's bmx), my question is, was that guy on the top of the trophy on the bike molded after some racer? Good question? lets find out.

Not sure. BUT, does anybody besides me have a trophy where teh trophy bike has fenders? My first trophy (1978) does, but my second one a month later had the same guy/bike but the fenders removed.

Hmmm, I don't remember fenders and I started racing in 75. Post it, love to see it.

My bike had fenders

Actually, I spoke to my brother and he said there were some fender bikes on the trophies left in Mom and Dad's attic... Oh the memory.

The first BMX trophies I won the bike had fenders and shocks, ala' Motobike. The pose and rider remained the same after the change. I'm pretty sure the rider is Charly Narly.

Somewhere in the folks attic, 76 trophy the rider is on what looks like a motobike with the shocks, and he is riding pretty level, not doing the wheelie cross up thing the later trophies had on them

I thought those were hood ornaments for '71 Monte Carlos...?
I think I had one that was an odd duck too, but mine are long gone. I'll check pix later.
The rhetorical question that goes with it? Why are all trophy tops always 20 years out of date in design?
Which may be part of the answer as well. If we were getting those trophies in 75-85, they were probably modeled after someone in the early 60's. .... I think snowmobile trophies still have leaf springs and bogie wheels on them... lol ...Football trophy dudes still wear leather helmets, and ......you know what I'm sayin' here! lol.

1980 moto-mouth TT 2nd open. Check out the shocks on the forks. My only survivor I also remember the fenders. I started about 75 also. also

That's the same trophy guy I'm talking about. The first one had fenders on the moto-bike.
And why are the handlebars never lined up with the forks?

Good to see he's international ! I have often wondered about the rider in question.
A great topic. One of the best in ages. I hope we get a good answer if it's possible.

The rider posted with his arm held high looks to me like he's happy he's about to endo over the bars... I can't ever remember being happy about that.

If that is a new or newer bike rider guy above ^, then the bike still screams OS.
I guess trying to date back far enough to come to a conclusion may involve some of the west coasters, since bmx basically originated there. So when was the first year Stu and the boys got a trophy with that rider??? My first trophies (1975) were all "angels" with wings, but I think the following year we started to see the rider. Food for thought...
