Hey there people. I'm DJ and just joined today, I have recently became hooked on bikes again. I raced at Cross Up BMX in Spring, TX during the early to mid 80's, what a great time in life!
I am looking to start building some old school 80's bike to collect and ride, takes up less room than cars!! Hope to meet some old friends and some new ones, this is a rad site! Take care,
DJ

I was from Austin, and I raced at Cross ups BMX all the time in Spring around the early to mid 80's. Also alot of tracks in the Houston Area. Lufkin, Conroe - Armadillo BMX, Friendswood, a track on I10 if I remember right, Brookshire, Brazosport and whole list of other places that I cant think of at the moment. ALOT, ALOT, ALOT of places in Around Texas, I Raced alot in Az, Ok, La, Nm, and Basically all over the US alot of places that currently slip my mind. LOL. I'm surprised Cody Smart hasn't chimed in on this site.

I raced in the Houston area starting in 1983 at age 14. My name is Steve Tyler.Cross Up was a great track. It was what I would call the ultimate 80's style track. Not too drawn out with plenty of good sizes jumps. I remember seeing Monte Gray and Veltman there. That was a big deal for me.Those days were great because ther were so many tracks in the Houston area. Until the late 80's when I had to drive from Katy to Conroe to race.

I dug out some old pics of races at Cross Up the other day, around 82 - 84. I'll be scanning and posting them soon!

welcome to the site DJ, nice to see another Tx. rider here. There will be an old school gathering at DeSoto (Metroplex bmx) at the end of the month. Checkout the link below...
DeSoto show
Big Knobby
I raced there a bunch of times.
I loved that huge (in my memory) step down on the second straight.
I rode for Southwest Supercross that was owned by Leonard Nunez.
I think that he bought Cross Up (or at least all the equipment), because when the USBA went out I remember going with Leonard's son, Chad, to disassemble the bleachers and gate.

I remember Purse, Hoadley, Todd Mitchell and a bunch of other riders from that time.

That was a great track.

What about Super BMX on 1960 with the bridge?

What's up Steve?

DJ,

Did any of you race with my brother, Mike? I remember him mentioning Leonard Nunez from when he was in Houston attending commercial dive school and racing around Conroe and other tracks in the Houston area around 1980 through 1982... he also mentioned that a kid who RODE HIS BMX BIKE ACROSS THE COUNTRY stayed with him for a while back then during one summer... huh.gif

I know that when he came back from Texas, he was a LOT faster... tongue.gif

I am not 100% sure, do you know what school he went to? I will have some pics posted hopefully today, who knows maybe you will see your brother in one!

Armadillo
I used to race at Cross UP from time to time 1982-1983, but I usually raced at Armadillo Downs in Conroe. I sure do miss bmx racing. Mostly just mountain bike now and occasionally ride my GHP crusier on the local hike and bike trail.
