Does anyone have info on the GJS seapost clamp rarity?we are in the process of moving, and I found one at our shop NOS still in the package its chrome with the chrome foil gjs decal. I remember seeing them back in BMXA. looks like hoop with a big ol allen bolt and a beveled washer in it.

Why does rarity matter?

rarity I guess is irrelevant scince its probably gonna end up on evil bay, i stated that in my first post..i want to make sure we dont offer it as a buy it now for $3, I assume after some investigating that is not too common.

rarity is a more than reasonable question - i have a gjs seatclamp (and a whole gjs, for that matter) and would be curious to hear members' comments on the topic.... thanks

Rarity is in the eye of the beholder.Same with value. I mean I know I have paid more than what most would of for some of my bikes and or parts. Just depends on how bad one wants the part, bike, or whatever.
As an example, the Cook Brothers seatpost clamp that sold for more than I think it was $350 or something like that. Wasn't worth more than $75 to me.
Just my .02.

I am sure that seat post clamp would be a prize for someone to own. The difference between GJS and CBR is: There are a lot more CBR bikes/frames being built and were more produced of GJS. Rarity does factor in on "price" but when it is up on eBay you will have to find two people crazy enough to pay a crazy price.

thanks team rob!!!!, as i guess that answer the question as far as rairity goes.. in my book its the only one i have ever seen in my years.

Robert,
since you have the clamp, and if you are into older bikes, hang on to it and look for the frameset for it. They do pop up on ebay on occasion. They maybe pricey though.
Oh yeah, welcome to the board.

It would be rare if the clamp actually held a seat post in place. Neat piece but not a great design, Jeff has commented on this in the past. I certainly wouldn't build a bike around the clamp. They are a great conversation piece to pass around at a gathering.

BTW I knew of a couple of those clamps that sold for about $100 each a few years ago. Results may vary.

I'd like to see a pic of one.

thanks all! i guess it will get added to pile..

I built a bike as a gift for my nephew years ago. Its a Redline MX2 with a GJS fork. Its been passed down to a younger nephew since. The frame and fork are both in nice shape. What is the value of peices like that? He may want to sell them and get a newer race bike.

Yes they are rare and don't pop up vert often especially in the bag and they do pull a pretty penny on ebay. Like Raybeard pointed out, they are not very dependable but are great on a show bike that does not get ridden. as for the MX-II with the GJS forks, those forks bring top dollar on ebay, the frame not as much because their production numbers are much higher. If you sell them, seperate them into different auctions. Hope this helps.

bla bla bla....It is rare. It is valuable. Sell it for no less than twice what Ray mentioned.

*never use "but it now" unless you know.

One on eBay today for $100 on buy it now. Been up for a couple days, so, $100 seems a little high for today's market.
MarkMc
Not long after I posted about it, the clamp was snapped up. So, $100 is apparently fair market value!
