Dennis,
Well, next time you're talking to him, slip in that a 41 year old ex bmx racer down here in little ol' New Zealand still remembers his name, and photos in the magazines. I still clearly remember him duking it out with the Avalanche, and I do recall he was a very consistent racer.
Kind of ironic, I started my career as a machinist, doing a fitting/turning apprenticeship, and I now am programming supervisor one of one of the largest Waterjet Propulsion companies in the world, based here in Christchurch, New Zealand.
I know all about CAD/CAM (I am also a part time support rep for the software I used, and I do a bit of freelance programming).
I always like hearing where some of these great racers have ended up. He certainly sounds like he is doing well. You should try and get him on here sometime.
Thanks for the info!
Cheers,
Mike

Jon is a very reserved person, especially when it comes to his BMX history. I have basically known him since he was 9, but we also lived 465 miles apart. I dated and married his sister, I did not keep tabs on his career.
I don't know the specifics of his team history. I do know he spent a lot of years on Redline and then a year or so on CW at the end of his racing career. My wife thinks it was probably 88 at the latest.
I have talked to him on multiple occasions about his racing days. His answers are usually short and sweet. It was something he did back then and he has moved on. The one thing he told me that blows me away is that one year at the ABA Grands he quadrupled, won 4 mains!
Anyway, he now lives in Southern California and works as a machinest at a shop that builds drag racing brake and suspension components. He is trained in CadCam and he does design and prototyping. He is very talented but also very humble. He still races his R/C trucks and he golfs.
That's about it. He has grown up well and is definitely an asset to society. Whenever I need help on a project I am working on at home, he is always willing to help out.
