Full Version: Will I regret selling my Trick Star?

Looking for some advice. I have been thinking of selling one of my Trick Star frames to raise some extra loot since money is tight. I originally had 3 back in the 80's. The first one I bought was a white one my cousin bought new in 85. I got it from him the following year and rode the [I tried to curse] out of it until the tob tube cracked around '90. I had purchased back then a new sticker kit for it so I could refinish it but I broke it before I got around to it.

My second Hutch was my favorite, '86 in candy apple blue. I got this one from my cousin also. I think I bought it in '87. I can't remember the reason why but I sold it to a very good friend. Stupid.

I also have an '87 in chrome. I think I bought the chrome because I figured the finish would hold up the best while riding. Probably why I sold the blue one (I also had 3 at the time). This one I still have with the fork.

I have little/no intentions of riding either one. I do know they were an important part of my teen age years so at a bare minimum I will keep the white '85. I figure when I have the extra cash I will get the top tube welded, get it refinished and put on the new sticker kit I have had sitting around for the last 20 years. I won't ride it but will hang it on one of the walls in my house as my my kind of art.

If I keep the '87 chrome frame I would need to have it rechromed as it is peeling around the BB shell and top of the seat tube. I do have the matching fork and since this one is structually perfect this one could one day be a rider. Not likely I would but it could be.

So I have been thinking about selling the '87 because I think it might get me the most money since I also have the fork and have the least sentimental attachment out of the 3 Trick Stars I have owned.

Will I regret selling off the '87 or should I hold on to it longer?

No. Sell it now while the feeding frenzy is on.

Feeding frenzy? I know there is demand for old school BMX but can you elaborate? I have not been paying attention to the market.

Sell it - Money is to pay bills and live. You can always replace items, you will always have memories. If money is that tight, there should not be any question.

The New Sticker kit could go as high as 500. Maybe just sell that first, if all sealed and still original!

This time of year... tax return season is the time to sell before interest drops off in winter projects.

Now does seem to be the time.. I've been selling alot of my stuff lately.. I dont' think i'll ever miss any of it. I just don't have the space, and I need the money.. Just take a picture of it before you sell it.. That's all you need..

If I decide to sell off the '87 frame and fork, how do I determine where to price it at? Or do I put it up on eBay?

ebay, but make sure your account has lots of good feedback for top dollar. And take TONS of pictures. I usually put a link to photobucket with tons of pics.

Pics sell stuff.

I've sold tons of my old stuff. Its all hobby money in my mind.
