So I lisited my Skyway on ebay and I thought I was getting $1,300 until I was notified that the winning bidders account was hacked. So now I have decided to restore my Skyway ta, and im gona go full out. I am posting this thread because I want to know if the early TA's came in white. Mine is chrome. My bike was the 87th one built and is chrome and I want to get it powdered white. So was there white Japanse TA's made or where they all chrome.

is it actually in need of being painted ? or is it a decent/presentable survivor ? to powdercoat you will have to mar the surface for the application to properly adhere ... once you do that there is no going back

survivor may not "show" as pretty - but should you decide to sell one day redone bikes are pretty questionable these days as so many people redo because of issues they don't always disclose and redone framesets haven't been doing as well

not for nothing - i would not redo something if its not really needed

Well the bike is in OK condition . The chrome has some sections where it is flakeing but its not that bad. I really dont care if i buy a bike that has been redone, I would rather have a restored bike that looks new then have an orignal one with scratches and rust.

ya I guess your right. The thing is Im only 15 and I just finished my first resrtration. Its a hutch windstyler and I completly built the thing from the ground up. Like I said before I am a perfectionest so when it comes to me and bikes the things have to be perfect. I got the skyway off my brother last year and I got some other oldstuff from around town. I want to post some pics of my stuff but I dont know how to make the files smaller so I can post them so could you post me the instructions so i can show off my bikes.

Sorry this is not correct. If the chrome is in good condition you powder straight over top. If the chrome is pitted or badly scratched you will need to get the chrome removed to powder coat. If you powder over bad chrome it can cause the chrome to kind of flake and it becomes like razors.

Thanks

Windstyler, you are only 15???

Nice to see a new generation of old school enthusiasts starting. Any other youngsters out there?

15? Damn.

I'm 37 and don't have a Skyway.

I feel like an underachiever bigtime now. sad.gif

you powder straight over chrome without prep you'll be having some serious chip issues and its gonna be so thick you ain't gonna get a seatclamp on that bad boy

Re-list the TA and sell it to someone who will appreciate it as it is.
windstyler88
Well I tink I have made up my mind to just keep it as it is. The only thing I am going to change on it is the seat(my brother put a new school one on it), grips(new school), and I want to put a set of black tuffs on it and sell the proclass rims with the superlace hubs on ebay!
