This is my 79 pk ripper, no serial #, Brian if you are reading this, this is the bike I thought had the foil type stickers, the pic shows the down tube sticker which is baby blue with brown background. The seat tube sticker has the same type backing as the down tube sticker. They look foilish to me but I could be wrong. Any help from anyone would be great. What is going on with my head tube sticker, is that a home made job or what. It looks like it was a reverse peel sticker, if this is incorrect could someone tell me what the correct decal should look like. I have one but can't post the pic because I am out of space on here, can I reduce these somehow and post them, I have a mac book pro but don't know how to do it on here. Thanks, you guys rip.

The downtube decal is the original decal. It is a clear backed decal, not foil. You are seeing the ball burnished frame through the clear backing. The headtube decal is definately not original. The original was NOT a diecut decal. It was a light blue backed decal with brown lettering. I'll find a pic. The seat tube decal would have been brown foil with chrome letters or clear backed with blue writing.

As for the hoops. They went to the bike shop this morning with a set of black hubs. They'll look great!

That is only going to save space on your local hard drive. You need a photo editor like photoshop, paint shop pro or even paint. Reduce the size of the image (scale image in paint) and save as .jpg. With photoshop or paintshop pro you can save w/ lower quality which in turn reduces file size. Set your camera to take large pictures, then reduce w/ an editor. That way the editor has all the data to work with and smaller images will come out looking nice, with smaller file sizes.

Race Inc. dropouts!!! I never saw a pk with them. Very kool.

HOLY COW!! I completely missed the FMF dropouts. This is an ULTRA rare frame. I've seen one ad and one pic other than this. Keep this thing forever. If not........................ I WANT IT.

This was when SE was still "prototyping" the PK. Had no serial number and used Race Inc (FMF) dropouts, as Race Inc was building these frames anyway at the time. W O W !!

I will also add a big WOW on the dropouts. A rare one for sure.

Nice bike!
Curt
Another wow on the padset.

And Brian, I might respectfully disagree on the headtube decal. I seem to recall that decal on Derek Bowers burnished PK in 79. It also may make sense given the many (if not all) original parts.

Interesting and very nice in any event.
BRIAN HAYS
Curt, I thought about that after I saw the dropouts but failed to add a revised opinion on it.

I would definately keep this frame ALL original. Worn ORIGINAL decals are MUCH cooler than replacement decals.

I just sold a set of those pads. Dumb mistake.

Keep it all original !!! Its perfect as it is.

Intersting info on the FMF dropouts. I've learned so much about SE's lately.

Well, no, not really. The prototype to the PK was the JU-6 even though it wasn't meant to be...and even those didn't have the diamond-drop FMF style dropouts. DO I think the frame it is a 1979 frame, heck yeah!! The first bmx plus test of the pk rippeer in late 1979 featured a bike with the same dropouts, yet no ad or other magazine pic have I have seen have the same dropouts on a PK. Like Brian said, Race inc/Bill Bastian was making the frames at the time, so they could have used the older pointy dropouts in a pinch if they ran out or wanted to use up remaining left over dropouts, etc.

I have a frame just like it, ultra rare indeed. Yours is the only other I have seen outside of mine and the bmx plus test. ALso, look at the shadowing on the decals, heavy on the brown shadowing, VERY early and original. PLease leave the frame alone and as is!!!

sorry, double post.

Sweet! Thanks for sharing, it would also be great to see it out in the sun!
SE Mark
Wow another Bill Bastian PK/Race Inc. I would just like to add my 2 cents. This would fall under the rare and obscure PK's , Why did Bill make this? Like Alex said at some times in a pinch they used parts they had to complete orders. I agree with Brian about the decals all except headtube . Some of the 79 PK's had the same headtube decal as yours,so I believe it is the orginal decal. I also say keep it as is. Just My 2 cents!
BRIAN HAYS
Alex and Mark, notice that I did correct myself on the headtube decal after Curt commented. Sorry smile.gif

Also, when I said prototype, I more meant that the PK's were going through the new frame changes. Some (very few) with FMF dropouts and some with round top tubes. Prototype wasn't the right word but you get the point.

Very good to see both SE Mark and PK Ripped here. Have missed them both alot over the last few months.

These two guys are responsible for all I know about SE. Thanks boys. biggrin.gif

WOW!!!!! Thanks Brian, SE Mark, PK Ripped, Curt you guys really now your stuff, I thought it was a cool 79 ball burnished bike but I had no idea about the diamond dropouts, I thought all pk's were like that. I am just going to hand polish the frame and that's it. I will bring it to rockford hopefully some of you guys will check it out.

Thanks Jesee
Curt
I might be taking your "hand polish" statement too literally. But in case you were thinking of polishing the frame (mirror like) it would be out of character with an original ball burnished finish.

However if you like it polished and you want to upset some at this site, polish away. It would not be the first PK to have been highly polished.

If, on the other hand, you want to maintain its original status (which is my vote) clean it with a mild detergent, warm water, soft sponge (no brillos) and call it a day.

Thanks curt I will take your advice.

Ya, what Curt said. PK's were ball burnished, NOT polished. Just wash it up and call it good.
