So, i am working on an 87 pro compe. When i got this F/F i was so pumped to finally get one that i snapped only a few shots of it before it went to the powder coater. Now, i cant find these decals ANYWHERE. Rcrscott29 told me that he would need some scans or something better than this picture to repop it. Can anybody help with this. Does anyone have this set? I am thinking that the 87 Compe is almost identical, just the PRO in front of it. I am sure that others need this set too.

This might be a good time to do another decal want and need thread too.

I've got an 87 D-Tour set, but I guess that doesn't help you out much.
87 Dyno decal sets are pretty much impossible to find. I'm surprised nobody has made reproductions yet.

AJK has them "in the works". He wouldn't give a time frame when they would be ready though.

those bikes are from an era where GT was VERY tight with decal sets of any kind.
our rep said they were having a problem with knock-off stuff in Mexico and pretty much cut off the supply of decals for several years. some of you may remember the grips that looked like O-wings with a GT logo that pop up on eBay occasionally. those were part of that same problem.

Ok so I feel really bad about this because I had a set...needed cash and let them go (ebayed actually) to somebody who I thought would repop them because all the leads I tried shot me down. Either the graphic was too much work or the price for me was too high. I do still have the hi-res pdf scan of them.

87pc, If you have the scan of this set, I WILL PAY TO HAVE THEM REPRODUCED. I just need that scan and there will be plenty to dish out. I will have different colors made so that everyone that needs a set can choose what they want.
Seriously bro, shoot me that scan and we can get this started.

I wanted to make sure I let everyone know that I did get the scans from caezer and I started working on the artwork today.
But I want everyone to know that these will easily be the toughest and most time consuming decals I have ever done. The artwork is very detailed with alot of small things that need to be redrawn by hand. Most of you probably don't realize that all the decals I've made are completely redrawn by hand on the computer before they ever get to the printing stage. The scans I get from you guys are used just as templates to get the proportions right.
So those of you that know these decals also then know how detailed they are.
Anyway, I just wnated to let everyone know that I am working ont hem but I'm asking that you please be patient because it's going to take a little time to get these right.
Also does anyone have a good, hopefully close up, magazine picture of one of these bikes so I can get a good look at the colors on the decals? The scans I have are really good quality but the colors look a little washed out so I want to see if they were originally any brighter.
I'll let everyone know once I have these ready to print.
Thanks

RcrScott, I'm a designer / self proclaimed Illustrator guru....
I totally understand the HUGE amount of work that goes into these decals.... the scans can't be reproduced until each layer of atrwork is recreated.
plus the color matching can be really tough - especially from photos.. If I can find someone local with an 87 Dyno - I'll try to get a Pantone Match for you. The Light blue is very Pastel looking.. lot's of white in the opaque blue ink.
(ps.. any lucs finding that Bravo Pro decal?

- no luck on my end)

haha,, yeah . it IS funny... and does add a bit of character to the otherwise very clean bike.
It was just a gut reaction.. but i have plenty of stuff like that on my builds.
It feels nice sometimes to be only ONE step away from perfection... but stay there.

Hey guys, I am a graphic designer in Houston, and just so happened to have been co-sponsored by Dyno in the mid-80s. I have an original set of 87 Pro Compe decals, and yes, I re-created the artwork for both the 87 Pro Compe and the 87 D-Tour in Adobe Illustrator last summer.
I have had a problem finding someone who can reproduce these correctly. For those in the know, I tried having them printed with a Gerber Edge, but the Gerber blue doesn't match the 87 decal blue. That led me to trying to find someone who can print these affordably with silk screen, key word, affordably.
So yes, I have the artwork created, and I don't mean to be stingy, it took me A LONG TIME to create these, so I don't want to just hand them over. If anyone out there has a source for an affordable silk screen printer, I'm all ears.
I got a bunch of people excited about these last year, and due to my inability to find a good printer, the decals have been on hold. For those who were wanting them, I apologize for not yet having these produced.
I'm open to suggestions...
Here are the links to JPEGs of my artwork, so you know I'm tellin ya's the truth:

Mstencel...
would you be willing to work together with scott on this project.

And he obviously has superb printing resources....
It would be awesome to have some team work on this project - and a good combination of different perspectives about the printing process.

I did talk to YET ANOTHER local printer yesterday. (Never thought I'd have this much difficulty getting these done.) He's going to run a sample for me, so I can see the quality. Said it would take about a week. If I'm happy with how they look, I will move forward getting a batch printed asap.
Bottom line as to why this has been an issue, is the decals need to be printed (in my prof. opinion - been doing graphics for 15 years) with spot (solid) color, not with a dot pattern. (I'm simplifying the printer speak). So, without getting into too much detail, I would rather wait and get these right, rather than crank them out the easiest/cheapest way possible and have them look like cr@p...
Like I said, I'm open to suggestions as well, so Scott, if you do have any suggestions, let me know.

Feb 14 2008, 08:04 PM
Hey Michael,
You're 100% right on that they should be done with solid spot colors. They might look good from a distance with a dot pattern, but thats still not what anyone wants.
Well here's the deal everyone.........
Michael mentioned that he wanted to print them on a Gerber Edge and that the colors were a problem..... well a Gerber Edge is exactly what I use and the colors are what I am worried about as well. I have a couple of colors that are close but I have a feeling they are going to be much brighter than the originals.
I would like to be able to run a sample without having to draw all of this first but it would be too hard to tell without it being in actuall artwork form. if you know what I mean.
Bottom line is, if Michael is getting samples run right now from an actual screen printer, than I am going to stop where I'm at for now until we see how his source works out. theres no point in me spending that much time drawing it up if Michael is potentially that close to having them done.
Michael..... I'm send you a PM so I can ask you something about your artwork.

http://michaelstencel.com/PCDECALS.jpghttp://michaelstencel.com/DTOURDECALS.jpgyou can reproduce that blue by using the CYAN color foil on white vinyl. A second color would be olympic blue and thats not too far off at all. For how much people want these the blue being a shade off is nothing. Now lets talk diamond back hot streak decal sets shall we?

no comment
now that i think about it. if you fill that area with a sky blue or a color that matches and do that color in 4 color process you should get the exact shade of blue
and another idea. of course spot colors are best they are just that spot colors, solid, no pixelating but....if you adjust the DPI correctly lets say for that area 75 then the dots would be so close and small that you would really not notice them unless under magnifcation, kinda like a comic in the newspaper.

I just garbage picked an 87 Dyno Compe. It has the same decals as the Pro Compe, just no pro, was the frame and fork the same? It's not in bad shape but has some other decals over parts of the original that a kid must have put on from his trips to walmart. Anyway, I'd be interested in a set if they are out there, or if the frame was the same as the Pro Compe, I'll build that out of it. Hit me up if you new sets are available.

I am SOOOO ready for some 87 PC Team Decals!!! ASAP.
BTW, I have an 87 Dyno Compe and Detour with decals intact...
If no one's already done the design work that will eventually become Real Stickers.. i will get started on the re-creating. ( Work in Adobe illustrator for a living.. so i have the chops and an eye for detail)...
I just have no way to get these printed. and I didn't want to do the work if these decals are already going to happen.
If someone can print these, i will sacrifice one of my decaled bikes and get started on the Vector art .... If we can work something out.

stuntrider, those are from an 88. Lets keep this at the top. My 87 is a late dated one. I just contacted Scott J. about doing some 88 PC decals for me. So, ya thats what i will do for now. I can always remove them for the 87's. I will PM Michael right now and see whats going on with them.
