wow, what a cool site! I just found it tonight. My name is Bob Howard. I doubt if ya'll remember me, but I sure recognize alot of the names that have popped up in this thread. I raced early 80's in Casa Grande mostly. I rode for ....don't laugh, "Jills Chevron" (gas station) and later Moore & Moore cycle. It wasn't all that cool to ride for a gas station, but sometimes Jill would buy us beer if we won : ) Made it up to Chandler for a couple winter nationals and over to fountain hills a few times. I remember a track way up in north Phx (Deer valley I think) and somebody tipped the port-a-john over with some lady in it. I've often wondered what happened to some of the Casa Grande crew. The Moore brothers (Roger and Derek), Lara Brothers(Mike and Raymond), Chet Ross, Jeff Harrington, Debbie and Digger Kalsow, Kelly Ratliff, Doug Hall, Jason Wharton........... Remember any of those guys?
Funny someone would mention the canal across the Street form the Chandler track. I was just tellin my boys about that this weekend. Alot of bruises and road rash came out of that. Good Times........

Yep I raced it, and I knew all those guys. Ed "Bigfoot", I wish I could remember his last name. Pasquilly, it was pronounced Pass-qual-ee. He and his older Brothers Raced MX at the Beeline MX park as well as ADRA out in Buckeye. That's were I met them. Me and the Clucas brothers raced MX against them, as well as Chappy Mike, Bill Blose, and the nut cases from County Cycle. We were getting support from Southwest Yamaha on 55th ave & Grand. That's kinda how Jeff Clucas and I happened to be in the State Fair Race. We rode two Yamaha Motobikes to show-off and generate sales of them for Southwest Yamaha.
Hey Cheez, I use to race at the Union hills raceway in 75-76 and remeber all the guy's you are talking about, I have been out of the loop. I remember Meat webster ( bought a Stroker II from him ) and still have it. I raced against the Battle bro's, Stu Ulrich, I rode one of the first mongoose motomag bike's to come to Phoenix around early 75 my number was 440. I finished 2nd in the state fair race in 76 The guy that one my class was Jon Donalson Man he was fast, I could bairly keep up with him. Lots of good memories from those days. Was you or anyone there the day Gaylon Moiser from team Maico came and rode his 440 around the track and gave out stickers That was cool. We moved to Oklahoma in 1978 and I went into Motocross and raced the nationals for the several years, Traveled alot with Guy Cooper. I remember Chappy Blose very well and went to school with the Imbrielly Bro's Pat,John. I also remember A guy there in phoenix with the last name of Crawford that rode a maico That was a rocket. Good Memories!!!!!!!!!

The Crawford you are talking about was Dave Crawford one of the nuts from county cycle that rode a Maico 440. He was mx's answer to BMX's Dennis Dain. He had long red hair that flowed out from under his helmet, never saw him in pony tail tho. Tom Catchings is around here, his handle is PHXOS. I remember the Embrialli's too (I think that's how it spelled). Welcome, this is great place to hang out.

So what's the deal with the bike place in Rye? I saw the comments in the first post, so I figured I'd ask. A few co-workers of mine have been there and said the guy is pretty weird and almost reluctant to sell anything - either his prices are insane, or just simply doesn't answer the question! Are there any good bikes left?

There are a crap load of good (grail) bikes hanging in the rafters of that thing I guess might pass as a barn. If you find anything that is worth anything (he knows) he will just say "that's not for sale" and hang it in the rafters. If he does sell anything plan on paying 2 to 3 times the retail price of it, if he will sell it. There are RL Square backs, prolines, Cooks Bros, R&R, Dan Gurney, Weinert, you name it's hanging in there. Most are completes, it is sickening. Some day that dude is gonna croak and I would expect his kids to sell sell sell. Too bad I probably won't know when that day is until all the stuff is gone.

Wow, It seems as thought this thread is all but dead. The thread is a bit confusing. Is the focus of the thread "Galen Starlin" or is it AZ racing? If it is AZ racing, I have very little to add, as I was there, raced, but did not do too much. If it is Galen, then I need to go scan the photos from the High School yearbook in and post them.

and giant pump house, half burried tires, grass infield and track ET records. Tucson BMX both Randolph(Reid)
Park-flattrack and downhill. Caliche' Park, Foothills BMX, Pantano Park, Old Manzanita. I know this is mainly
a Phx. thread so how about teams: Green Machine as posted earlier, Pedal World, Harbour Bikes, Landis
Schwinn, Az Huslters(school bus??) Riders, C."Meat"Webster,T.Bell,K. Flemming,J.Gersten,A.Schott,D.Castillo,
Tucsons own legend G."Doozer"Trevino. Well, time to into the garage and sit on my Rebel 24" and spin
my Hutch beartrap into my chin before I turn in, hopefully it will knock loose some more memories so
I can post some stories if anyone cares to read.

I remember hearing about that, wasn't that due to a Kastan Uniblade fork?
That was Mike Hawbaker into the first turn at Black Mountain. I dated his sister back in my BMX days (1994-1995ish). They sued Kastan although I never found out what the settlement was. He was in coma for a week or so I believe but he was fine by the time I met him.
Lot of names in here that were still living on into the mid 90's. I was out at the Chandler track last night jumping the bonzai after a 10 year haitus. I'm working on a "reunion tour" to bring everyone back to the track by renting it out for a few hours sometime in the Fall. It would be cool to get anyone interested involved.
I've been at both tracks weekly as my son races now, so if anyone wants pics, just let me know.
